Thanks, Suz, and thanks about the delicate bone structure comment. Actually I have a thick bone structure so it's really nice to see what you said.
I am 5'5" and I have a long torso, it looks shorter than it is with the high waisted fit and flare dress but any average jacket that is not too long will look cropped or slightly so on me.
As a matter of fact, right now I am washing a denim crop jacket that I remembered that my mom had saved from when I was a teenager/young adult. The best thing is that it still fits but I need to see how it works with the dresses.
I am ordering the white Kut and the Mavi just to be on the safe side because the wedding is coming up soon.
The dress code for the wedding is casual. The bride says on her website that she "will be wearing a clean T shirt" so I need to make my dress a little more casual. I was hoping for wearing the black lace one but Angie discouraged that and I think she was right.
Thanks for commenting on PJL/proper jacket length. I need to check the link that you provided and also check the Old Navy jackets.

Joyce, first of all, the sandals are super fab! Great purchase.

Second, I love that first sheath on you -- so very pretty. And the fit and flare also looks lovely. Both are feminine and fresh options, very ladylike without being precious, and they show off your delicate bone structure to perfection.

I think you need a more cropped jacket. The lace moto can work (and is nice for the added dressy factor). But if you want a different jacket or a jean jacket to dress them down later, you need a shorter version.

Can you please remind me how tall you are and whether you are short waisted? I ask because at 5'4, I had GREAT luck finding a white jean jacket at Old Navy in the KIDS section. Very inexpensive and works great as an over-a-dress topper.

I wouldn't wear a jean jacket to the wedding or the grad, but it might be nice to have to dress down the dresses for other occasions this summer.

The proper length for a jacket with a dress varies depending on the wearer's height and proportions, the shape of the dress, the cut of the jacket, and the effect you are after. Angie has a few blog posts about this somewhere in the archives.

Denim jackets tend to be quite boxy and in any case the fabric is stiff. So cropped is better with a dress. You could wear a linen jacket to your high hip, I think.

Thanks, Cheryl! I think we cross-posted.
Agree, the choice of a jacket for the fit and flare can be tricky because it's easy to go frumpy with that one.
My linen jacket falls in the upper hip. I hope that works.

Thanks Firecracker, Cocolion, Summer and Jessica!
Firecracker, thank you so much for all the links, you made my life easier and I will order some today.
What is the proper length of a jacket to go over a dress? It sounds like denim has to be waist length but other jackets can go to the upper hip, upper half or upper third of the hip? I suppose it varies if it's a fit and flare or a sheath dress but my main question is about the fit and flare because that can easily go frumpy.
The linen jacket is the Olivia Moon from last year in purple phlox which is a dark magenta-like tone and it falls below the waist at the upper hip.
I will post a picture in a separate post but probably after next week.
Cocolion, you almost enabled me with the lace dress but unfortunately it's going back today.

Joyce, I can understand your reluctance to send the lace dress back, it's just gorgeous. Still, it's best to be practical about wearing opportunities.

All the other dresses are lovely on you, but I really like the sheath dress, which will look great with either the lace jacket or a denim one.

For the graduation, the fit and flare is a perfect choice, for the reason you have given, and your gold sandals are beautiful for both occasions. You've done really well putting these outfits together, and can enjoy both events knowing that you look your best. Have fun!

Oh no, I love the fantasy frock so much on you! Can't you wear it to the wedding? (Looking for reason to keep...)

I think both of the sheath dresses look stunning on you, you can't go wrong. The denim jacket as a topper for the wedding makes the dresses more casual of course, and as long as that's the intent then go for it!

And as for the graduation I love your plan of picking a dress that enables easy, worry-free picture taking! You've got your priorities straight I think.

I looked through Angie's top picks and didn't find any jean jackets that are still available. I collected a few jackets here to give you some ideas.
The first one, by Mavi, looks promising to me, because it has a classic, relatively unadorned look in a fairly uniform color, which makes it easy to wear with lots of things. The next two (Kut from the Kloth) I picked for the same reasons, plus Angie had a Kut denim jacket in her top picks--not this style, as the one she picked is no longer available, but it looked awfully similar. And the last three I added, because they are also available in petites, which might help you get it short enough to go nicely with dresses.

Joyce, I'm wowed by the first sheath on you, and also by the last dress. Very different looks, but both are equally gorgeous on you. The middle dress is also very pretty, and if I weren't looking at it in comparison with the other two, I'd be saying keep it for sure, too. Maybe you need it as well?
I also like Angie's idea of the lace moto with the dresses, and a shorter jean jacket. Perhaps a white one?
What does your linen jacket look like? Is it short enough to go over the last dress?

Angie, which is the new short denim jacket? Do you think I should buy another one?
I don't know about the denim jacket for graduation. I would like to look more formal, either with a linen jacket or a shortish light weight jacket. Whatever I will wear will be in the pictures so I think more formal is better.
I don't think I can link from my phone and/or I don't know how to do it. I think there is an applet that needs to be downloaded but it does not work on the phone.
These are the shoes: Paul Green Coco

Thanks, Angie and Tanya!
Angie, the shoes are the Paul Green Coco leather ankle strap. They look nice for different occasions and don't kill your feet. I have no patience for uncomfortable shoes these days. The only bad thing is their price.
Tanya, I think I am leaning toward what you and Angie suggested.
I am sad to return the lace dress but if I keep it, it will just sit in my closet.

Dear Fabbers,
This is my take on the challenge which for me is about the upcoming casual wedding that I had mentioned to you before.
First is my fantasy dress that I would love to keep but have no wear for it at present so, sadly, it is going back.
I cannot say the same about my gold colored PG sandals, they are super comfy and can be worn with many different outfits so those are staying.
The next dresses are my probable reality for the occasion. I love all of them, particularly the sheath but that may need a little fussing in the belly area.
I tried the reality dresses with my jean jackets and at the end I thought of adding my lace moto from last year which I think is what I will wear over the dress that I choose.
I am also thinking of which dress to wear for my son's graduation in sunny and beautiful West Coast. So far the fit and flare is winning for that because in that dress I will be able to quickly climb on my chair to take pictures of my dear son when he walks down the graduation aisle and I will have no worries about anything showing.
Of course for graduation I will top my dress with a linen jacket, not shown here.
Please give me your opinions on what to wear for the wedding and for the graduation. Which do you prefer?
If you think something looks bad please say so, too.
Thank you for your opinions.
