Angie, you wear your sour brights with the same ease I wear navy!

Definitely my slightly deeper cool reds and wines are personal essentials ... Will be looking for a couple tops in the shade for fall

I have found this topic really interesting because I don't think about colour much at all once I am wearing my clothes, yet I often wear colourful clothes and have people comment on them. Pink, lilac, turquoise, teal, red, blue and orange feature prominently in my wardrobe and I am more comfortable in those than many neutrals, even if I am the only person in the room wearing these colours.

Like Shevia, I like my clothing to be forgettable to me once it is on. I place great store in my clothing being comfortable and will not suffer discomfort for fashion.

I never dress to be forgotten but I try to dress to forget. So for me that means I need to dress in colors that are psychologically comfortable to me…navy, olive, white, black.

The forgettable factor in my wardrobe is more about the style of the item than the color. I'm most at ease in olive, navy, all shades of grey, brown, cream, white, and pretty much any shade of clear blue as long as it's not light. Intense blues are completely comfortable for me as I feel they improve any environment!

Strangely, no color makes me feel more conspicuous than black

I don't know if I every totally forget what color I'm wearing. I picked the color because I liked it, so I like to look at it while I'm wearing it.

Maybe when I was working I'd forget what I was wearing - for work I did have more conservative colors - greys, blacks, navy.

In my wardrobe, the most versatile, easy-on-the-eyes colours are probably charcoal and heathered blue. Navy, asphalt and black are all pretty good too, but something about heathered/marled colours feels the most harmonious with my colouring.

Ha The Cat yes ... it's that tightrope of wanting to be able to forget your outfit without blending into the wall. Your palette is similar to mine!

LAileen love those quiet colours.

Brooklyn, this make total sense to me ... I don't worry much about the silouettes, etc. at all if the colour is right-for-me. Your palette is stunning and suits you perfectly.

suntiger, brights have their place haha!!

slimcat, beautiful!

Joy, a good fit definitely helps with a fantastic forgettable outfit.

Sal, that makes sense to me ... you are able to wear many colours with confidence, but I can see that if the 'ease' aspect of your awesome style was removed, it wouldn't be right for you.

nemosmom, this makes total sense to me ... similar to your bright earth tones, I love love love bright colours, especially paired with white or something for dramatic contrast ... visually ... but I feel way too loud in them. Another person might wear that with ease (Angie!) and I need to be better and enjoying them on others rather than trying to make them work for me (every rule having exceptions, of course!). I bet you would look spectacular in brighter earth tones, but if you don't feel good then what's the point?

Jenn, yep, me too. I'm a chorus member, not a star, and that is just fine with me :D

cat2, that's an interesting point ... I would say when I go into the city, I would blend in best in black, gray or beige too, whereas in the suburbs where I am ... well frankly it's still a lot of black, but quiet colours blend just fine. BUT in my case, I would be okay 'standing out' in my merlot or teal in the city, because they don't make me feel emotionally self-conscious ... not the same though if I wore a really bold or really pretty-candy type of colour, I'd say.

rachy lol!! And do you correct them or roll with it?!?!? :D

It's very seldom that I dress in order to be forgettable--but I understand what you mean. In cases where I want to go rather unnoticed, but still look good, I would--based on my colouring--choose to wear simple outfits in colours like grey, cool brown, navy, denim blue, teal and deep green.

I definitely feel uncomfortable and self conscious in bright and bold colours or in high contrast (with the exception of black and white combinations). But I don’t feel self conscious in a bold, dramatic pattern, as long as the colours are right for me (dark and muted, not bright). Or in a bold, dramatic cut eg an asymmetric skirt. I don’t understand why this is so, but it is!

Fit is different though- if a skirt feels too short, or a top rides up all day, or feels too boxy, I feel off. Definitely tailored fits are where I feel most confident.

Hi all,

With Angie's post in combination with all the awesome colours and neutrals threads happening, I got to thinking about what colours are fantastically forgettable for me ... i.e. they make me happy and look good to my eye when I put them on, AND I then can go about my day without giving them a second thought.

For me, these colours tend to be those that are a little deeper, a little cooler, a little softer ... navy and mid to deep blues, deeper reds, deeper greens, teal, as well as neutrals like black that's not too aggressive, blush, cool beige, and some grays and whites.

While I enjoy bold colour at times, it is definitely NOT forgettable for me - I am very conscious that I am wearing it, especially if I'm with people all in neutrals, let's say ...whereas I could walk into a room for of black dresses in merlot red and feel fine.

Do you have fantastic forgettable colours, or do you rather your colours to be unforgettable?!

(ps - my Dad just came for our weekly lunch so sorry I'm posting and dashing) x
