I bought almost exclusively core neutrals last year, and plan to do so again this year. Will I get bored? I’m not worried about it. Like you say, the truly fun pieces will jump out at you. You can’t force fun! And it is fun having a cohesive, functional wardrobe that doesn’t cause anxiety. </p> <p>My forehead slap last year was ending up with a bunch of new pants early in 2021 that all ended up being too big within a few months of purchase. A combination of factors — new-to-me silhouettes, fabrics that relaxed more than I expected, retail size inflation, weight loss/change in body comp — have led to a stack of pants I’m not sure what to do with. They make very comfy lounging-around-the-house clothes, but are just a bit too sloppy for me to feel good wearing out and about. I course-corrected and bought several sized-down pants and jeans in the fall, so now I feel like I bought a truly ridiculous number of bottoms in 2021, and I’m only wearing half of them. But it’s awful on I look shapeless in it. Both these were online purchases and I should have learnt from the first one that this type of casual dress doesn’t suit me.
