Wish to add: a company that is purposely scamming you should know that some customers do catch on to lies and are likely to spread the word. And companies who've made an honest mistake will welcome the opportunity to remedy the issue.

I would definitely let the company know. I bought a purse, once, that was described as leather trim but when I received it, it was certainly not leather. The website representative apologized profusely, offered full refund (I loved the purse so kept it, but wanted to them to know and change the label to reflect the truth) and gave me a coupon towards a future purchase. That satisfied me.

This has happened to me so many times with amazon purchases that I no longer risk ordering clothes, shoes and other items claiming to be leather or silk etc. Just dreadful. The other issue I've had is with products claiming to be made somewhere I consider ok, like Germany or USA, and when you get the product it either turns out to have been mailed from (and clearly produced in) China despite its labelling, or it is otherwise obvious that the product was made in China.

Even when an item appears to be genuine, I have no end of trouble with colours being not as pictured and so on. Just about had enough of ordering online, especially amazon.

Complain for sure, but keep the shoes if you like them. I'm a leather snob, but I have 1 pair of shoes, and 1 pair of sandals that I love, love, love, and they are man made. I bought them because of the style and low price (the experiment was affordable).

I've noticed some non-leather designer bags are as expensive (or more so) than less well known brands made of leather.

I would return and complain. Online retailers should be clear in their descriptions of their merchandise and if you allow them to get away with false advertising, they will continue the practice of defrauding people. I know shoes are hard to find but you will be able to find another pair.

I had this happen in reverse! When I was vegan I ordered a pair of shoes from Zappos' vegan section and they turned out to be leather. I returned them and asked them to take the shoes out of the vegan section but instead I think they shut down the vegan section entirely; maybe it was too hard to manage.

Recently I bought a rain jacket from Athleta that was described as having two-way zippers (an important feature for me) but it didn't. I kept it anyway.

sorry you're having this issue, but i would 100% report it....it could be an issue with commuciation as Liz mentioned, which none the less should be corrected.

This drives me nuts. I've had it happen with fiber content at the Gap a few times, and since I'm really picky about all-cotton, it made me sad. I also find it frustrating when shoe descriptions don't specify if the lining is leather (or are sometimes flat out wrong).

Sorry for your frustrating experience!

Wasn't there a thread a few weeks ago about Amazon. I haven't had this exact experience (mislabeling), but have had no-shows three times from affiliated vendors via Amazon. Your experience gives me even more reason to only order directly thru Amazon ( what they stock and ship themselves).

That would be a deal-breaker for me even if I felt OK about the shoes I received--definitely, they are not as described. And I think that would impact my decision about how much to pay for them. I do agree that is something that can happen when different colors/textures are grouped up for sale under one listing.

I've only had issues with this from Amazon. It seems to come from the way they allow different sellers to put items under the same listing, even when there are variations.

It might be false labeling out of intent to deceive, but it also might simply be that some person somewhere in the information chain didn't get the right box checked in a database in order to get the right info to show up on the website.

Contact the company if you wish.

I just received a pair of sandals I ordered on line that were stated "leather" on the site. When I looked inside the shoes they are stamped "all man made material". Has this happened to anyone else? Would you contact the company about this? so far the shoes seem to feel fine, and I really like the style, and I am thinking of not returning them. but I would probably not have not ordered them had they not stated in the description that they were leather.

my red sandals from amazon have nothing inside the shoes themselves, but have a little card in the box in 4 or 5 languages that say they are hand crafted leather. These are my first on line shoe purchases in a while and all others are well worn, but am going to check all future purchases carefully. I do not think price has anything to do with what shoes are made of any more!!!!!
