I was in cato the other day looking for something interview appropriate since I have a job search looming. I saw a lot of rust, mustard, and olive in their fall stuff that's trickling in. Cato skews really boho, so I didn't like most of the styles on offer, but I did score a cool white shirt (which is totally irrelevant LOL)
Some of the red curry and koi colored things look more like rust in store

Don't know much about the fall trends yet, but am curious. And hope Carla is right about the trench coats, belted coats, wide-legged trousers, long and fitted blazers, and turtlenecks, as I love those styles.

I SO hope to get a fab MIDI trench coat. Have wanted it for years.

I have a feeling that there will be a return of brown items, and this is confirmed by Angie in a recent comment to another post on this year's fall fashion. Good for all the people who look great in browns and have been missing them for years. Personally, I would like to renew my fall wardrobe with a few items in COOL browns, which are the only browns I can wear.

Hopefully those colors will show up in more dressy items. Often warm colors are made in very casual-rugged styles, so i default to black a lot. BR had a lot of work appropriate warm tones, so i snapped up a bunch of things

I was out at a couple events this weekend and it definitely struck me that wide legs (cropped) have finally hit the mainstream full-force where I live. I saw everything from ankle-length to culottes; I'm no longer an outlier in my non-skinny pants. ;) I'm very curious to see if/when this will translate into full-length wide legs for F/W.

Agree with the observations about more pastels, full skirts/dresses, lots of menswear checks/plaids, longer blazers, and the return of browns. Not sure if any of that is new this season, it all seems to be a few years in the making.

Suntiger, I've seen quite a bit of mustard, amber, and rust this summer. Seems to be a perennial favourite palette for Madewell, but I feel like I've seen it elsewhere too...

I don’t see any major shifts either... I think the dominant things have been in the works awhile. There is less frenzy. I do feel ‘normal’ is back - as distinct from ‘norm core.’

Volume on the bottom seems to be a trend - fuller skirted dresses, wider legged pants etc..

Tucked and shorter tops.

Lots of texture, lots of faux fur.

Flat and low heel shoes and boots mostly.

I’m wondering just how much more “maximal” we can get. What I see on the street is already pretty crazy, shiny finishes and flapping bits of feather and ribbons and words printed everywhere....

I would add more browns, so far mid to lighter tones like toffee and camel and even off whites to go with them, more fall/winter pastels rather than the traditional earth tones I think Angie is right and anything goes. People are wearing unusual color combinations and unexpected pieces together to stand out. styles seem to be making a big, but slow transition from skinny to wider, loose to more tailored, cropped to long.

I'm no expert, but here's my 2 cents regarding what I think might trend into F/W 2018/2019 based on hat I've been following. FWIW, I think global politics IS affecting fashion and there will be some juxtoposition between old fashioned convention (figure flattery - hourglass, waist definition) when out and about (and at work) and hunkering down and cocooning (at home). Of course there will be cross pollination and we will see street style mix dressy with informal per usual. For specifics I think:

-Soft, silky, and drapey trench coats (see pic 1)
-Belted winter coats with big lapels (see pic 2)
-Double breasted styles (2 sets of buttons down the front)
-Trousers with fuller legs (and a continuation of the high waist) both cropped and to the ground
-long fitted/tailored blazer jackets (menswear, checks and small plaids)
-a modernized version of the 50's New Look silhouette for dresses and skirts outfits (nipped waist and fuller A line to below the knee (midi) skirt
-Sabrina, slash, or boat neck necklines (less cleavage)
-turtleneck sweaters
-(millennial) pink), camel, cream/winter white
-pointy toed footwear (shoes and boots)
-sneakers, and particularly flat form or styles with some elevation
-wide belts
-longer natural hair with less layers

I hope others will chime in with their opinions or observations. Especially if you think I'm off base. Of course, as Angie has said - anything goes these days!
