Angie, I didn't see your "BE SELECTIVE" advice until I was already home, but luckily I must have known it was coming and I heeded it! Laura was great in helping me hone it down to a few essential statement pieces, in a great array of colors and perfect for building my wardrobe around. We'll put together a post later with details, but suffice it to say I LOVED my first NAS pre-sale, and I feel much less overwhelmed by what I will need for the season now.

Kirsten,

I hope you'll have tons of fun and lots of new stuff!
I have been thinking the same, because I would like to take advantage of the sales to buy pieces for the fall.
I found a site with some trends for fall 2009/2010 in terms of colors

http://www.fashionising.com/in.....-1582.html

The color palete is lovely and it has great neutrals!
As to your list I think is perfect and I agree with Laura: a trench coast is a must!

Thanks for clarifying, Angie. Earlier this year I saw women wearing sweater tunics, leggings and boots, but I remember that it wasn't YLF-approved. I was just curious if there were any new developments in the leggings status.

Looking forward to your report, Laura and Kristen!

That's quite a list you have there. Have fun with it!
I think you got some great suggestion from the group above. One thing I noticed in the Harper's Bazaar July issue is the colour combination for the fall - a cross between lemon and mustard combined with grey, white and/or black. It looks really good.

Good luck!!!

These lists are a good start! Focus on the good stuff at the NAS. You’ll be able to get the less expensive stuff at ANY time of the year ANYWHERE. And I can’t stress this point enough – be selective.

Marianne, unlike Kendal Farr, I *do* prefer the look of interesting hose with boots and frocks, as opposed to opaques. For me, leggings are all about the way it’s cropped at the foot and showing off that detail. So I shan’t be wearing my leggings in Autumn and Winter – I’ll switch to hose and boots then, because I’ll totally need a change by the time Sept comes around.

I plan on wearing my leggings in the fall: both as leggings and as tights. Our temps don't get cool until well into winter time.
My goal this fall is to get one pair of super fabulous boots, even if that's all I can get. I did score some lovely oxfords a few months ago on sale. Can't wait to try those out!

Oh, Laura, I hope you don't mind -- but yes, I do need EVERYTHING so my list is super-long and very vague. I'm hoping seeing everything tonight and starting to hear more about it from Angie and some fashion magazines will help me narrow down the list to more specific types, like your quilted trench (A trench! I need one of those too! ack).

I see we will definitely be looking at a lot of similar things, so we should do fine. It's not that one of us wants to spend all their time in handbags and the other in the premium denim. We're much more compatible, thank goodness.

Marianne, I don't know about leggings for fall, although I assume they would be fine until it's too cold for flats. I think Angie's issue is with *colored* opaque tights, that it's a bit too young looking after a certain age. I wear dark tights all winter long myself!

Slightly OT - what do you guys think about leggings looks for fall, and possibly even winter? What type of shoes and outerwear would one need. Boots? Booties? Angie, I know you're not a fan of opaque tights, but it seems that leggings with boots are sort of the same thing.

Kristen, we have our work cut out for us tonight :)

Maybe you want to add some of these items to your list too? This is what I'll be watching out for:

1. Quilted trench coat for fall
2. Cropped military jacket
3. Sack/utilitarian dress
4. Light-colored booties (cream, grey, taupe) or funky loafers
5. Leggings

I know Angie will blog about what's at NAS so I'm looking forward to scoping it out tonight in person!

Laura and I were emailing a little about this earlier today, to prepare for our pre-sale appointment tonight at Nordstroms. She suggested making a list but when I went to start one, I honestly had no idea where to begin! I haven't seen any magazines with coming fall styles yet, and if you recall, I am starting from scratch this fall/winter. I have nothing. I don't even have a winter coat! I live in Chicago and have no coat! Sad.

So my list includes:
1. sweater dresses (I suspect this will be a big one for me this winter)
2. heavier-fabric pants and pencil skirts, in lots of yummy non-black neutrals
3. blazer jackets (NOT black, I have too many in black)
4. one good winter suit (jacket, pants and skirt)
5. winter coats (one car coat or longer for work and one shorter casual, but I doubt I will get them here)
6. leather jacket (again, probably not from here)
7. tights/opaque hose (haha, right! None from last year will fit now)
8. Boots -- I think my blacks will still be good this year, would like a casual flat light brown/chestnut and a chestnut/red-brown dressier heeled one. I think.
9. More bras. I bought 2 until my weight stabilized, now I am ready to expand the collection.
10. Long-sleeved cardigans and sweaters (NO black). I currently own exactly 2 that fit.

And that's not even the fun stuff, like new tops or more dresses or fun new heels! Does anyone have suggestions? Any styles I should try? What's going to be coming that I will kick myself if I miss?
