<p><div>Kathie, tucking into skirts is hard for me, as the waist on many of them is often up by my boobs. I'll be able to try it that way with at least some skirts, though! I didn't try every foreseeable combination last night, but I saw enough to convince me to keep the top. I think it will be a workhorse.</div><div><br /></div><div>kkards - yes! I'm going to keep an eye out. Boden ought to send me a discount this month for my birthday, and that might be one way to go. I'm thinking now if i want to add an ivory sweater I should start with a lighter weight one, which will be more versatile, and just keep an eye out for a chunky one. I probably won't be shopping for myself much in Nov-Dec, which is prime sweater buying season, but I might get some good Christmas money for shopping the post-holiday sales.<br /></div>

<p><div><b>shevia</b>, thanks, I am thinking that's the consensus. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I almost wore the striped top today (it's a bit too warm out), so I guess it's staying!. Wanting to wear something right away is a good sign. Tried it on with the belt too, and the green jeans, and it looked okay (the real rest would be later, while sitting and after eating).<br /></div></p>

<p>
<div>Sarah - those are pretty much my thoughts exactly. Stripe top is a winner for all my purposes. I'll find a way to deal with the other issues. This top is not the only one I have that presents a problem with my SI belt.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I knew the sweater was too long for my purposes once I tried it with the skirt. It's GORGEOUS quality and I'm sure it would be great with all my jeans, but I think it's not ticking the boxes it needs to if I'm buying it for midi skirt wear. I have multiple solid colored sweaters in my other main neutrals... so maybe I'd be able to use multiple ivory sweaters too, if that's my new neutral, but that's not going to happen in the next few months. <br /></div></p>

<p>Oh man, I really like the stripey top in all of those outfits.<br />
I am not as into the ivory sweater — I think maybe a more cropped cut and streamlined arms would balance out the chunky knit better? As is, I think it would work best in exceedingly simple outfits (I liked it better in the try on pic).

<p><div>Kathie, the pic is above in the post. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Aquamarine, OMG, yes, skinny mirrors are the worst. I think my mirror at home is a bit cheap (the best one I could find in carrying distance from my apartment), and so it tends the other way and widens me when I step back from it. There's a mirror in my building lobby if I'm ever really unsure of how I look. Anyway, I never make a firm decision on an item until I've brought it home, ripped the tags off, and worn it out. I do like shopping in person, since things that didn't catch my eye online often will. That faux suede skirt is an example.<br /></div>

<p>You know about skinny mirrors, right? BR, Gap, Loft, AT....EVERY time I try on stuff at those stores and then get home and look at the items in my own mirror, I am disappointed. I do better with mail order from them, since it keeps it real, so to speak, with my own mirror.

<p>Thanks, suntiger and and sterling! I’m going to try both with the skirt and a couple other options in a bit, with and without my SI belt. I suspect the solution in the end is that I just take the belt off when I get places, since it’s almost coat season anyway.</p>
<p>Suntiger, by that measure, our winter will be mild. Summer was on the hot side this year.

<p>I think the striped top would work better with a curved hem at that length, but yes try it with the tulle! I like the sweater, but winters are unpredictable. For us, mild summer generally means bad winter and vise versa:(

<p>torontogirl, I have to think about my clothes more carefully every day now that I’m wearing the belt more, so that’s not a deal breaker per se. I’ve had to do a lot of creative layering, and in some cases tie my jacket around my waist when it’s too warm outside for it. I tried a slimmer profile belt, which works even better but the muffin top was much much worse. I wouldn’t be able to hide it. I am saving that belt for heavy walking days when I travel soon. You’re correct that I could find a cheaper option I like as much, probably. </p>
<p>La Ped - I like the striped top too, in a perfect world. It can work with the tulle skirt immediately, which is something I’m hoping to try tomorrow. I also like the ivory sweater, or I did in the dressing room. See what I said above about my inability to take selfies. </p>
<p>Overall comment: I don’t want to spend the next 6 months in flowy or long tops every day. I like those looks, but the shorter top feels fresher to me right now, and it’s so hard to find a top that looks even remotely cropped on my body. I’m rather emotional right now and won’t be rushing decisions until I play in my wardrobe some with these items. I can wait to return these until the day before my vacation, 10/31. Until then, please keep the opinions coming!</p>

<p>Sterling, I actually really liked both in the dressing room! The doubts about the first started after, and it’s not for lack of liking it. I do like it! </p>
<p>The doubts about the latter started when I saw the picture, but I don’t think I take flattering selfies, anyway... and also it’s 80 degrees or today, which makes buying a heavy sweater feel extra weird. I’m kind of in a fragile place about my body, due to the healing process and the stupid belt giving me muffin top. (I’m usually happy with my hips at least, if not my belly, sigh.) So the flip side of my fear is that I may be talking myself out of nice things for no good reason. </p>
<p>Jussie, thank you! Not confusing at all. I have similar jeans if i want to replicate the look (and whenever I can stop worrying about my clothes being form fitting around the hips).

<p>I really like the striped top (surprise, surprise)! The 90s-retro style looks very current, and it will be great with midi skirts (I wanna see it with the tulle skirt), high-waisted jeans, etc. I know the blouson sleeves are trendy, too, and the ivory sweater looks fine -- just not as exciting to me.&nbsp;

<p>I'm going to be a killjoy, I'm afraid The striped top is cute, but from what you describe, it sounds like it might be too much work ... this might be my own bias; I don't want to think about my clothes once they are on, and this sounds like it might be a bit fiddly with the cropped length?</p>
<p>The ivory is lovely, but it sounds like you are buying for practicality rather than love ... in which case, if budget is an issue, I might see if Gap comes out with some decent quality cable-knits at a more reasonable price point.</p>
<p>That said - they both LOOk great, so if you love them - keep them and enjoy them and don't let me rain on your parade!!

<p><div>Now that we've edited our closets out, it's time to think of re-filling them!</div><div>Just kidding! But I am trying to add strategically. Here's my list:</div><div><br />
</div><div>Another midi length dress and/or skirt (I'm working on these and will post at another time). I've been trying and failing on this front, except for this tulle midi skirt. (Bought previously and I don't have a pic of me in it right now, but I like it.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Knee boots - will probably post about this too. I'm wavering between one style in leather by Sofft, or in synthetic by Euro Soft (essentially the same boot but cheaper. I already have the latter but want to return and order the former instead.)</div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
<div>Plaid topper of some kind - I'd like to invest in a Boden piece, but my finances through the end of the year may not allow it due to travel and the holidays, especially if I spring for the leather boots (more of a need, there). I may be tabling this till January, as a result.<br />
</div><div></div></p>
<p></div><div><br />
</div><div>An ivory sweater - a bit chunky, as I'm seeing models being styled with chunky knitwear over their midis. ETA - I forgot the salient bit - why ivory? I'm feeling that as a neutral for my wardrobe now that I'm moving away from grey. I have plenty of my other two neutrals, black and navy.<br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>More tops that are cropped (kinda) on my short waist - I can't really wear true high rise pants, but I can show off the rises on the pants I do have with cropped tops.</div><div><br />
</div><div>ETA: I'd like a trendy jean and I'm always on the lookout for toppers I can wear at work - things like a gilet or vest I can throw over a long sleeved shirt<br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>I have my eye on some other stuff that I can't prioritize due to finances. I also have to be VERY strict about what I do keep. So without further ado, I tried on the following in BR today and would like your thoughts.</div><div><br />
</div><div>1. Cropped top - I am not usually a bit fan of a rib knit, but I don't find it to be a dealbreaker in this case, for whatever reason. I like this on. I think this top could have versatile applications for work and casual, and with skirts and pants and jeans. That said, I have a lot of bulk around my upper hips that I need to try to hide most days, due to wearing an SI belt for my back, which creates muffin top even when it's not very tight. That means this top would currently work well only with fluid bottoms (or if I layer over it somehow), and not the type jeans I'm wearing here.<br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>I don't know how temporary that state of affairs will be, but it's possible to wear the belt only when I'm out of doors (with a coat over me), as I don't have a strong need to be wearing it all day at work, for example. I mostly need it outside on the pavement. I suppose even this limit to its use should count the top out, since it's less useful for current needs, but I'm kind of frustrated that my back injury has affected my life so much already. I don't want it to claim how I dress, too (though it's inevitably changed my shoe wardrobe a bit).<br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>2 &amp; 3 Ivory sweater - I liked it in the store, but am not so sure now that I see the picture (especially the one from the front). Maybe I'm used to sweaters that are even longer? Also, how much wear I get out of this will depend on what kind of winter we have. We had two frigid winters followed by a relatively mild one. I'm wondering if I'd be served better overall by a lighter weight ivory sweater, even though what I wanted in theory was a chunky one. This will cover my SI belt, so I'm good there.<br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>BTW - The jeans are from BR because I had a dress on today and needed a bottom to try things with. They're nice, if a bit too form fitting for my taste and current situation, but I was never considering them.</div><div></div></p>
<p>ETA - I’m adding outfit lab-ish pics of manly the striped top, as well as one of the sweater how I’d hoped to style it (it’s too hot to keep it on for more). My home mirror is as usual poorly lit and kind of widening, but I decided that hanging it up in my tiny bathroom doesn’t help matters much (there is literally nowhere else to hang it). I am going to hold on to my comments on these so as not to bias anyone. These are all without the SI belt. </p>
<p>4 With tulle skirt<br />
5 with olive jeans<br />
6 with faux suede skirt<br />
7 with distressed jeans and yikes, these jeans shrunk or something because I do NOT like how they look on me anymore. I may be adding to that pass on pile.<br />
8 with trouser jeans<br />
9 ivory sweater with midi skirt
