I haven't read all of the responses yet, but I love the shoes shown in pictures 1-4. The rest I don't feel as positive about. The clogs due to the pant leg grabbing issue, the non-leather shoes due to non-leather. I've tried synthetic shoes a few times and they always end up in the donation bag, quickly. The Pikolinos could go either way, they might be fab if you had the right pants to wear with them. The Kelsi Daggers I would avoid. I have a pair of KD sandals and after only a few wears, the leather separated and the heels and toes became unacceptably scuffed. So I'm a bit down on this brand at the moment but mine could be an isolated experience.

I love the mink and pewter loafers. The pewter ones have the benefit of being high vamped enough that you can easily wear socks with them when needed. I may be in the minority, but I also like the brown ones, and think the sliver of exposed skin is flattering, but the vamp is high enough that you could also get away with socks here. And I really like the silver, but not if they don't fit...

I'm in Atlanta, too. And because I walk to work, I wear a lot of flats. I also struggle in fall/winter because I much prefer either the leg lengthening of a heel or the slimming structure of showing off my calves and ankles. So I share your sartorial pain if not your physical foot pain.

Glad to see you're trying out the Pettys (if they don't work with your feet, a search for them on Amazon will show you other brands with basically the same style). I find that I can wear my Pettys with low invisible socks and exposed ankles in the same temp ranges (or cooler) as covered ankles and sockless feet. I've also been known to wear them with cute striped socks and rolled jeans or straight leg trousers, but not sure how that will go over in your field.

For January and February I move into skinnies with flat boots, leggings and tunics with flat boots, and skirts with tights and flat boots too keep warm and dry. It gets tedious, but then suddenly we get that 70F day in February and I get to put on some pointy toed flats joyously.

Love #1 loafers. I hope 1/2 size up works for you because they are gorgeous - and I am sure the color is even better in person.
The Pikolinos boots are fun. I don't think there is a flower pot effect here and they are slouchy style and not close fitting. However is wearing them with skinnies only is good enough for you?
The pewter loafers are fab too!

Carla, glad you like the pewter and mink shoes!

I wish I could wear Chelsea boots, but honestly, even most zippered boots still require my toe to bend to a tear-inducing degree.

I just don't know about oxfords. I wore them for years with a plaid jumper, peter pan collared top and navy knee socks. That's a hard association to overcome;-)

LOVE the pewter shoes, with the mink loafers a close second.

My Steeve Madden Chelsea boots are workhorses, and going on their 4th year. They are low heeled, leather with elastic gores, and super comfortable to wear. Great with lean pants, but the almond toe isn't as good with loose and flowy trousers...pointy toes, even flats work better.

The zipper on my Russel &Brommley Chelsea boots broke, so I am kind of off zippers on footwear.

Carter, how to you feel about a lace-up Oxford?

Carter, I've become a straight leg jeans wearer recently, and I can tell you that super high vamp is the way to go! For some reason it's just very leg-elongating and streamlined. The mink loafers also have that effect too, though and there's nothing stumpy about it!

Would sooo love to see the Born booties!

Thanks, MKK. The mink loafers fit right in with my style. The pewter ones don't, but boy are they comfy. I agree they work well with the straight legs. So, I'm thinking low vamp or super high vamp is the way to go. The two Born booties came today. I'll do a K/R on those whe the Pettys and the other loafers arrive. Shoes didn't use to be this challenging;-)

The mink loafers are my favorites too! Agree with Thistle that the pointed toe makes them look dressy enough to really elevate an outfit. I think my second favorite for you are the silver because their shape also gives them enough of that refinement and classic feel. The Cole Haan ones Gigi linked to seem like they'd do that as well.

I do think the rest of the loafers and the pair of clogs work as well, but I feel like they'd be more background players, if that makes sense. Like they wouldn't detract from an outfit, but they also wouldn't be the thing that takes it to the next level. And, especially for someone who has comfort issues, I can see where it would be worth it to have a few reliable pairs like that.

I like the booties too for casual outfits.

Shevia and Debbie, interesting that you both really like the brown pair. I love how they look from the side and the front. It's the view from above that I'm not quite sure about. Hopefully my eye will adjust, because I really like everything else about them.

If you can get a comfortable pair of 1/2 and 10/11, I vote one or both pair. I also really like 3/4 if they are not too heavy looking for your area. You might also look for a great pair of leopard or snake flats to add some pizzaz to an outfit. If booties are hard to get to work well, you might try shooties (more shoe-like) with a very small heel. You might study Transcona Shannon's footwear for ideas.

Absolutely loving the mink. Glad you're going to order those in the next size up.

As for the rest, I probably like the pewter, the silver, and the brown about equally well, although I don't love any of them nearly as much as the mink. The clogs feel to me like they are too heavy for your usual style, especially for work. The booties I think look good with skinnies, but as Kiwigal pointed out, if you really want booties for work, I think it may be best to keep looking.

On the silver loafers, I don't know if they will stretch. My local cobbler told me that sometimes synthetics will stretch, sometimes not. If they do stretch, it's not as much as real leather. Also, if you live where it's humid, do you think the synthetic material will make your feet sweat?

Do you like these for another loafer option? (I've not tried them myself.)
http://www.zappos.com/cole-haa.....k-saffiano

Thanks, Makrame! I have ordered the Pettys in a couple colors to try (along with a few additional loafers). I suppose it goes without saying that my August has been something other than austere:-0

Thistle, I totally agree with your thoughts on why the mink loafers work so well. I think the toe shapeis why I liked pumps with my jeans so much. That's the shape and the level of refinement I need. Also, I love the loafers Anna recommends! I think dieppa-restrepo are the ones you're recalling? Just a wee bit more than I hope to spend, but I have been keeping an eye out for a sale on my colors.

I really like the Mink loafers the best.

A few thoughts. I think the reason these work so well is that they are quite dressy and refined. The pointed toe does that.

There is also a fab brand Anna recommends diestpo or something like that. I tried searching for it in the YLF archives, but no luck. They do amazing smoking slippers, and Anna says they are super comfy.

Suede loafers look great. I also like the shape of the brown loafers - maybe not so much the color - but if the color works with your wardrobe, all the better.

Thanks, Viva!

Una, I'm so pleased you have and like the pewter shoes. Think I'm keeping.

I have the Luxury Rebels in pewter. They look like men's slippers with the long high vamp, but I don't care because they are really comfortable and I wear them with everything - skirts and pants. They have been a surprisingly versatile workhorse and I just act like they are JFE.

My faves are the mink and the pewter loafers (both great with straight legs) and the Pikolinos (not flower pots, terrific with your skinnies).

I like the mink ones best because the shape seems the most modern.

Have you seen these loafers? <http://www.colehaan.com/dakota.....wvar_D4204> I was admiring them earlier this week, and they seem like they might be something you'd like.

Thanks, Kellygirl. A higher vamp is totally new to me. I don't know whether it's regional as Suz suggested or whether I'm just so far behind the times. I will have to focus on people's shoes in Atlanta this Fall.

Missvee, I'm happy the pewter ones are getting the thumbs up. They really are comfy. I'm ok with the Pikolinos only working for non-work times. Work shoes are my first priority, but I will need casual shoes too, so I don't mind getting them when I see them.

Thanks, bj1111. The mink loafers are so fab IRL.

Suz, the Pikolinos are the short versions of the ones Alana tried. And you are right, they are out of my "polished" style zone. However, less polished but still conservative feels fine to me in my casual wardrobe. I will definitely look at the Pettys!

Thanks, JackieC! Let's hope the mink ones work a half size up!
