For once, I'm not having to shop for shoes. Hallelujah! Because of my fussy feet, my shoes are rather pricey, so I'm glad that all of the shoes and boots in my closet fit well and are comfortable.

I love the snake print oxfords. I have a weakness for snake print for some reason.

Kerry,
thanks for posting those burgundy sneakers. Such a beautifu color, I will
definitely consider them.

Yes
Angie, I am definitely staying open minded, that is terrific advice from you, as always.

Suz
the grey ones would be perfect for you! How can you go wrong with grey flannel in a
cold climate? (..hmm...I need to take my own advice I think..)

Thanks RobinF, and yes you are so right that fit is everything.

Tanya, I’ve got two weekends down and one to go Maybe I will rethink the style icon game and join in the fun. Burgundy and sliver are definitely on my list. Thanks for the info on comfort of the Glick and Zero Grand. I have great success with Clarks but have never owned Cole Haan’s although DH has sworn by them for years.

Jaileen thanks for the info on Seychelles. It's a brand I’ve been interested in for a few years but have not yet purchased. They seem really well made and I always like the designs. You have it right on Trotters as a brand, I’ve finally learned my lesson. Well made, comfortable, last forever, but not modern.

Joyce B thanks for the fit info on the Vionic.

Suz thanks for the additional vote on the Shelleys. I hear you on jumping right from sandals to booties. My climate is pretty similar to yours, although my winter season is a tiny bit shorter than yours. I’m going to pay close attention this year to how it works out. I also know exactly what you’re talking about re; keeping shoes on your feet…I have similar experiences.

Thanks Angie, you are so kind! I am definitely going to try the Vionics thanks for the vote on that. And yes I will definitely look at the Ellen D line, I’ve noticed them in the stores recently and they are very interested as a sporty/casual option. I’m really liking the flannel grey option of the one you showed….which breaks my rule of no menwswear/sporty but hey those rules are just a starting point.

Firecracker I agree what the Everlanes do really fit my description well. I’d rather stick to ordering from places I know and trust with free shipping and easy returns like Nordstrom, Zappos, Lord & Taylor, Anthro….but I’m definitely looking for others like that. The Kate Spades are really more of a fantasy life thing for me. I doubt if I’d really buy them ….I can satisfy my cat motif cravings other ways

The Everlane pair seem to fit your description best. They look modern classic, polished, feminine, and refined. The Kate Spades are pretty, too, and cheeky!, but they don't look as versatile to me. They are kind of a statement shoe.

Welcome back. Missed you.

Chris, I know you said no ballet flats, but Vionics specialize in GREAT arch support, so I'm recommending these too.

Ellen Degeneres just brought out an AMAZINGLY comfy and fab looking pair of white sneaks. My clients are in love. See the Find. (It also comes in three other colours).

Nodding along with Tanya. For sure do an icon -- I'm still getting to (at least) one of mine in the weeks ahead.

And love the snakeskin Shelleys (though I don't know anything about comfort in this brand). Inge will recommend those Cole Haans I suspect, along with other forum members; they're supposed to be excellent for comfort.

I am terrible at recommending shoes, since I rarely wear them. I seem to move straight from sandals to booties! I do have one pair of oxfords, and one pair of crossover season sneakers (white). (I also have a mesh top summer sneaker but not I'm not counting that).

I seem to wear booties (and boots) from mid to late September through until early to mid-May. It may be because I am walking more than using a car -- I don't know -- but the season for actual shoes seems so terribly short where I live. It doesn't help that I'm unable to keep most shoes on my feet; the only type that reliably work are lace ups and monk's strap types.

I do try to have a couple of dressy shoes for going out, but that is a different category.

You have some great shoes here! I love the snake print oxfords and the Vionic. The latter do run half a size large. I am working on a pair of those and had to re-order in a smaller size.
I hope you will find great and comfy shoes. Keep us posted.

I like the shoes you've pictured a lot, especially the Seychelles. Zappos has a similar version, more of a penny loafer, without the braided part. I have Seychelle booties in that same distressed leather and they're very soft. I also like the snakeskin oxfords. I'm very attracted to snakeskin right now.

Re the trotters: I had a pair of them that I wore to work probably 20 years ago so I agree that they're not modern looking.

Hi Chris, and welcome back! Hope you have enjoyed your weekends away. And I don't think you have missed the style icon game at all, I am just preparing to start posting some of my interpretations, so feel free to join me.
Most of your ideas look very good, and I would strongly suggest picking a color like burgundy as well as a metallic like silver for a dose of fun. From the forum/Angie, I know that Clarks Glick and Cole Haan Zero Grand are extremely comfortable. The Cole Haan comes in all sorts of beautiful colors so I would consider that too. I also really like the looks of the snakeskin Shellys oxford and the last SW loafers.

Hi everyone, sorry I've not been around much lately. I’ve been doing a bunch of fun things, including three long weekends in a row away from home. I’ll post some WIW's eventually, meantime I’m stalking a little but not posting. My closet edit part 2 is on hold until I’m home enough to do it. I completely missed the “style icon” game but would have no idea which one to choose. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.

As we move into fall my top priority is shoes. Ignoring ankle boots (I have a good selection), at-home-only shoes, winter-only, running shoes, and the pumps I used to wear to work, I have 5 pairs, all shown in finds except the clarks which are similar. It’s all very sporty/preppy/menswear, my "old" style and rather uninspiring.

1.Via Spiga black suede monk strap loafers – I like these a lot. The front is suede, the back is regular leather
2.Donald Pliner black pony hair moccasins – very little support so I don’t wear them much
3.Trotters Cognac flats – comfortable and good quality but fairly preppy and not too modern IMHO
4.Reiker blue slip on sneakers – I’ll try these with socks but I suspect the perforations will make them not warm enough at some point in the fall.
5.Clark black walking sneakers - very sporty and my default choice for travel if I'm flying somewhere and packing light.

I want to get some shoes that are more modern classic, feminine, polished, and refined. My wardrobe is mostly casual, classic but moving toward modern classic, with a little boho, and yearnings for touches of modern retro and urban pretty. Jeans, slacks, sweaters, toppers, a few dresses. I would wear these shoes with straight leg or slim jeans and pants. I would probably not wear them with skinny jeans, I would go with ankle boots instead.

What I want: flat or low heels, good support and some thickness to the sole (or I’ll add inserts). I’m thinking tassel loafers, loafers with a thicker/contrasting sole, pointy toe loafers with a fairly high vamp, oxfords in colors other than black (black oxfords seems very “menswear” to me.) I know loafers and oxfords inherently have some degree of a menswear, preppy, traditional vibe, but I’d like to move toward the monikers listed above as much as I can.

What I do not want (at least not for now): ballet flats, clogs, smoking slippers, maryjanes, open toe or perforated styles.

Colors: My neutrals for cooler months are black, navy/ink, grey, and burgundy which I use as a neutral. For shoes I’m thinking black or black print, grey/silver, snakeskin. I do plan to look for leopard print and/or dark red shoes/boots too, but I'm focusing first on the black/grey colors first because they will be the most versatile.

I’ve put a bunch of ideas into finds #6 and later. Would love you hear your inputs, suggestions, and ideas!

p.s. the kate spade patent kitty loafers are way outside my budget but they are so adorable that I might just have to order them and let the chips fall…
