does a Bday present have to be practical? hmmm, me think not.

but, I am gonna be a downer because I truly think that coat would drive me nuts. The way it hangs open makes me think it would annoy me and zipping it up? well it is thick wool (not for indoor use) and it will create bulk, halfway buttoned isn't going to keep the chest warm,

it looks cool, it really does, I see that, but I wanna vote no. sorry.

I commented on your separate post about coat #2 so won't repeat it here.

The boots are fab IMO and would suit your style as well as be completely practical. And I adore the red quilted jacket - fabulous (and current) colour for you.

Oh wow the wool jacket is amazing. Seriously. And the boots are fabulous too.

While nice, I dont see anything especially unique or exciting about the other two. I do prefer #1. It looks more fitted than the red.

Well, I love everything for you. (I commented on the wool jacket on the other thread). Did you try the GAP quilted jacket by chance?

Hm, I wonder if #2 is lightweight enough to wear indoors on cold days? Then it could replace my threadbare black tweed blazer and probably double as outerwear in my climate as well... too much of a reach? Nordies calls it a "jacket" rather than a "coat." Here are 2 ways to wear it open.

#2 for me too. It's a pain that it is the impractical one.

2 is unique, isn't it? But there is no real wardrobe hole for it to fill. I think I'd have to get rid of either my black Karen Millen wool coat or my F21 faux shearling jacket. Unless this could somehow replace my polyester rain jacket instead of the quilted jacket? Can wool be water-proofed? o_0

#3 I love because of the two-tone and calf strap, top calf cinch, slim calf fit, and the fact that there is no fur involved. I've looked, and I don't think a different model would do it for me.

2 seems most You and unique to me, definitely worth a thought since it is not likely you will come across this at a lower price point . 1 most practical. 3 there are options on these (I got some great Sorel's last year for a very good price) unless you are specific on the wooden heel etc...

Okay, so this is better than last season's wish list, which I packed full of all sorts of things. Fewer this time around, but more spendy - in line with the goal to *have* fewer, better items. I've done a great job paying for my Frye boots with Ebay sales and such, so that has freed up my Birthday-gift-to-self slot for the year. Any opinions on these items that have caught my attention?

1 - Basic black quilted jacket. Been looking and looking for one to get instead of my unlined polyester utility jacket. This one is lined in fleece. I can get a good price, but I'd have to order from abroad.

2 - The opposite of #1. Warm, wool statement jacket that Astrid posted today. Even more spendy than #1. Doesn't resist rain, definitely not gear, doesn't replace anything, but such a cool design. I guess that's the most impractical one.

3 - Duck boot lust has followed me since last Fall. These are selling out in my size; only a few places that still have them in this color. Yes, they look like gear, but that is what I love about them - utilitarian is one of my main aspirational vibes. I don't have a true waterproof/rain boot, and I could wear these as casual wear as well as gear.

Favorites? Elimination suggestions? Alternative suggestions? My birthday is not until December, but I'm not against pre-planning.

4 - ETA this Brooks Brothers quilted moto that amazingly is lined in acetate instead of poly.
