Oh, yes, fun. I see your idea about contrasting shapes and dimensions.
I had thought of velvet, too- a contrast with the lace, and rich fall- looking.
“ Outdoor dressy” can be hard! Which is why I think a lot of people just goes as they can!

4 purse ideas
(1) Something boho-lite. I have an excellent quality casual boho-lite bag from Lucky Brand. They tend to be more on the structured side of boho-lite rather than the frilly side like Anthropologie. You might try there. But that's only If you can see it working with other things that you own.
(2) Maybe try a velvet purse. You could get something inexpensive that would work well as a travel pouch inside your luggage in future.
(3) It's mostly the flatness of the shape of the metallic one that bothers me against the flatness (no pleats or tiers) of the dress. I think any classic bag which is smaller but has a little more depth front to back (like a brick or baguette shape) would be less noticeably modern.
(4) I have a (handed down from a friend of my mom) lovely little emerald green suede purse from Coach, which just has one little tassel. I'd call it boho-ultra-lite. I wear it frequently for holiday events. You could maybe find something a little bit unusual from a classic brand like that or Cole Haan. Maybe think about what would be versatile enough that you'd enjoy it with a variety of outfits. My green bag looks as good with white jeans until the summer as it does with a black dress in the winter.

3style, thanks, the sweater I had in mind would have to be a top on its own.
I’m interested in what type of bag you might use if you could have whatever. Of course I’m dealing with outfit creation— I can get potentially get new items, but would only get things I could see fitting into my style and wardrobe— either dressy items with longevity/ versatility— for example, the PERFECT velvet jacket ( and hence wanting the right boots for my feet and for other occasions and not quick- fix boots) or crissover items I can see wearing.
Were you thinking some kind of dressy- boho bag?

Unfrumped,
Any chance you could wear the RL sweater over the dress pictured here?

Also, I'm in the minority here, but I don't love the clutch in this context. I feel like it is too modern for a farm theme wedding.

I think either short or long boots look equally nice with the dress.

At first glance I thought the dress did read as Holiday Season. But I think that the earthy wrap on top totally offsets that effect.

If it were me, I would probably do the dress with the RL sweater over it and then the wrap on top of that! But I run cold.

Someone should make puffy coats suitable for outdoor weddings..a niche that needs filling. The dress looks perfect. I second finding some long sleeved warm underwear to wear under it. Biker shorts or knee length Cuddle Duds might give some extra leg warmth under the dress.

Thanks for comments! I starting to channel rachylou and wonder, if I wear dress I may need a coat- a light wrap may not be enough . We had a day in 60’s this week- walking out to my car in a skirt with tights and a sweater , I froze!

I love the dress, especially with your jewelry and wrap. *I wouldn't do silver bangles, but I tend to underaccesorize, I think. I agree with Angie, if you can get flat boots, go with those, but what you have is lovely and appropriate, I think.

So, for what it's worth, long boots would be nice but I'm a short boots person myself and hence really like your dress with the short boots. Whatever footwear you choose, I hope you have a really fabulous time.
Best wishes
Denise

The dress is lovely and looks much better on you than on the model. The shawl and silver accessories look fine, too. I support the suggestions about wearing a black layering tee (preferably of thin wool), wearing flat tall boots and/or doubling your tights.

JAileen as I was glancing down and saw the furry boot picture- my first thought was someone had taken a accidental picture of a Maltese or Shitzu forelegs on down.
I agree the fur boots would be very glam and fun for a ski hill wedding.

I've heard of weddings at the top of a local ski hill. In the snow. So for an event like that, I would dress as if I were going to the North Pole*.

I can't imagine there wouldn't be somewhere to get out of the cold and/or wind at your event. On the other hand, at the barn wedding we went to last summer, our seats for the ceremony and the reception were in the sun, on one of the hottest days of the year. :(

*For the ski hill wedding I would want these furry Tecnica snow boots!

Also this event so far is an example of not getting enough intel on the actual way if will work- is there a short ceremony outside and then move indoors, or heaters, tents- - all of these things are potentially available at this venue but I don’t know— or is tge whole thing outside as long as no rain. I MAY be able to find out more.
There is a lot written on the outdoor wedding trend and how little guidance guests get. . I also know it’s up to me to bring even a coat if I think I might need it.
It would be fun to think, what would I or YOU wear if could concoct anything we wanted? ( that is warm).

rachylou, I hear that! I have a few other footwear options that are more “ pump” - like but no warmer. I’m fretting over the footwear when it could be I need s whole other option if the weather is that cool or cooler. I might envision my dressy long trousers and a delicious velvet jacket and ruffled blouse.

Actually I DO have an interesting RL- type sweater that evokes English countryside to me; if it were only a little dressier or combined with something more satiny.

Brooklyn, thanks, I could do that for sure if I’m not too worried about temps. Or maybe I could do the double- up with smoke or off- black hose over sheer hose. I’ve never done double tights but YLFers have touted that for better warmth when trying to LOOK less like you’re bundled up.

Have you tried sheer black tights? I would also try out a grey-ish tinted sheer tight. They are usually labelled "smoke" or something like that. Just to lighten things up a bit.

Thanks, delurked ! Sometimes I have to think about how to spend more time DOING and less time collecting what to wear while doing. For me there’s a fine line between achieving my confidence level and trying to just be satisfied more easily. Or, having fun with fashion as much as I can without letting it take me over. I can get paralyzed. I still love suggestions and ideas for tweaks because it might make a lightbulb go off somewhere in my brain, for now or later, and because I can THINK about options without being compelled to act on them.

Firecracker, that’s a great point. I will try a couple of black under- items to see the effect. The warmer I am “ as- is”, the less likely I am to huddle in maximum wrappings, but can look “ nonchalant”! Weather updates will help too.

Nicely done! The dress is gorgeous on you. The silver earrings echo the clutch nicely (and I don't even see the clip in your photo). If you need extra warmth, I think you might be able to wear a lightweight black layering tee (I have Uniqlo in mind) with sleeves--it would forfeit the sheer sleeve look, but I think it would just look like an intentional lining of the sleeves. (I would push up the sleeves, not leave them hanging out.)

Thanks, Angie ! Those funds are an inspiration for finding a pair.
I only recently realized I’d be able to attend this event. So there’s not too much time for boot- shopping- sigh- trial and error sizing, such big packages and can’t get returns done promptly with my work schedule- plus my tendency to grasp at something last- minute instead of being picky.
We shall see...

I adore the dress, wrap and clutch.

Personally, I vote get tall flat boots. Read Monday's post. I have 13 inch calves too.

It looks very pretty. A full length slip will also provide some warmth. I actually like the shawl. I would probably bring the black jacket but leave it in the car. Then retrieve it if you need it. It won't look bad. Everyone will envy you for being warm. Do you have tall boots? They would be warmer.

I went to a barn wedding last year and it was so hot I thought I was gonna die.
