I tested them this afternoon They rub my pinkie, just like every other converse sneaker I've ever worn. I guess I can deal with that from time to time. Good points you made, all of you!

My teen buys knockoffs of Cons and Uggs. I don't think they are made as well as the real thing. They have less arch support and fall apart around the edges near the soles and wear on the bottom fairly quickly. Fast fashion seems to work for her at this stage in her life, but I am hoping she will move to more quality and less quantity in time.

I think it depends on the quality of the cheap ones, there are ones that are alright and ones that aren't worth even 10€ in my opinion. I had real converse and cheap ones, but I always checked a few things before buying cheap ones: smell, flexibility, edges and seams. My real chucks were always a neutral color (blue or grey) and I wore them maybe six months out of twelve in my teens. With this heavy use the real ones made it maybe two years. My cheap ones were more unusual colors and I didn't wear them as often, so I can't make a direct comparison about wear.

Wow - amazing that such a US staple is so much more when it is imported.
Since you don't wear them often, seems like you find a good solution.

I've been thinking this exact same thing myself!

I've been scoping out a pair of (ironically) 'lemonade' converse for awhile and was pained at the thought of paying £50 for what is essentially canvas trainers. So I have compromised. I recently bought a pair of pretty much exact copies, in the same pale yellow colour, for £8.99 from New Look. I promised myself that if I wear them religiously all summer and find that they become a stape in the wardrobe I might treat myself to the real ones, but If I dont wear them much, I haven't really lost out.

Of course if the quality of the fakes last really well over the summer, I may just get another pair of them :0)

I bought a new pair of 'fake' chucks today. I bouhgt them at Primark because I feel they might be a bit wider than what the Spanish firms make, since the British tend to have wider feet. I've had comfortability issues with this type of sneakers in the past, but they are so cute!

I've never bought the 'real' thing, to be honest, so I don't know for sure, but I just can't pay 60-80 euros for a pair of CANVAS shoes. I can get a pair of leather ballet flats for that money, and a pair of GOOD shoes, great brand and soft cushioning.

The ones I got don't even have a brand stamp or anything, they look just like plain old sneakers (like the ones the guys in Grease wear), black with the white stitches, although if they work for me, I'll get them in red too. I wouldn't say they are 'fake', since they do not look like real Cons anyways.

But I keep wondering... is there a difference between the inexpensive 7 euros shoes I bought (ok, I've never bought them that cheap before, but this is Primark) and the real ones? Is it really worth it?

By the way, I don't wear sneakers that often anymore. The ones I wore in the past, I wore them regularly and lasted for about a year, so I don't think they were that bad.
