If your hair is curly, ingrown hair will be more of a problem. To prevent the inflammation that goes with ingrown hairs, try sponging the area after waxing or tweezing with hydrogen peroxide, then applying an antibiotic ointment. In the following days, keep the area gently exfoliated. This prevents the new growth from being trapped (ingrown) by overlying skin. Good luck!

I have mixed news. Like Jules and Echo pointed out, it is GREAT for fine downy hair. I used it under my chin and on my forehead and it worked very well.Upper lip, not so much. There are several coarse and stubby hairs so I had to go over them after a day with tweezers. It definitely an improvement over wax strips.

I'll try a professional wax per Echo's suggestion. I suspect it is a combination of hormones and hair type and there isn't much I can do about it

I don’t think this will help you with dark hair, but maybe for others who mostly have fine light baby hair like me: I trim my upper lip area with hair cutting scissors (which I happened to already own when someone suggested this method to me, but are pretty cheap and make the job easy). It’s a simple way to keep things under control. I am also interested in the face razors, will try that soon.

I'm super curious about this face shaving topic.

I just tried to watch a video by a Michelle Money but she's a little too hard line about how disgusting facial hair is, so not the right source of information for me.

Please, if you have time, report back in a few weeks on wether you're still happy. As others have said, after so many years of waxing, hot wax, no strips, my regrowth is minimal and I just use tweezers in between but I'm open to ideas.

I'm especially curious about wether it seems good for your skin and wether you notice any improvement in texture or appearance.

I use Sally Hanson cold wax strips. For those annoying strays that it doesn’t take care of, or touch-ups in between, I simply pluck with the aid of a magnifying mirror and good tweezers. Years of waxing has definitely resulted in less regrowth.

I just use a plain disposable razor, the same as one I use on my legs. Every morning after brushing my teeth, I apply liquid hand soap to my upper lip, seems to work better than shaving cream or gel, run hot water over the razor, and just shave my upper lip. I don't find stubble to be an issue.

Once in awhile a little tweezing gets rid of a darker, coarser hair.

I used to use facial hair bleach, then when the hair came in coarser, tried a depilatory. But those actually took lots of time, and since not being used every day, didn't result in a consistently hair-free appearance.

One thing to note with a razor is to take care in not going diagonally at all, or you could get a nick.

Good luck in finding your solution!

I would go with a professional using hard wax instead of strips. Razors will leave you with stubble almost immediately.

Try a professional wax and see if it gives you better results? I used to go for electrolysis, which worked for me because I had a limited number of coarse hairs. It worked until after I had my kids and new hairs grew in. I have just started waxing again. I am interested to find out about the Tinkle razor.

There are lasers designed to work safely on darker skin. I am also brown skinned with dark hair and laser hair removal on my chin was relatively painless, left no scarring and lasted for several years. I want to have it done again but the only machine on the island where I live is not working at the moment. I don't know where you live but you should ask around to see if any practice can offer what you need.

Just trying to find mine on-line to share a link and see that it's been discontinued! Ack! I have been using a 2-part balm/removal cream from Olay and it's the best. I did wax for a few years, and now there isn't enough hair growing back to justify waxing. The hair removal cream takes care of the odd dark hair plus all of the baby hair stuff.

Maybe try switching to a strip-free wax? It sounds like yours are breaking the hair, rather than pulling it out by the root—it’s a common issue.
