Thank you all so much !!

Krista, those tips are great. I don't do manis and pedis. But you bring up some good points.

I have facials about twice a year and these are some of the things I've learned....

The first thing is to look for a spa and esthetician you can trust. Do you go for pedicures or manicures at a spa? Then they usually have someone on staff who also does facials, and you can start by asking them some questions. If not, it's best to ask friends and family where they go (ask the women with great skin - it's a good start!), and then go to those places to ask questions about their facials. To me, no one should be touching your skin without looking at it first and having an honest conversation about how you care for it, etc.

The best facials I've had over the years have been with estheticians who work in very small spas (or even work out of their homes!), who have come highly recommended, and who have always taken the time, even when I'm a regular, to speak with me first about changes in my skin and skin care routine. My current esthetician always has this conversation with me and has a set of facials she offers, but the facial I end up having is always a combination of whatever she feels is necessary based on the way my skin looks.

If you find the right esthetician, you don't have to worry about knowing what type of facial to ask for, they will guide you through the process and choose the right one. It can take time to find someone you trust, but it's worth it in the end. The skin on our faces is very sensitive and deserving of the investment!

I'm 48, too my fave facial ever is the Guinot Hydradermie facial http://www.guinotusa.com/treatments/hydradermie/ Guinot also do a facial called Beaute Neuve which uses fruit acids. I highly recommend both of them - my skin always looks better for a couple of weeks afterwards.

I have in the past. I think a "peel" type facial is best in the spring or early summer. If you do this in fall or winter it may lead to excessive dryness...I would do a peel in spring and something more moisturizing in the fall or winter. The peel will be stronger than what you get daily with the Mia.

Ever since Angie wrote the posts on skincare earlier this year, I have been making changes a little at a time to my routine. I have started using the Clarisonic Mia and I am very happy with it.

Now, I want to do a facial, twice a year. But I have no idea what to ask for and what to do. There is one with glycolic acid, but since I "exfoliate" with the Mia, should I do this ? Or are the two things separate ? At my age, 48, should I due a hydrating facial in the Winter ? Does anyone have a facial regularly ?

Thanks for your help, ladies !
