It might be an embroidered silk, but that stiffness you mentioned is a key characteristic of brocade. There was a certain fabric on some of these dresses, and I am wondering if anyone knows what it is. Sort of brocade-like--annoyingly stiff. Very beautiful clothes, but a pain to get into. You find it in thrift stores sometimes.&nbsp;</p> <p>Here is a scene from the movie Ray. The fabric I am thinking of is this...or close to this. What is it?&nbsp; </p>
