I vote fab find - with the expectation that the ON version might look very different after the laundry process.

I vote fab find! I don't think this is a sweater that you would wear for years and years to come. It's just a fun piece to wear for a season or two. No need to drop serious money for that. I saw some similar at Target today. Dd got one with a fox knit into it.

I say try it out - I too cannot wear any wool or cashmere so I understand.

I think its a good deal if you love the heart idea and don't really need it in sweater. I personally don't buy very pricey everyday-wear so I don't think I could justify a $90 sweater with a heart on it.

Thanks for the good info., IK. I'm not too knowledgeable about knits. The bad photo may not show it, but the Old Navy piece is indeed a sweater and not a T-shirt, for what it is worth, though of course a different weight and quality level than a wool or cashmere piece.

There's a bit of difference in function between a wool or cashmere sweater with an intarsia pattern (which is the fancy name for when the yarn itself changes color in the pattern, which typically makes for a pricier knit) and a tshirt with a print on it. One you can wear to the office, or in the cold, for example, the other maybe not. But if you love the heart motif, and can wear T's, I say go for it. Another option might be to do your own applique or reverse applique on a sweater you already like!

Sorry for the iPhone poor quality pic, ladies. J Crew has two sweaters I've been coveting (one with very simple, medium-size graphic polka dots; the other a simple heart motif. Both pricey. Both wool.

Wool (and cashmere) and I are NOT friends, so most Crew sweaters are off limits for me, even as layering pieces.

Enter Old Navy with some extremely similar designs, in cotton. Here's a pic of one with the Crew catalog inset for comparison. There are multiple color combos in both the heart and polka dot designs, as well as striped versions. Hard to think about sweaters in this AZ heat, but these are also lightweight, an added bonus in my neck of the woods, even in winter.

The price difference was considerable, as you might expect. $90 for Crew; $19 (with discount) for ON. I also seem to recall this heart design being offered last year at
J Crew (a designer version, maybe?) for a whole lot more.
