There are many problems associated with cosmetics and everything related to them. Many companies use toxic substances or do things that harm the ecosystem. Then influential people promote these products without doing any research, and that's sad, too. Let's talk about eyelashes, for example. I used to use mascara that contained many toxic ingredients, and I managed to damage my skin. Now I'm using some Retro Anime Aesthetic products, and the problems are gone. Because of that incident, I am very careful about what gets on my skin.

It's fascinating to hear so many of us think brows are important. I learned that from my mother actually... who had snow white hair and made sure to subtly tint her brows. I feel that I'm not dressed if I don't have earrings on and have not groomed my brows. As my brown hair has gone gray my brows have more and more blonde hairs and now look pale and spotty - not giving me the structure we're all talking about. The shape is fine but I pluck or trim those extremely long curly hairs that have started coming in. I use brow powder from Eyebrowz to fill in color. They have several brow grooming products that I like and lots of information on shaping eyebrows. I sometimes use their gel to tame the errant hairs. Eyebrowz is a Washington state-based company and I believe started by a professional makeup artist.

I have light blonde hair naturally turning lighter and my eyebrows are not very heavy so I have learned to rely on brow pencil to fill them in. I have the most trouble finding the light blonde color but I have found one I think based on an older Angie rec - Laura Mercier brow pencil in blonde. I use a big magnification mirror and just basically fill in a little around the natural shape and esp towards the nose where my natural brows seem a little wider apart than I think they should be (maybe due to plucking at some point) and at the edges towards the ears as many have mentioned. I sometimes trim my eyebrows just a little because they do grow longer than I prefer. Not thicker than I prefer, just longer. :-)

I've also used castor oil (look it up) on/off and it does seem to help stimulate growth. Much cheaper than a special serum too.

Just chiming back in to say I picked up DonnaF's recommended Revlon color stay brow creator yesterday - on sale at the drugstore woohoo. Really like this product! The pencil is very much like the Anastasia, and then there's a little sponge tip for the powder and the spoolie. I got the medium brown and it's a good match for my darker hair. It even survived some pool splashes. Thanks for the reco Donna and worth a try for anyone looking to experiment.

So much great info here! I have never done much to my brows other than slight tweezing but now as my hair grays the outer edges of my brows are also graying and disappearing. I use a powder in a pretty dark shade that matches my brows that still show and think it works pretty well. But I am really tempted to try the mustache dye - makes me nervous though, nowhere to hide if they turn out too dark or too big :(

This reminds me of a friend's comment when I started to go gray the she hopes I don't color my brows dark because she hates that look. Uh, what if I still have half dark brows? I will happily ignore her and keep my brows.

Lisa I have long admired your eyebrows. I never used to do anything with my eyebrows other than get rid of strays. I started using Latisse on my eyelashes and then put the extra onto the tails of my eyebrows as I notice them looking a little thinner. I also got a blond Hourglass pencil/brush thingy that I’ve had for more than a year so I must not be using a lot of product, but I like it.

I like this Arches and Halos brow tinted brow mousse. The brush is fantastic at grabbing non-existent hairs. My hairs are so sparse and white that I go two shades darker for definition. The look is not on-trend (= prominent and defined) but I feel it frames my face just enough.

You KNOW that I am a BIG believer in brows to add structure and frame the face. I don't do much else, but bi-weekly threading has becoem something I have adopted post pandemic (I have a plce that does my face for $10 and it takes 15 minutes.) I have very full eyebrows that need to be thinned out and shaped (thanks Dad.) When they grow sparse, I will definitely microblade.

I have invisible brows and they’re covered by my glasses frame, so I’d never put much thought into them. (I don’t wear makeup.) But then I got them waxed and very slightly tinted and loved it. They have no shape or color on their own (invisible fuzzy caterpillar that extends way down from my browbone…) so it makes a big difference. Unfortunately the one salon I liked closed for good during the pandemic. They were so good at a quick hipster-style wax job - not carefully shaped, just cleaned up to leave them as heavy as possible. The threading places I’ve tried take too much off and it hurts like %*#$. And I can’t do it myself because I’m blind as a bat. Finding a new brow place is a huge priority now that I’m going back to work in person… in the meantime I found an auburn brow gel from Sephora. If I’m careful to only color the part of my eyebrow I want to keep, the rest of it stays invisible.

CarolS, nope, mine stays. I apply tiny strokes between the hairs at the ends of my brows. I use a spoolie to blend. My makeup is more of an enhanced natural look, I don’t do clearly defined eyebrows and use very little product.

Thank you for this post. I always liked my eyebrows until one time I was given a voucher for a facial and the beautician waxed my eyebrows, taking off about 50% of the brow, I think Marlene Dietrich was her inspiration. My brows never recovered! I now use eyebrow pencil and a brow gel, I am currently using Revlon Colorstay products and find the blonde colour a good match for me.

@Star - you may want to go with a slightly lighter eyebrow pencil. Not grey, but there are blonde eyebrow pencils that have a slightly ashy colour to them - they work with my lighter hair colour.

I had no idea that eyebrows go grey or the hairs get long and bushy on women (I have seen this unruly effect on old men). Thankyou forum members for the heads up on that one. It is truly good to know these things in advance so when it happens I don't feel so blind sided by it all.

This is so interesting. I have always considered my brows one of my defining features and have weirdly received compliments on them. But they have definitely thinned with age and one of the first things I do when I do anything is fill them in. I am not that fussy about which pencil or brush as they are already dark (although a few whites are popping up) and most do the trick just fine. I can certainly see tinting in my future.
(BTW, I hope this doesn't sound obnoxious, but I have never understood the idea of overplucking leading to thin brows. I can only dream that a plucked hair would never grow back!)

Interesting thread. I agree that eyebrows are important. I always left my eyebrows alone. I plucked a little back in the day, and I went for threading occasionally, but mostly I just left them alone. They look fine the way they are. I followed a YouTube video on how to measure them, and they are in the right position. Or whatever the term is.
I do go for tinting if I can find someone. I might try the beard tint that has been mentioned.
I use the Benefit brow mascara when I can't get them tinted. It is the only one I have used, so I can't compare it to the others.

Oh yes ,a raised eyebrow is one of my main ways of communicating my displeasure!l have always had quite a lot of eyebrow considering my hair colour and l never paticularly paid any attention to the other than plucking out the central hairs to prevent monobrow, but as eyebrows have become more of a “thing” l have tried waxing but now just pluck them into shape myself.l don’t dye them as any colour looks too heavy with my blonde hair so l am worried about overdoing it.Luckily ldont have much grey to cover in my brows .The product that’s getting a lot of attention over here for brows is Boy brow by glossier.?Any one tried it yet?

L’Abeille, that’s good to know. My hair is virtually white in front and I would like a little boost to my brows without looking like Martin Scorsese, so taupe it is.

LOL about expressive eyebrows. My sister and I have joked about how we talk with the upper halves of our face probably more than we do with our mouths! Probably why I have so many lines in my forehead too.

Interesting comments about how brows may be important for communication and ‘channeling She Who Must Be Obeyed’. Although I prefer to rock a somewhat less defined brow, I have found that often simply raising my eyebrows at slightly ‘off’ (or just unwanted) comments from strangers in public can be very effective. My kids also know it as a warning sign!

This old post narrates my discovery of the importance of visible eyebrows to my look. Particularly when I want to channel She Who Must Be Obeyed. https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....nspiration

I started out using the Anastasia brow pencil in Taupe. I factored in how long they lasted so I could keep stocked up during my infrequent trips to the nearby city that has a Sephora. Then, a pencil broke on me, when it should have had weeks of use left. I looked for a substitute at my local pharmacy and came across the brow products by Nyx. They carry two styles of pencil. I've found the quality, durability, and ease of use to be the same as Anastasia, but about 1/3 the price.

My morning routine is pretty simple, so adding it after moisturizer/sunscreen is just one more step. It's only been a nuisance when I've been traveling on vacation and lost it (and then people don't listen to me haha).

I looked into professional dyeing, but that includes waxing, which I don't want or need (my brows are not as full as they used to be, but still have a well shaped arch). I bought the Just for Men dye, early in the pandemic, but only used it once. I was terrified it would drop into my eyes and blind me, and then I was afraid it would be too dark (so didn't leave it on long enough). Maybe I'll try again when my sister comes for a visit soon.

Thanks for starting this thread. I have Opinions on this topic.

I LOVE Anastasia brow pencil. FWIW, I tried their powder and gels and did not like the finish and visual effect as much as a good old pencil. But you might prefer the powder so by all means try it! MUST get the colour right. Experiment. Have brow fun :)

I use Refectocil brow dye. I've tried others but always come back to this. It does the cleanest, neatest, and most natural dye job for the brow look I want. I have been using it since I was 18.
