Most of mine get regular wear, but over the past five years I've been slowly culling my shoe collection to get rid of the ones that I don't wear.

In Vancouver, we get four distinct seasons, so some shoes are out of rotation for months, until the weather is appropriate. I wear a lot of boots in the winter, and mostly shoes/sandals in the summer. Spring and fall shoes are the ones that get the most wear.

Style that works starts with good shoes. Even SAHM's feet need stylish 8hr shoes. If you have a great outfit but must sit most of the time b/c footwear, then to me, it is not a great outfit.

Almost all of my heels pinch or rub to some extent and wouldn't be at all appropriate for charging around all day. (My boots and booties are the exception -- most of them are 8-hour shoes despite the heel height.) But that's really okay because my average work day is: hobble to the car, hobble from the parking lot to the office, sit, hobble to lunch and back (2 blocks max), reverse. And all of my shoes will handle that.

This is a tough question for a SAHM, isn't it? I don't ever need to be on my feet for 8 hours. I wore my wine heels to church today by Etienne Aigner, and after 3 hours in them they had to come off! I have flats that I wear most casual days and I even go for evening walks in them...not the most comfortable, but not too bad, either. My most comfortable heels are my black Impo pumps, they are 7 years old but I still wear them all the time because I love them. I've been on the hunt for Ferragamo's to replace them once I find a style I like. ;)

Oh, and I have 2 pair of knee high boots, 1 in black and 1 in brown....5 heels in brown, pink/taupe, 2 black, and wine (on the hunt for nude)....peep toe flats in brown, ballet flats in black, silver ballet flats, plum satin ballet flats with black patent on toe, madras plaid sporty flats....2 pair of black wedges....1 pair black flip flops

I have 17 pairs of shoes, and 9 of those are gear. The bulk of the wear is split between my tan sandals, tan booties, and brown boots, plus my running shoes and the flip flops or sandals I slip on to take out the trash. I start teaching in the classroom next fall, so then I plan to keep most of my heels in my office so that I can wear them for teaching but not for the walk to and from campus. This should drastically increase how much I wear my heels - right now they only come out for special occasions.

I have MANY pairs of shoes. I don't really want to count, but I have a lot. I love them.

I would have to say that honestly, 2 pairs get worn with real frequency. Another 3 see regular use. The rest are special or day off shoes.

Part of the reason for that is my work. I can't wear a heel, sandals, open toes or really anything other than a fairly sturdy shoe to work. Another reason for that is climate. I own a lot of sandals from back when I lived in Idaho. They don't see as much use here in the Seattle area.

All of my shoes are comfortable, however and had I the opportunities to wear them more often, could be all day shoes.

All of my shoes are extended wear shoes and boots (6 to 8 hours running around), except a pair of bronze peep-toe slingbacks with a 3" heel. I bought these for "evening /formal" shoes, and I have worn them extensively around the house to break them in (up to 8 hours, but they are still sitting shoes).
3 pairs "got the boot" (ha ha -- punny): black maryjane heels (2.5" heel), tan strappy wedge sandals (3.5" heel) and a silver vintage pair of 40s cage heels (2.5" heel, that are too narrow to wear, 8.5AAA). I bought the silver vintage heels on ebay b/c I really liked them but didn't consider that vintage shoes are often much narrower than modern shoes. They are in good condition and I could use them for home decor (heeheehee).

I wear all the flats (boots, sandals and ballet) most with neutrals being worn more often than the colors. Lastly come the bright colors and highest heels (again in all categories - boots, sandals, mules). When working, sneakers get daily wear but here in FL I'm finding ballet flats are my 'go to' since first buying them last fall. As it gets hotter and my ankle gets all healed - sandals will take the forefront.

I think what type of work you do has the biggest impact on footwear choices - I own exactly one pair of pumps that I bought specifically to job interview because I realized I did not own a single pair. I have yet to wear them!

My sandals can only be worn for certain periods of time, which is why I only have 3 pairs right now (a "gear" pair of Chacos, Indigo by Clarks Brulee low heeled wedges, and Kenneth Cole Cedar City heeled wedges.)

I have a couple of high heeled not-quite-orphans that I bought years ago because they were so very pretty... and unfortunately I discovered that they have to be resigned to sitting shoes.

Most of my pumps, booties, flats, and boots are worn frequently, though I have a couple of rogue pairs that aren't worn too often (a pair of heeled mary janes that have a buckle that is extremely tough to fasten; yellow canvas wedges that get dirty too quickly; heeled oxfords that are just not the right shape to be comfortable on my feet.)

I have two pairs of sitting party shoes - which means that I can walk around in them for 2 hours only (Kate Spade stacked heels). They get limited wear.

I have a few pairs of 4hour shoes, quite a few pairs of 6 and a large amount of 8 to 12 hour walking shoes.

When I talk about "8 hour shoes" - I mean that I can charge around town in them for 8 hours. I don't mean that they stay on my feet for 8 hours while I sit and do minimal walking. That, for me, is "a sitting shoe".

My entire boot collection gets the most wear - Fryes and SW in particular. All sorts of booties and boot lengths.

My low heeled pumps/mary janes and ballet flats are next in line.

My slingback wedges are next.

I have one pair of strappy sandals - that are very comfy, but hardly get worn. My feet get cold fast.

My slippers are worn extensively too.

It's very hard for me to part with comfortable shoes. I absolutely wear them into the ground.

Good question!

Except for when they are out of season the only part of my collection that doesn't get regular wear are my occasion shoes. All my other shoes I can wear all day. I don't have particularly fussy feet though.

Hope you don't mind me extending this rosee but I wondered of people shoes how many get regular wear and how many are orphans or ones that can only be worn for limited periods of time?

Out of my recently drastically reduced footwear collection I have 4 pairs which are dressy going out footwear this includes 1 pair of ankle boots, 2 pairs of shoes and a pair of sandals. So out of 15 pairs of the shoes the other 11 are ones I can wear all day with no rubbing other than 1 pair which I am still breaking in.

My recent cull came about because I realised that out of 41 pairs of shoes hardly any where 8 hour shoes! Most of the current shoes have been bought in the last 12 months x
