Thanks so much, Staysfit. I am pretty much a bag minimalist, but that doesn't mean my one bag couldn't be a LITTLE bit more interesting. (Although I do quite like my nondescript, utilitarian black bag!!!) I'm going to mull that one over to see how it might fit me.

Wow! You rock the Docs! I think you are on the right track for adding some color and pattern to your wardrobe. What sort of handbag do you carry? Is it also black? Maybe that is another place to add some additional interest.

You look so fabulous! Definitely seconding cindysmith about the Katherine Hepburn vibe. #2 is so New York.

#5 is a really cool styling choice, white boots with an otherwise black on black outfit looks super fresh.

I would also think yellow docs are hard to pull off, but you make it feel effortless. Loving the color in #3 and #4!

Long over wide looks stunning, and is my favorite silhouette on you.

You have a great sense of styling/proportion/color coordination, and I think you'll have a lot of fun with incorporating more colorful items into your wardrobe. Enjoy your style journey! I'm in a similar place (though different challenges), and YLF has been a huge inspiration to refresh my wardrobe and experiment in search of my personal style.

LOL -- thanks, neighbour! For me, the Zara pants in finds are just representative of the ones I got at Winners/Marshalls (who knows which). I think I like the Zara ones better. I haven't taken the tags off mine YET. Tried on a slightly bolder pair yesterday that didn't fit my waist.

The Cat -- blushing at the compliment.

Gitte certainly does have a lovely flair -- thanks so much for sharing! I'm still adapting to having limited footwear options (problem feet) so I'm relieved to get feedback that says my attempts to add interest in that department are effective. I guess I'm going to have to keep the Docs now (still at home in try-on/breaking in mode.) I will definitely keep experimenting. Not sure I could handle a head wrap (HEAT!), but never say never, right?!

torontogirl -- I hadn't really thought of it as a signature look, but I guess it is a formula that's taking shape! Thanks for the kind words.

Bijou -- thanks for the encouragement. I can definitely see how this site can help a gal get her mojo back!

First of all, you have a warm, charming smile--what a wonderful, personal accessory! (And it goes with all colours! )

Too much black easily gives a heavy, depressing or dull impression, so it's a good idea to mix your black items with lighter and brighter ones. I absolutely think you are on the right track with your prints, your white and yellow boots, and your light toppers. I love your windowpane checked pants, and you wear them gorgeously.

Your casually elegant uniform of long pants + long topper look great on you--and reminds me of one of the most elegant women I know, Gitte Lee. She is much older than you, but has a timeless style. You might enjoy taking a look at Gitte's uniform and style: https://www.advanced.style/201.....style.html

However, while the long elegant lines of your uniform have a lot in common with Gitte's, I think your style is more fun and playful than hers when it comes to colours, footwear, prints and accessories. And I encourage you to keep experimenting and having fun with such playful elements. How about trying some sort of hair wrap?

Wow - you really have pulled together some great outfits. You look good in the all black layered looks, but I much prefer #1,2,3 & 6 where you have colour. I particularly love the yellow docs - they look fantastic with your scarves.

This is definitely the place to come to get your mojo back. Post baby put me in a real style rut. The forum really helped me to feel like myself again. Over the last 5 years since participating in YLF, I have had the more fun with fashion than ever before.

Joyce B - thank you. I don't actually have a fab shoe collection yet, but I'm working on it. The Docs are home on a trial, as are the Eccos. Finding a fit is no easy feat. Pun intended.

Kellygirl -- much appreciated. Your column of black with the black and blue toppers inspired me to go for the wide leg pant and to try the Docs with them in place of sneakers for a work look. So thanks for that!!

Suz -- #9 is where I have been "living" for a very long time now. I can find toppers and scarves, but not so much actual tops. So I rely on a small core of "serviceable" black knit tops for the most part and am thinking scarves and toppers will have to stand in where others might opt for a more interesting tops. Scarves always fit. And when you can't wear a lot of conventional fashion, creative is kind of what's left. Thankfully, that has always been the look I wanted. I am just figuring out a different version of it now.

Sal -- you said it. I keep seeing looks the "old" (younger?) me would have loved. But, trying to focus on the today me.

Angie -- thank you for the kind and encouraging words. I'm still working on getting a fit in the Docs, but I think I have the right size in the yellow ones now at least. The white went back for now. I might need to get them in the 1460 instead of the Luana style. It is this forum that has encouraged me to give Docs a try!

Smittie -- you're too kind. Thank you.

suntiger -- thanks. I love that camel topper, and I found it at a great sale price when I wasn't even looking. It was the catalyst for a lot of the rest.

I like all these outfits but the ones with colour are more fun and show you off. I like black as a neutral too - practical, easy to find, flattering to start with. But the scarves and footwear and long toppers in colours make the outfits.

I love how you bookmark your scarves with your footwear -- that's a trick I like to use as well. It really creates cohesion.

Slim cat - thank you. I have a hard time finding tops that work, so I've shifted my focus to long toppers and scarves. I think I've bought 6 scarves in the last two weeks!

Liesbeth - yep. I like black, but realize it has gone from liking it to just hiding in it. Not wanting to draw any attention to myself because of my weight gain.

Notsaf - thanks for the kind words. I wondered if mixed mustard and camel was too much, but when I found the scarf I got excited.

Rachylou - I wasn't sure about windowpane either, but I had seen the killer look in finds and then saw these in Winners yesterday. And decided to bring them home for a test. They aren't quite as edgy as the finds but the price is right and they offer a small break from my sea of solid black bottoms.

Jane -- having to wear wide, flat shoes even at the office has required a major mindset. I think I like the way the boots peep out, too.

Jessikams -- 5'4 and very wide in the middle, so you just made my day!

Cindysmith -- I adore Katharine Hepburn, so I'm truly thrilled for that comparison. Have often wished for her lean angles!

ChristelJ -- rebirth is exactly the word. I do feel like I am trying to reinvent myself with this new set of parameters.

RobinF -- thanks. I feel like I'm flexing an atrophied muscle. Appreciate all the kind support.

Kkards -- I wasn't sure I could pull the yellow off with my gray hair, but I think tying it in with more neutral accessories is making it possible.

I truly appreciate all the generous comments and support. Feeling a bit vulnerable and trepidatious, but also feel it is time to come out of hiding.

I really like all of these but must say that the ones with color are much more interesting than the all black. The long cardigans look great on you and I like the way your scarves bring the colors together. Love the Docs too, now I want some! Keep doing what you’re doing, I think it’s working great.

I see only confidence and flair, fun and flattering outfits. Your footwear adds a terrific counterpoint to the sleek, long layers. If I looked that good in Docs I would make them signature.
I get the challenges of midlife; they can really throw you for a loop and force a rebirth of sorts. So glad you are able to enjoy your style again!

It looks to me like you are totally rocking long over wide! You must be tall, or just very well proportioned, because it looks elegant and you are carrying it off with panache.

These outfits are stunning. I love the layers and the colours, and the way the toes of the docs can be seen beneath the trousers. Nodding with you on the shoes an uncomfortable feet! Out of the office I only wear flat boots or trainers.

I think you look stunning and chic!. Black suits you, but I agree it's more dynamic with your awesome get hair if you have a little neutral contrast in a scarf, shoe, or topper. #1 is simple and perfect and #3 a little more dramatic. You look great!

Your style gene seems to be intact, I adore these combinations. You rock the docs. I understand you feel comfortable in all black but the outfits with touches of color and/or print are so much better imo, they show so much personality.

I think you are doing a great job of putting together fun outfits.
I like pics # 2,3 and 6 the best for mixing colors and prints ( lovely scarfs! ).
I like boots with wide leg pants and Ecco oxfords with straight pants - both should be good for office.
