I may have the same sweater that you are wearing in the first outfit...Gap?
It never occurred to me to try a belt with it. What Suz said.
Your flats in that outfit are perfect at bookending you’re hair. I like the mix of soft neutrals here.

The belt looks gorgeous on you, Synne. And the pattern mix is chic and sophisticated.

I love wide belts!

I think the problem with 1 is the knit is too bulky to be belted in that way. What you might try is wearing a more cropped knit and then semi tucking the knit in the front of the belt. Alternatively wear the belt over a finer knit or a jacket. Looks great with midi skirts. I like the column of colour you’ve got going.

The pattern mix in 2 is fun!

It’s good to experiment!

Agree about the experimentation being fun.
I don’t understand why you need the slip dress in outfit 1. You have really good legs and the sweater covers your bum?

You do the most original and interesting things. I like how you boss your clothes around! #1 is really cool and unique and very "you" -- the textures, the neutrals...I like it best with the belt. I think maybe the volume on the sleeves is what is catching you up a bit because otherwise, it looks fab!

The pattern mix is also wonderful, but then, I love everything with those neon shoes!

Thanks for the kind comments.

I think I am at the stage where I NEED to do this, go a little crazy and put my self out of my comfort zone, to get where I want to be with my style. How can I "arrive" with my style if I have no idea what suits me, what works for me, what makes me feel best? I have to do the field work. Living in my head has never solved any problems

I can conclude that these outfits are NOT how I want my style to be. Lesson learned.

I enjoy your adventures! I agree, the sweater is too chunky-knit for a belt, but looks really nice without it.

Would the pants work as a warm-weather capri style? Great pattern!

No big belts for #1 - however some statement earrings or some fun brooch/pendant could be fun addition ( earrings would be my choice since I've a lot of them ).
The second outfit is such an unexpected mix of classic ( or almost classic ) pieces.

I just started wearing belts myself after years of thinking they were off limits for me. In fact I just bought one quite similar to your belt in number #1. I agree that the sweater may be a bit too chunky for the belt. I’m finding that tonal belts often work well — they provide some structure but don’t break up the column of color.

I agree that #1 doesn't NEED a wide belt, but I don't see why you shouldn't keep trying it! I struggle with wide belts, too. I need one solid long line in one color in order to make it work, otherwise I look too blocky or segmented. I like #2 - it's really fun and I love seeing all the ways you've styled your neon! I am too chicken to wear neon.

I think you’re right #1 doesn’t need a belt. The sweater is chunky and you got to go with that; there’s no reining it in.

I do like a pattern mix re. 2, but admit the pants seem a little tight on the lower leg. Love the idea of a neon and check pants.

To your amusement, horror, or inspiration...

Two outfits from the last days. I thought I was being clever about these combinations, but the photos are HORRIBLE.

Now, I have came to understand that my Acchilles heel is wide belts. I keep buying them, thinking they are what one "should" have, easy ways to style up or down an outfit. But it just doesnt work on me.
The knit sweater is a tad too short on my frame, so I wore a satin slipdress as a layering piece. I think my body language tells how I felt when seeing my self in a full lenght mirror, hah.

Also, a new pattern mix. The pants are ridicilously short on me, although I love this cigarette trouser/ankel grazing style. Will only buy exclusively tall-sizes from now on.

Okay, onwards. Still enjoying dressing and style, despite some bumps in the road :-D

Have a great weekend, friends!
