That is an interesting idea, Krish. I'm coming up with an almost even split between As and Cs as a secondary characteristic (after a very slight prefference for Bs). C wins just slightly. The dressing advice for shapes and textures is pretty spot on for Soft Naturals, but the accessories, hair and colors aren't.

Suz-- you may have a point there -- I think I have the A-type frame, but am curvy and have a good dose of curvy facial features.

Or, Elly -- maybe Soft Dramatic. That is what Sveta typed herself to be. And it pretty much works for her!

Your links to Kibbe are much better than other ones I've seen. I have a really hard time with it. I redid it and I also came out as soft natural--- but you and I are about as far from each other as possible on the spectrum except for being hourglassy. I find I mostly fit into the natural category, but not by a large proportion and then that all my secondaries are split between completely opposite sub-types. I'm both dramatic coloring, harsh lines, and soft curves both in my face and body.

Krish, you look amazing! No question about that.

As for Kibbe-categorizing, I think it is super, SUPER difficult. Very tough to judge ourselves. I have been going through a re-evaluation of my own type based on something Alexandra said a while ago, and some of my own outfits.

To me honest, if I were guessing, I would still put you firmly in the gamine category. Not only because of your size and height, but also because of your animation, verve, and humour.

I am not sure which gamine you would be. Alexandra has been typed as a "flamboyant" gamine. And Kibbe apparently took away his core gamine category, leaving only two -- (flamboyant and soft) -- and I am not sure why.

In the end, it doesn't much matter if you are dressing well and having fun. You're looking amazing these days, and your outfits feel congruent with your overall physical presence. This, to me, is what we aim for in this typology stuff to begin with. So you are rocking it, whatever you call yourself! :)

It's fun to see how different you look from a year ago, although of course you look great in all the pics!

I've tried to look at the Kibbe stuff a few times and the quiz always confused me. I assumed I'd probably be a Romantic because, well, that seems like the obvious category for short, curvy people with big eyes and ridiculous thick hair. But the suggestions for what Romantics should wear just seemed a little over-the-top and high-maintenance for me, so I never cared enough to let my supposed type influence what I look for.

Anyway, the last time it came up, I started wondering if I'm actually an especially soft Soft Natural. And it's interesting that a few of your recent outfits, especially #1 and #8, look like things I could easily see myself wearing slight variations on.

Interesting to revisit this -- and to see not only your style but your perceptions shift over time, Krishnidoux! I never did draw any kind of conclusions from my quiz and rather elusive results. I agree with the others who say that it's not so easy to evaluate oneself! And then to actually apply a "type" to some sort of style seems like a lot of work...well, let's just say I'll continue to follow my instincts. But I do think it's an interesting exercise and if it helps anyone, I think that's great!

Josie, what a great question... thank you so much for provoking me int re-doing the test. .

First, this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx4Hjq6KwO0

I have been going through deep change in the last year, since this thread was originally started. I lost weight, I now realize, and my hair is completely different. So I just re-did the Kibbe test and... to my surprise... I am not soft gamine anymore but, if I believe the results, Flamboyant Natural or Soft Natural. After reading both descriptions, however, I identify much more to the Soft Natural look, and by far.

Flamboyant Natural:

"Strong, straight bone structure that is elongated, wide, or broad; body type tends to muscular width or sinewy length; facial bones are strong and prominent but widely blunt or asymmetrical (not narrow and sharp); facial features are strong but narrow (not round and lush). "

As you can see, not me at all.

Soft Natural:

"Soft body type that tends toward fleshiness and curve, particularly in the upper arm/thigh and hip area (may become extremely soft when overweight); softly angular bone struicture that tends towards soft width or a slight elongation; facial bones are very full, very soft, and somewhat rounded. "

"Your silhouette is soft, flowing and unconstructed, composed of relaxed lines with soft edges (...)
A loose, uncluttered approach to detail expresses your fresh femininity quite succinctly."

From the recent pics below, would you agree?

Hmm... I just took the quiz too, and also found it extraordinarily hard to assess myself. That said, I came up very slightly in the "natural" category above everything else. (And reading the suggestions, I suspect that I am a "natural", not even a Flamboyant or Soft Natural).

I think I like it. Thank you for the link - I'll be looking more into this concept!

The pictures of you transforming your clothes are fascinating! I have read the Kibbe book and was intrigued, although I also got stuck on my label. It is hard to self-assess! I completely agree that rules, especially rules that counter your previous notions, can be much more liberating than absolute freedom.

Janet, this thread speaks about that:
http://seasonalcolor.yuku.com/.....SrPDqWzenY
They seem to call the D category "Ingénue".

Like Suz, I also had to take the test a few times before realizing I was Soft Gamine. I had such fixed ideas about my style... and didn't think it had anything to do with my body structure: au contraire!

Runcarla, I have found this guide to help me with new purchases, and so far it has worked. I have been using most of my recent purchases right away, whereas usually it takes a while for me to fully integrate a new piece to my wardrobe. And it has helped me look at my existing wardrobe with different eyes. I find I am pairing things together I didn't think of as going together, but it works!

Jenava, me too! That is what it is doing to me. Letting go of cumbersome rigid ideas I thought I had to live up to while dressing. So even though they are categories, the Kibbe method has been liberating, not restraining.

Suz, yes, it has helped a lot. I agree the pants should be more tapered. I might get alterations. I agree with your analysis on the difficulties to apply it, at first. However Kibbe's descriptions, even if passé, are very complete and that was helpful to me, to get a mental visualization. Then when I tried elements of my own wardrobe but differently, I started to have a mental picture of what Soft Gamine looks translated on me.

I tried taking that quiz and am now thoroughly confused. I come up with a lot of D answers, and there is no description for that. Anyone see something I'm missing? I am really not familiar with this system and it's seems quite complex.

YAY!! I am so excited to see this. I remember really wondering if this would be useful to you, and I'm so glad it has been. I completely agree -- a bit of a heel and the sight of your ankle improves the look. If you tapered them I think it would be even better. Love your new leather skirt and the outfits with the moto and the skirt and booties. I think you are finding your sweet spot.

I found Kibbe very useful, too. I had to do the test a bunch of times. I kept disbelieving it. And some of it is difficult to understand -- because he is referring to 80s shapes and cuts which have changed a bit, in part, but also because his terminology can be tough to interpret. Anyway, I came out a Dramatic Classic. Recognizing this has been key for me as well. I already knew what colours flattered me. But I didn't understand what lines and what type of detailing would be best. Now I get it, and it is making my shopping life a lot easier.

I am having so many epiphanies this weekend! Did the test and came up with 'natural' and no real modifiers. The style advice confirmed some things I already 'knew' but maybe was fighting against?!

Your own exploration has demonstrated how to apply the concepts while working with what I already have, and will inform future purchases when I am ready to start shopping again.

I am Soft Classic...this really was an eye opener for me, as well. It gave me permission to completely let go of my yearning for hard, sharp clothing and just embrace soft, drapy and flowy. It sounds like you are making some good progress with this as well - the pants are so much cuter with the heels and the roll, although to your point I'd like to see them rolled down and with a tighter, smaller roll.

Sveta, thanks for the link. Yes, Soft Dramatic does sound like you. I have tried the cropped pants and it works well in a Audrey Hepburn way only with tapered legs and feminine shoes such as ballet or heels. I was astonished that shortening the leg is actually more flattering! I think I am the physical opposite of you.

Beth Ann, thanks for your feedback. It is interesting that you prefer 4 over 5. Sometimes less is more.

Ah, we had a whole thread on Kibble thing - was it last year? Or earlier? time really flies!
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....you-denise
Anyway Denise mentioned Kibble in on of the comment on my post, I went to read it and was completely hooked. It was a real eye opening for me and really helped me to understand the style I strive for. I came up as a Soft Dramatic and it all clicked together for me. As you I understood better why I feel fab in some outfits but not in others...
Anyway, back to you I think Soft Gamine fits you perfectly! I like how you interpreted these outfits for your style - brilliant! Actually I think your type is perfect to wear cropped tapered pants, have you tried them?

MsMaven: it's because it's not black, but navy!
Ariadne: Keep reading, you'll see, there are some eye opening notions even if it looks dated.

Thank you both for your feedback.

Wow, so interesting! I like the outfits you put together. #7 is my fave. LOVE that moto! I'd be inclined to leave off the necklace in outfit 10--it's very ALGO, which I don't generally associate with your looks, if I'm recalling correctly. Amazing skirt.

I did the quiz and came back with "Soft Classic" as my result. I read some of the suggestions and many of them seemed to fit with what I already know looks conventionally flattering on me. Some of the ideas seemed pretty dated, though.

Thanks for showing us this interesting process. I love the finished result in # 7-8, and I usually don't like mustard and black together, but this is great. #10-11 is fabulous, well worth the effort the effort.

My experience is that trying on clothes in different versions and then photographing the results is an exhausting process. This series is inspirational.

Recently I did Kibbe's quiz
http://seasonalcolor.yuku.com/.....Sp30KWzenY
to help me better define my style according to my body line and bone structure. So it turns out I am a Soft Gamine. This has helped me a great deal in crafting outfits. I have changed the way I look at clothes on me. I thought I would share a couple of examples.

First, this old pair of Talbots navy blue "marine" pants. Although the bottom hem is not the newest style, I kept them for how they fit around the waist and thighs. It is so hard for me to find pants that agree with my body type.

Pic 1: how they fit as they are, worn with loafers.

Pics 2-3: how I would have styled them before. I thought this was appropriate and "good taste": minimum of detailing, conservative flat shoes, straight jacket (literally!). But I was NOT excited about this look at all. And therefore almost never wore these.

Pic 4: Kibbe for Soft Gamine advises more details: " Your silhouette is animated and staccato, composed of clean curves with sharply tailored nips and tucks at strategic edges. Your shapes are rounded, but they are crisp and formed, kept close to the body, as opposed to softly flowing. The sharp edges are always present through the shoulders, as well as tapering at the cuff, the collar, the waist, and the knee, and in detail such as pleat, plackets, and lapels. Likewise, it's always best to keep a well-defined waist."

So I swapped the shoes for cute heels, and rolled the hems... and voilà! Although I am not 100% happy with how the hems look in these pics (I think I rolled them too large and one roll too many), I think these pants look 100% on me, and despite my short legs and long torso! The difference, I think, comes from the fact that my body contour suddenly appears. Happiness factor: 100%. Let's dress up the look:

Pic 5: With a simple flower print scarf tied like Angie, infinity style and then rolled and puffed. I notice it makes me look longer. Still happy.

Pic 6: With an emerald green jacket and my Lauren Birch bag. Happy, but I also feel I look a bit too much like my mother... may be the jacket, because she used to dress in these vibrant colours.

Pic 7: With my mustard moto jacket, leopard print scarf and navy blue heart shape bag. Happier.

Pic 8: The only bad note with this last outfit is that my jewellery is all gold and the bag's detailing is silver, and that bothers me. I need more bags!

Second, a leather skirt I bought in consignment.

Pic 9: How I would have worn it before. I thought black leather demanded black accessories. And I own LOTS of those. But I also already have a black leather skirt from Danier that I had paid full price and that I almost never wear. This one, with its motif... it's totally different. I've already worn it 4-5 times since I got it 2 weeks ago. Not bad! But not like this.

Pics 10-11: Like that. It took me some time to create this outfit, trying literally everything in my wardrobe with it until I was happy with every detail. This outfit provides me with 100% happiness. Finally I found it looks much better with accessories other than black. These Joseph Seibel brown booties make it look less severe and more fun. A grey turtle neck is more casual, but I also added the grey necklace to break up the long line a turtle neck gives to the torso, and mine already being long... I added an elastic belt to bring the waist up. And a jean jacket is also more casual, bringing it to day wear.

What do you think?

Thanks for looking!
