On the bra tops, my three favorite brands are Onzie (from their website—Nordy’s doesn’t carry much of their line), Prana, and Zella. I have tops with shelf bras from the first two which work well for my wide-set size Bs, and the Zella ones don’t have wires but have more separate cups. If I was looking now, I’d also check out Champion. You might want to take a look at elpgal’s recent post on gymwear in general.

For the bralettes, if you want more suggestions, check out Sarah08’s recent thread. She says she’s wide-set as well.

I'd recommend thirdlove for the bralette. I have always had success with their well made Bralette styles :)

Updating to add that I had very good luck with the bralettes that just arrived from Lively. I'm 32D/34C and the mediums fit well. Lovely, soft fabrics, nice design details like, and great fit. I'm very happy with these and hope they wear well.

Meanwhile, still on the search for athletic tops with an integrated bra for low-impact activity: any more suggestions?

Thanks for all the advice! I would never have thought to look at Aerie. I've put in an order at Lively, but if that fails will look into some of the other options you all mentioned.

Funny that integrated athletic bra-top are just not so popular anymore!

I’m going to add my vote for Aerie bralettes as well! For certain styles they have d and dd cup versions which is super nice because it means I don’t have to size up and risk the band being too big.

I also have a couple of these which are super comfy although not very supportive (I do wear them out and about a lot, but I realize I care about support/boosting power much less than many people).
https://www.felina.com/product.....DiEALw_wcB

Someone mentioned Knix above and I also have a couple of their bras which are pretty nice. I’d call them somewhere in between a bralette and a sports bra in terms of support, so it’s more than I’d like some days but useful nevertheless.

(For the record I don’t think I’ve worn an underwire bra in a year!)

Can’t help with the bra tops unfortunately. I never find that they fit all that well - to be honest I prefer to just wear a regular sports bra with or without a looser top over.

Have you looked at Negative Underwear for bralettes? They use gorgeous fabrics and have nicely designed wireless options. Lively might be worth a look too.

It’s been a long time since I wore a bra-top, but I used to love the ones from Prana. I almost ordered the Everlane Perform Cami when they released it, but I decided I’m too devoted to my merino bralettes to go back to synthetic.

I just ordered two bralette/soft bras from jockey to try. I will report back on what they are like. They should arrive this week.
I have also heard good things about knix and Tilley but no first hand experience.
The first pic is from Tilley and the second two are the jockey.

Seconding Aerie for bralettes. I’ve also had luck with Free People and Victoria’s Secret, though that was a few years ago.

I'm a 34C-D. All my bralettes are from Aerie. They really do know what they're doing in that regard! (Though I am not a fan of their undies).

Can't help on the exercise bras, as I hate shopping for them. I do have one or two from Old Navy that fit well, but I had to size up and try them on in the store. But I rarely wear them these days.

What I'm wearing instead, for hikes (not jogging or anything involving jumping up and down!), is the Allbirds merino bras. They are supportive "enough" for walking/hiking. And warm but cool, though I still sweat around the elastic bra band. I wouldn't wear them to jog or do high impact aerobics though. They are also great for just laying around the house or other pandemic home activities. Comfy!

Free People has a lot of wire-free barrettes that are lacy. They have tons of styles. I think Madewell may have some also, but I haven't tried them.

You could maybe check out Zella (a Nordstrom house brand) for a tank with a built-in sports bra.

Thanks, Angie! I mean tank top that has a built-in bra -- should have been clearer! I used to see these all the time, and now they don't seem as popular.

I LOVE my Wacoal sports bra. It can become crisscross at the back. Best on the planet, and I’ve tried sooo many.

Hi again!

I'm in need of some recommendations for two basics in my wardrobe that need a refresh: everyday bralettes and active wear bra-tops.

For the bralette, I prefer something soft, unlined, and unwired. Lace and mesh are appealing. This is an item I wear everyday.

For the bra-top, I prefer criss-cross straps and a light lining or thicker material for modesty. This is something I will use primarily for Pilates and yoga.

I have a slim ribcage, an average-width back, a C-D cup (depending on the time of the month), and wide-set breasts. If this sounds anything like you, and you have any recommendations, please let me know!
