Pearl earrings will forever be a timeless classic for sure. The earrings purchased from the craft fair/s sound intriguing! Care to share some photos?

I wear pierced earrings daily, and 75% of the time it's pearl earrings. The rest of the time it's something I've purchased at an artisan craft fair.

Sterling, just as some women don't wear skirts, there are some women who don't wear piercings. They probably all have their reasons, which may seem perfectly natural to themselves, though possibly surprising or strange to others.

Hi The Cat. I agree this was a fascinating thread. Although I respect your decision to not pierce your ears, I cannot begin to say how happy I am that my Mother decided to pierce mine when I was young. I will always adore earrings.

The truth be told. I will likely never have a second set of piercings. I am genuinely afraid of the perceived pain and I feel my ear lobes are just too tiny to make it look good. But I do wear earrings every single day for every single activity. I am happy.

Mon, thanks. No hard feelings here. We are just different. And one of the great things about this forum is the possibility to exchange views with people representing a variety of backgrounds (age, culture, education, experiences, lifestyle, health condition, economy, preferences, and so on).

Personally, I find it extra interesting to read about people's REASONS for wearing - or not wearing - certain items or styles. We may not agree with, or feel inspired by, others' choices. Anyway, their statements may broaden our horizons a bit and make us reflect on factors we had not considered before.

Thank you for starting a thread on earrings, which are among the favourite accessories of so many of us.

Great thread, Mon. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

I love my pierced ears. As I may have mentioned I got them pierced when I was quite young and have no memory of any pain or discomfort. AND NOW that I know about cartilage piercings, I doubt I would EVER do that.

I have a large earring collection that I wear daily (I don't feel dressed until I put in my earrings). I personally find that I wear the earrings that are subtle the most. My absolute favorite pair of earrings are tiny pearl stud I bought years ago. They were a financial stretch for me at that time. I have since bought bigger and better pearls, yet that first pair speaks to my heart and they will always be my favorite.

But I am always on the hunt for more earrings. I recently spent two and half weeks in Arizona. I saw some gorgeous turquoise earrings that I should have bought, BUT I still had more shops to browse. I didn't buy them thinking I might find others I liked even more. I didn't and now I regret not running back to buy them.

Sigh. Lesson learned.

Based on this thread, I am seriously considering having a second piercing. Both ears for symmetry. My problem is that my lobes are so tiny, the second set has to be placed carefully to make it look right.

Question for you. I find that if I do not wear earrings every single day, my holes start to "close" up. Is that really a thing???? It seems like they should be solidly established.

Oh Cat! You soooo should of had them pierced! (no peer pressure ...)
I believe that any quality jewellery from a jeweller or the likes (silver, gold, etc.) would be perfectly suitable for wear without aggravating an allergy. Please forgive me if I am wrong, though I totally think you should revisit the idea!

Oh, sure, I HAVE considered having my ears pierced, especially in a case when a man surprised me by giving me pearl studs. - Surprising, indeed, as he KNEW that I didn't have the slightest wish to get piercings in my ears or any other parts of my body. Quite the contrary. I have never wanted to conscientiously damage my body in any way.

After having considered the matter for a few days, I decided that I was not ready for making neither the man, the pearls nor the possible holes in my ears a part of the rest of my life. So I returned the pearl studs, and we had a long conversation ... (In case you wonder: I consider this to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. My only regret is that I didn't make it much earlier. I had a difficult time even after the decision was made, but looking back now, I realize how much certain wise choices have contributed to a happy and meaningful life.)

I am "perfectly content" (as you put it, Mon) with my freedom to wear - or to refrain from wearing - earrings whenever I want to. My only concern is nickel allergy, but so far, I have had no trouble when following the strategy of not wearing earrings all day long and not wearing the same pair day after day.

Luckily, I have relatively big ear lobes, perfect for wearing clip-ons. And (as also mentioned in a previous comment), tiny earrings simply don't harmonize with neither my proportions nor my style preferences.

Be careful with nose studs. I know from former colleagues with nose studs that when you are having a cold, things will run out of that extra hole, too. Not very pleasant for neither others nor yourself ...

Totally! I have a wee little emerald about that size and it can be really cute up close but otherwise is so unobtrusive. Then when I want a little more oomph I put in the small hoop. Or a slightly larger stud I have.

Thank you, Mon. It's a cuff but there is an earring tucked in there kinda under/beside it that is an actual piercing and it's no joke, cartilage piercings can be brutal right there. It took probably a year to heal and even now, certain earrings make it really tender. I think you could wear tiny hoops or studs or mismatched studs in an upper hole and be elegant or quirky and playful. :)

I am in my early 40s and I have had my piercings a long while but if I didn't, I wouldn't hesitate at my age to get them now!

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Sterling, I had my second holes done at a place called "Skin Candy" in Australia (super edgy name, I know :p). I do think I will return when I go for the third set as the staff were super friendly and though it may not be the most super sophisticated establishment, I definitely left satisfied :)

The truth is though, go where you feel most comfortable. I think you should run the idea past your friend at work if you feel like she would do the good job! I look forward to hearing an update!

For years I had only one piercing in each ear, and then maybe five years ago I decided to do a second piercing, in only one ear. I did the one ear intentionally because I wanted something a little edgy. I enjoy the asymmetry.

Hi Sterling,
I personally love having my second holes pierced now, and plan to go to have my third holes pierced in the near future (perhaps I missed the "piercing train" during my High School years...).

The actually piercings themselves don't hurt much at all, for me the worst part was how loud the "CLICK" was on the gun my piercer used (I guess this varies depending on what system your pierced uses). I would definitely recommend you have your second holes done if you have a love for earrings!

I adore earrings. I wear them every single day for every single activity (except sleep). I have one piercing per ear, which was done when I was quite young. I would like a second set of holes, but as an adult, I admit to fright.

I have a really nice assortment of earrings, including studs and dangles. I don't wear dangles that are longer than the length of my hair. I wear real and synthetic jewels.

I have no piercings. (My earlobes are perfect, so why ruin them? ) And as I have a nickel allergy, I follow my doctors' advice about not wearing earrings all the time. I do, however, wear earrings for some hours several times a week.

I prefer wearing medium or big earrings. Tiny studs often look fine on others, especially petites, but would "disappear" on me. It is a matter of proportions. When trying small earrings, I have always found that they make my nose and ears look even bigger than they are. Besides, I think small earrings look outright dull on me.

Some of my earrings are coloured stones or metals, and I also have big white pearls. But most are in silver or silver-looking materials. I will happily wear silver earrings for any occasion.

Hi Gigi,

Have you ever considered having your second hole pierced on your left ear? Or do you prefer the asymmetrical look?

I have a second piercing in my right ear. I generally wear either a small diamond stud or a small pearl stud in it.
