I'm confused as well. I was under the same impression as JG. The second pants I linked to do not widen at the hem, so I'm not sure how they can be considered boot cuts or even remotely resemble flare legs, or why BR would file them under straight legs if that were the case. I realize they are not cigarette-style straight pants like the first pair, but they're definitely narrower than these:

I used to like myself in wide legs, and now I'm not so sure. I do have one pair, but my favorite "dress" pants for work are my Club Monaco micro check straight leg pants. I want to duplicate that fit in either black or a dark check.
I think on me I prefer straight leg, then boot cut, then skinny, then flare or wide leg.

I prefer bootcuts & widelegs for office/dressy wear. I like how they balance out my top half (I am an inverted triangle) and I love how a wide leg looks with heels - makes me feel tall! I am realizing, however, that many of my wide leg & bootcut pants were perhaps a little too wide and that a slimmer cut in the thighs with the flare at the bottom is more attractive. I guess that is what some retailers are now calling modern leg?

After trying all kinds of cuts of pants - bootcut, flare, wide, straight, skinny - straight legs and slim bootcuts are fast becoming my favourites. They just seems flattering all over and I can still wear my heels. Dress them up or down, sober them for work or glam them up for play, they are so versatile. I love skinnies on others and maybe one day I will be able to wear them well.

Angie, I was thinking a boot cut was straighter through the leg & then the bottom after the knee flared out to boot. Is that not true? Please help me understand. Thanks!

I'm like Kristen, I prefer a wider length pant or a bootleg for work, especially with heels.

Straight legs on me only seem to work with a longer length top, which means no shirts.

For wearing at the office with heels, I prefer a bootcut or a wide-leg. I like the way they flow around my legs when I walk, and they seem dressier. Also, because I will wear 3-inch heels at work, that extra material down there softens the look so the heel doesn't seem as...threatening, I guess. (People get weirded out when I wear my heels sometimes.)

Hmm, that may be my problem with my dress pants these days for flats; I am still looking for the bootcuts, but the extra material is dragging me down without the heel height to compensate. *penny drops* I think my next work pants for flats will be a straight leg, just to compare.

For home, I am totally sold on the straight-leg jeans. Love love love love beyond reason, for pants and heels.

I am getting less keen on bootcuts. I have noticed I often keep my bootcut jeans on round the house instead of changing the minute I get home so as to preserve them.
Mind you my new _trousers_ are still quite wide.

JG, that's not a straight leg actually. That’s a full blown boot cut that's verging on a flare leg. (Maya’s #2 picture). I’d love to see pics of the cuts you like best!

I like skinnies first and straight legs/cigarette styles as a close second. I like slim boot cuts third and do not wear anything wider. It’s interesting how I love volume everywhere but around my legs unless they are slouch boots.

As I had mention in my latest thread - I love trouser jeans, somehow I like how they look on my figure, paired with short jackets.Straight or skinny jeans always make me feel top heavy. The narrower the leg the longer the top I need to make me feel comfy.Trouser jeans usually don't have pockets in the back so you don't have to worry how they are sitting on your bum, which I also like.

Interesting Maya - I'm probably not describing the leg well enough then because I think after the tailor is done with them they will more closely resemble the line of the 2nd pair you linked to - I guess it would technically be straight but it seems to be a clean line all the way down but the leg itself is actually fuller than what I consider a traditional straight leg. I did try the 1st BR pair but they seemed to snug of a fit on my legs.

While I don't like skinny jeans, I do like skinny pants, like these:

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....=687156012

Those are my preference, but something like this is fine too (if it has some other interest, like the micro check pants that everyone has):

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....=619496002

I feel dumpy and overly conservative in wide legs and trousers (though I like trouser jeans). They are not flattering on me and it's hard to get them to reflect my personality.

I have also gradually been less attracted to bootcuts and flares as I just don't like the break at the knee. I prefer jeans and pants that just have one clean line all the way down.

What is your preference for any every day pant for work (with heels) & why?

I've always worn a straight leg & am being drawn to a wider leg. (I know, it's probably time huh?! Anyway, I picked up some of the BR martin fit I think it is. They have what they refer to as a "sexy flare leg" - it was just too wide for me. So, I took them into the tailor. If he takes out 2-3 inches it's going to more closely resemble a regular flare or bootcut I think. Anyway, I'm curious. What is your preference & why? I think my eye is starting to adjust. I picked up the ATL cords in the Modern Boot cut as well & LOVE those!
