Love their silk shirts. They have a lot of items I would consider getting as wardrobe staples.

Still trying to figure out how to wear their sleeveless stuff, however.

Just got an email from Everlane with the new silk colors for the silk tank. They are... tan and brown. BOO. So no silk tank for me right now. I hope this is not indicative of the coming season's colors.

Diana, thanks for this review. I am still finding out what Everlane is all about--after reading about it so often here on the forum (now they've found me on Facebook and I get their ads there, showcasing a very inviting ribbed sweater). I suppose I might have missed the try-on but I'll keep an eye out for more.

Una, yeah, they're definitely basics. But sometimes I feel like my closet is sorely lacking in basics. And black tees are one of my wardrobe essentials, so even though I don't need any right now, I'm really glad I tried and liked this one. These are definitely items that I'd mix with my statement pieces.

The home try-on options were all neutrals, which probably contributes to the effect as well.

Thanks for doing this! What strikes me is how basic all these items are -maybe in contrast with your usual style which always has some extra flair. They are plainer than I expected. I think you may have saved me an order.

Great review, Diane. Love the sleeveless tank on you..definitely look for another color. I got the same tank, but it hits me at an awkward spot so back it goes.
I was impressed with the quality of the pieces. I may keep one of the cashmere sweaters. Loved the sleeveless blouse, but that color doesn't work for me at all.

The fabric felt to me like it could handle being washed. I hand wash most of my other silk items, with minimal agitation - basically just dump it in a sink full of cold soapy water, push it around a bit and take it out, and either drip dry or dry flat. Most people say not to soak silk - I'm not sure why exactly - but a quick dip is generally OK.

Carter, for what it's worth, I've machine-washed my Everlane silk sleeveless button down (and hung it to dry) with no problems yet. I'm trying to get in the habit of drycleaning, though, after other shirts didn't hold up well. I'm about to order a duplicate of that shirt and keep it dry clean only.

So excited to get my order. I ordered most of the same items as you...tee, silk sleeveless blouse, silk tank. Can't remember if the cashmere sweater was still in my cart when I ordered. I've had a few follow-up emails from them already...a couple regarding the order itself. A couple answering a question I had about whether the silk is truly DCO...the answer came back, "spot clean with damp rag, do not submerge, DCO as needed."

Rachy, I thought about that but it's just high enough that it'll show a teeny sliver of my stomach, which I am not down with at all. Most of my pants are lower rise than the pair I'm wearing here. I do leave the bottom button unbuttoned on longer shirts, but I gotta admit it annoys me to not have the option to button it.

Kkards, right now the tank only is available in black, white, and grey. I don't really need another black or white tank. But maybe they'll come out with more colors for spring.

diane, thanks so much for the review. i have the vneck tee, and the v hits me just so...no real cleavage, but not really covered (does that make sense?) anyway, i always wear a cami, so that i don't have to worry. i bought one of the cashmere sweaters this december, and i love it. as you say, great sweater for the price. i haven't tried the silks yet, but they are on my list for spring, as are the loafers.
BTW, i do hope you reorder #6 (silk tank) in another color, because i love the way this looks on you!

Last week JayS alerted us to the fact that Everlane was doing a home try-on promotion for new customers. I've always wanted to try their silk blouses but since I have so many fit issues with blouses in general I've never pulled the trigger. The home try-on was a great way to try things on with no commitment.

I found the site very well-designed and easy to use/order from. The shipping was amazingly fast (I ordered on Friday, got it on Monday) and the packaging was simple and nice. Not everything was available for the promotion (understandable as I imagine it's only things they have a decent stock of) and the colors were limited, mostly black, white, and grey.

These are the things I tried. Full disclosure, I am sending it ALL back, although I am considering ordering a couple things in a different color. Sorry the photos are bad, it was dark! Also note I am wearing a black, lace bra here so that's probably the bust area looks a little crinkly in some pictures.

1: black v-neck tee, size M. I don't really need any more tees but this one was nice. I'll consider Everlane when I need to restock on black tees. It was true to size (I also tried L - not pictured - and it was too big and sloppy.) The cotton was nice and it didn't cling or ride up at the bottom (a big issue for me). The V is borderline too low - you can see cleavage - but remember my upper body is VERY short.

2-3: silk round collar blouse, size L (grey, #2) and M (black, #3). Same problem I always have with blouses - I need to size up to not have the bottom button pull but then the top is a little too big. The chest did not pull on either size. Nevertheless I think the larger size is fine here because it's drapey and soft. The silk was nice and a good thickness; it's kind of a brushed silk, similar to equipment but thinner. I disliked this grey color on me but I might get it in a different color. For some reason the grey had a covered button placket and the black had exposed buttons. I personally prefer the exposed ones but that's just personal taste.

4-5: silk sleeveless blouse, size L (4) and M (5). They *both* pull at the bottom and the L is clearly too big in the armholes and shoulders. Too bad, because this was nice. The material is slightly silkier and less brushed than the long-sleeved blouse. My black bra doesn't actually show much, so you can get an idea of the silk thickness from that.

6: silk tank, size M. I liked this a lot except for the color. The hip is flared so no need to size up.

7: cashmere v neck sweater, size M. I don't need another cashmere sweater, but I ordered this to try just because I was curious about the quality of their cashmere. It was nice! The cashmere was soft and it was reasonably dense (which is good for durability as well as warmth). Not as nice as my old $$$$ Kinross sweater but much nicer than my cheap Uniqlo cashmere. I think it's a good value for $128. I thought this ran a little big/long and I'd probably size down if I were to buy it. I don't like my cashmere too oversized because it's so soft it looks sloppy easily.

I'm glad I tried this! I would definitely consider getting the silk shirt in the larger size and the silk tank if they came in colors I liked (unfortunately there are none right now). I don't need them right now, but the tee and cashmere sweater are nice too.
