Fluid track pants and some oversized knitwear fit the bill for me, also clutches that initially seemed impractical have earned a place in my wardrobe for how they amp up a look.

Booties with skirts for me too! And high-vamped shoes in general. I've always felt like I've been consigned to the lowest of low vamps, especially with skirts and dresses, because I'm so short, but it seems like it's much easier to find shoes that don't just feel blah and repetitive if I look at higher vamps too. So now I have slipper flats, booties, and high-vamped sandals that I wear a lot with skirts and dresses and I have a feeling I'll get more. I'm even thinking about slip-on sneakers. (Sporty and high-vamped -- what is this world coming to?)

White bottoms (thanks to all the gentle encouragement by Angie in her "How to" posts) - I now have white shorts, a white midi skirt & white bootcut trousers!

And now Crop Tops! I like the new boxy, oversized tops that are available in the market... somehow the oversized fit makes the "cropped" bit less in your face sexiness..

Lyn*, no way! That is too funny. The same goes for you, TraceyLiz...I can't imagine you without your skirts!

I have been a little reluctant to try the boyfriend jeans trend...not sure why. I think maybe I am thinking it will be a little too casual for me (I tend more toward dressy, even with casual wear). But reading the responses of all those who listed BFs makes me think maybe they are worth a try. (I did try on only one pair, but they were a size too big, plus the SA told me they ran large...so to be fair, I really can't count that.)

Interesting that there are a couple of "harem pants" responses. :^) I'm scared to try harem pants...because what if I like them?! They are way outside my comfort zone. Even more than bootcuts, maybe! I might have to go to a therapist if I try them and like them, because that will involve a serious inner upheaval! Ha ha.

I *do* like booties with skirts and dresses. I'm still experimenting with it, though. When you're short, it seems like you have to get the proportions just right so you don't look stumpy. But I don't mind the challenge...just takes a while to figure it out. I have fun in the process!

Annie, I have shied away from pastels for years. They generally make me look washed out. But I so gravitate toward them instinctually come spring, regardless. I did try a few pastel-colored items this year; unfortunately, they didn't fit and had to be sent back. But I'll keep trying. I'm glad that you have found a new color that works great with your complexion! Sometimes different things just take a while getting used to.

Angie, you look great in blush. I'm glad you took the plunge and tried it. I ordered a pair of shimmery blush jeans from WHBM, but they didn't fit properly and had to be sent back. :^( The color was marvelous.

Since joining YLF, I am becoming more open-minded about trying things that I have previously dismissed. For example, I never gave pastel colors a second thought because I always thought they were too girly and sweet. But the other day I tried on the Gap Marled Sweater in lemon yellow that Angie recommended, and I was pleasantly surprised at how it flatters my complexion and looks so fresh against my neutral bottoms! I will definitely try different colors, cuts, and silhouettes from now on.

I thought maxi dresses would be overwhelming for my petite height and busted that belief and am now a fan... I too also thought booties with dresses would shorten my leg line, but if I have tights the same color as the boots, it works and I love it.

For me it is the pointy toe shoes. I had one pair of those very long pointy toe heels several years ago, and hated them after the first wearing. so was reluctant to try them this time around, but ordered a pair of pointy toe flats and love them. they are not as extreme as the ones back then, and although they are foot elongating, it is not a problem. Now my round toe heels look stumpy, so have pointy toe pumps, and I like the pointy look now.

What Suja said! With my short (isn) legs, booties and skirts may not be not the most figure flattering look. I confess, it scared me. Yet it works for my life and my climate, and I love it.

Most of the other trends I've tried, I've liked pretty much from the get-go, although I might have worried about how to style them. I'm thinking BF jeans; fluid fit; oversize fits (I am cautious with the latter); pointy toed footwear.

Yes! I originally thought booties looked unflattering with skirts and dresses because they cut the leg line. As the trend got bigger and bigger, I decided to give it a try. I love the way booties with a skirt adds some sass to career looks. Very fun and nice to have warm feet too. Wearing skirts with pumps almost feels boring now

Several months ago, I posted to the forum wanting help with creating a boho look for myself. The problem I was running into is that since I am very short, most boho-style clothes overwhelm me, since they are usually meant to be somewhat oversized and voluminous.

Several fabbers suggested that I try bootcut jeans, and I was horrified at the thought. To me, bootcuts were the same thing as the bell bottoms from the seventies, which I do NOT have good memories of! But people said that I could look for a mini bootcut, that not all bootcuts were created equal.

I was still not convinced but thought I would try anyway. And what do you know...I actually liked how I looked in them! That was several months ago, and I now have two pairs of bootcut jeans. I was thinking of them today because I have been noticing in my outfit log that many of my high-happiness-quotient outfits are created with one or the other pair of these jeans.

Has anyone else forced themselves to try a trend and been surprised that they love it?
