Thanks Ceit! It looks great, although I think it might not be warm enough. I already have a coat for warmer days that I can still wear for a while, replacing my heavy duty winter coat is more important. And that lightweight jacket/coat that I need. I fear this one might fall directly in between.

Thanks Doro! I also forget about C&A all the time, I'll have a look there too.

Thanks Lemonade! Pull & Bear is new to me, but they have some nice stuff. I don't have a store near me, but ordering online seems to be easy. I'll definitely continue to look there. We do have Mango here, but I always forget about them because it's not where I normally shop. I also never shop in shops that sell Burberry or similar and I don't think I would want to spend that much money on a coat anyway at the moment, so that's alright. And yes, we have Promod here, it's on my list most of the time.

Have you got a Pull & Bear around? It's targeted to a younger shopper, and maybe is more like your vibe.

http://www.pullandbear.com/web.....COLLECTION

Don't know if the link will work... Pull & Bear belongs to the same company that owns ZARA and Massimo Dutti, but prices are lower because buyers are from 14-30 years old.

Also, I have always thought MANGO designs with a pear-shaped woman in mind, and I think that because I'm an hourglass and wear an S/M for bottoms and an L/XL for tops. And tops never fit properly on me because of my bust and shoulder line.

If you are ready to spend a bit more, you could always try Burberry and the sort, but I never go to those shops so I can't recommend you one in particular.

Have you got any Promod around? They are French and very... French-like lol And a bit more mature but still fun and happy.

Without having read any of the other comments (am on my way to bed) - I'd try Vero Moda, Esprit, H&M, Mexx, WE, and (surprisingly) C&A. Also, department stores like Karstadt or Kaufhof, they usually have a "best of" brands like Street One, Cecil, Gerry Weber, Betty Barclay and so on. All the names mentioned have a web shop, too. Patience and good luck!

Boden have some great coats. I've purchased Aigle coats last year and they are gorgeous! My two coats bought last year-

Both are duck down and water proof. They are so warm and fabulously made. I would never buy anything else but Aigle.

Astrid, I have no idea about European shops specifically, but just wanted to chime in and say that all four of my longer coats and one shorter one are flared or A-line in shape. It is possible to find them! My red trench is from Anthro, so I agree that it would be a good place to look. Kenneth Cole (can you get it locally in Germany?) also makes a lot of nice options, and that is where my black wool winter coat is from.

Thanks KL. Somehow winter coats aren't often cut that way, it's true. I guess it makes sense because you don't want to let in too much cold air, but even real a-line coats are somewhat hard to find. Before YLF I would have simply sized up to fit my hips, but now that I know how much better (and slimmer!) I look when things fit correctly in the shoulders and waist... Thanks for the tip with Anthropologie, I'll have a look!

I've never been to Europe so I don't have any advice for you, but wanted to wish you good luck in the search! I have a fit-and-flare trench coat with a similar "skirt" as #1 and it's so much fun to wear. (In my case, it creates the desperately needed illusion of hips rather than accommodating them.) Haven't seen the silhouette much in a winter coat, though. My trench was from Anthropologie which has offered several A-line pleated trenches in the past, so maybe keep an eye on their European site?

Thanks DeclawedJaguar! It's true that a classic jacket goes with everything and you can always add accessories, I just think that the coat or jacket should fit at least a bit into my style on its own. Classics with a twist? I posted some examples from my Pinterest below. I just fear something like this will be hard to find.

#1 Truly fit and flare. Really hard to find! I also love the retro feel.
#2 I don't want black and this one isn't long enough and probably too straight anyway, but I love the brocade fabric.
#3 Classic blazer but velvet. I'm actually thinking about trying this one as a fall alternative to my denim jackets.
#4 I'd love to find some great tweed jacket. This one is really interesting, I could see something like this open over jeans and buttoned and waist defining over a high-waisted skirt.

Another problem is that most of the wool coats or lined coats aren't warm enough when it really gets cold. So I have to find the most stylish option that's really warm or buy a different option for really cold weather next to a more stylish but not so warm coat.

I don't live in Europe, but would also suggest Massimo Dutti. I wish their jackets fit my hips, but they are just not cut for my figure. And you can always jazz up a classic jacket with fun shoes, jeans, skirt, etc. Kind of along the lines of Angie's blog post today, classic with a boyfriend look.

Thanks bj1111! I've almost given up on Zara. I'm not impressed with the quality lately and the items never seem to fit right. I'm also having a look at Massimo Dutti from time to time, they have some nice things. Although many items are too classic/chic/business like for my taste.

Thanks Angie! I had planned to do that in any case, but since I wasn't successfull with that strategy last year I thought I should maybe look somewhere else too. The few coats I've looked up in the last few weeks all didn't work out, it was the same old issue of them being too tight in the hips. It's really frustrating that so many coats that are photographed as a lines online end up being cut much more straight in the end.

I need both a non denim jacket to wear with jeans and a new wintercoat. I already had a look at my usual shopping haunts and haven't seen anything so far (I know that it's still early for a coat). But I really need them this fall, I don't want to wear my old ones another year. So I thought it might make sense to check out some some other ressources I haven't thought of on my own.

I'm also prepared to spend some more on these items if I find the perfect ones, because I've searched for a while and plan to wear these for a long time.

I'm mostly looking for online store reccomendations, but feel free to name B&M stores too.

Thanks in advance!
