If a brand wants to rethink their strategy, or redesign the website, one would think that in this day and age they can do it all behind the scenes while keeping the current website up and running, and then roll out the new design when everything is ready-to-go?<div><br /></div><div>They used to have a huge three-storeyed shop in Antwerp (separate storeys for menswear, womenswear and children), and then last year they suddenly downsized to only the ground floor, where they are now cramming only a very limited part of their collection into a not so nicely&nbsp;designed space (wood panelling on the floor, ceiling and walls, it feels so dark and&nbsp;claustrophobic I can barely breathe in there. But&nbsp;tastes differ, so perhaps that's just me). Granted, they still offered a wider and more varied selection online.&nbsp;The thing is&nbsp;I'm also not loving their current collections at all. </p> <p>This happened about ten years ago too: before that I used to shop at Mexx all the time, and each time I popped into the store I saw something I loved or at least liked a lot. Guaranteed. Then all of a sudden the collections changed, tailored completely to a very young, teenager audience. A couple of years later, they changed everything up&nbsp;again. Since last year they seem to be targetting a younger audience again (perhaps it's different in each country?). Plus, I&nbsp;get the impression that the quality of the clothes is no longer&nbsp;the same while they have maintained the same price level. Not fab at all.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm a little worried about what might be going on. I &nbsp;think the business seems slow there, though, with very few customers every time I visit. Seems like they're not doing well. I'm sorry for you though, it's always bad if a brand we rely on isn't available anymore or changes somehow. For me that's Esprit - I loved them in the past for better quality and the fit. They were a bit expensive for my pocket money budget, but I loved the few items I got as a teen. How can anyone afford to go offline for such a length of time in today's market?</p> <p>They recently closed b&amp;m shop at a prominent spot with large footfall&nbsp;in my local shopping centre. Arguably a small centre with a few other brands covering similar market, but still - there was room for them for sure. If anything, we have several economy giants in the area and large need for (casual)&nbsp;business dress code.</p> <p>I remember when they withdrew from the UK market a few years ago with the explanation they are focusing on the continental market. I thought they did well - they should. They have a great selection and ranges, for modern classic dressers especially. Great clothes for business environment too and reasonable budget. They can also get it a bit wrong, but admittedly that's down to&nbsp;personal taste - on average they probably are one of my favourite brands of all time, so I do notice much more when something is a bit off to my eye.&nbsp;I am selfishly annoyed because their regular sizing fits me to perfection and it's well made. Some of my most loved and&nbsp;durable pieces are actually from Mexx. It wasn't intentional, it just happened that they stood the test of time.&nbsp;</p> <p>But if this means they're losing the game then I have to keep an eye on the remaining stock when I bump into it. And I don't like buying under any sort of pressure.</p> <p>Vent over. </p>
