Late to the party, but I finally managed to hit the city...

- I was surprised to see so many subdued colours. Zara was actually the only store that had bright colours and colour blocking going on. I am a bit sad about that, because I need a fuchsia, a lavender, cobalt blue and emerald cardi, but they're nowhere to be seen.

- Lots of pale blue, quite a lot of darker blue and light grey sweaters and cardis too, jeans in different shades (not so many denim shirts), lots of beige (sigh), and a few pastels, and animal print tops everywhere (a reasonable selection of red, blue and some green shoes though)

- A few stores had red bottoms paired with pink tops (Mango, e.g.) and I also saw a few coral tops and one shop was full of dusty pink.

- A lot less stripes than a few weeks ago, strange. Many, many jersey solid coloured scarves, nothing exciting on that front.

- Lots of basic trenches, mostly beige and black. Hardly any wide-legged pants, mainly skinnies, straight legs and bootcuts.

- Quite a few ditsy florals on tops and dresses. Skirts and dresses are still short (several inches above the knee). Leggings all around (luckily with those hemlines;-)

- A good selection of shoes with lower heels (yes!!), but hardly any wedge heels (sad face) and almost no knee-high Summer boots.

- Flared skirts in many shops too, not too many flared dresses yet.

Do you think we'll have to wait for the new silhouettes (midi skirts, flared dresses, flared pants etc.) until Autumn?

Here we have still a lot of nude colors (which I love) but a lot of color blocking with strong and bright colors (coral, greens, reds, yellow, orange).
We see a lot of navy inpired outfits, florals and lace (white lace dresses are eveywhere).
I'm planning to get one as soon as my SYC ends.
We see a lot of cropped pants, wedges, 90's shapes (strong shoulders, no waist definition)

So, I have officially visited the hippest part of town, and my assessment stays the same. Colors are very dark and neutral except for red. Many stores are featuring deep bright reds. The biggest style stories in my opinion are the strange new love Europeans have found for American sport brands like Woolrich and Pendleton. Anything that looks like it could be worn by a fisherman or hunter or lumberjack is super cool. The other hip looks are "ironic" or frumpy--think Elaine from Seinfeld. Not a lot is catching my eye. The only thing I am happy about is I see more and more of that slightly dirty pale blush pink color I love but most people hate.

Julie, I totally think that high top flat oxfords (what I am officially calling them) can work with dresses and skirts - but the elements have to be spot on. A low colour contrasting shoe works better - I think? Need to experiment. This is new to me :)

I'm not into those floral bags though

Found the River Island boots on ASOS, but only in beige -

The selection online is not as good as in store but this gives an idea of the bags I have seen
and the boots, the first photo is Hobbs and the second is river island

I did notice some paisley print but not a seventies endemic as expected, pendant necklaces were everywhere. I noticed some short shorts (in leather) but not lots.

Thank you!!! Julie and Lynne, you worked especially hard. I am grateful. Wow.

We are not colour blocked on this side yet. The whole canvas story (as Lynne described too) is very interesting. Stripes are everywhere, so is griege and coral/tangerine. We are on pastel overload on top of it all. Lots of 70's florals and flares.

Bold striped jersey maxi skirts do not sound fab :(

Flat pointy toed lace up ankle boots - can you provide a picture perhaps? Will I like them for my own style?

How about short shorts? Lots of short shorts here.

I'm back from a v. stressful shopping trip to Edinburgh (stupid cars) *aaaargh* but like Polly I predominantly saw the following looks:
Botanicals: mixing floral prints, mostly brights against a white background. This look was seen in the windows of many of the shops from teen brand New Look to designer department stores. Lots of canvas handbags with floral prints and coloured leather handles.
Colour blocking: Zara and Topshop were colour block crazy, the brights are grounded with black accessories to make them more transeason (is that a word?) appropriate. I mostly saw turquoise, fuschia and tangerine.
Stripes; as Londoner mentioned (hello Londoner) the subtle breton stripe has been replaced by an altogether bolder, technicolour and slightly bonkers version. Often mixed with the new khakis or a strong bright such as tomato red. bold striped jersey maxi skirts are everywhere.
New Khakis: shrunken blazers, oversized blazers and rolled up slouch trousers in all shades of greige.
Flat pointy toed lace up ankle boots; in perforated leather, woven leather, suede and all shades of cream and pastel, a more wearable take on last years desert boots (I think I may bite)

As for the street style, snow storms in March meant everyone looked grumpy and cold!

Laura, I will try to find it for you. H&M has a Scottie dog print, Mango has a cat print on orange which would look lovely on you.

Heleen, I miss Claudia Strater! Such good quality for work wear. And Hema...good old one stop shop for family basics :).

Angie, I forgot to mention that what is really popular on the street right now is Tweed or denim shorts with opaque tights and short or ankle boots. The weather is only just above freezing but lots of girls are braving this look.

Last summer, harem pants in small prints were hugely popular, and I see them emerging in the stores again this year. Mums and daughters all rock these pants with tank tops and sandals in the summer.

I was in town but with dd6, so only had a chance to take a quick look at the shop windows.
Bijenkorf: draped dresses, colours in variations from a light kaki to almost-white and greyish white / whitish grey. I saw a fun t-shirt that is not for my body type: short raglan sleeves of a material that looked like feathers.
Claudia Sträter had ensembles with dark grey and a yelowish orange. Hé, you enjoy catwalks! No clicking on this page:

Colour blocking in Hobbs - orange and pink when I was in there earlier (returning things). Botanical prints in Karen Millen (window - I think). Striped jackets like you posted about are around. Will wait for Julie's in depth analysis after Saturday - I find it very hard to see the bigger picture for this sort of thing, so that's just what's caught my eye. Saw quite a few lace dresses in windows too.

ETA perhaps botanicals was in Hobbs not Karen Millen... The shops are next door and I wasn't quite paying attention...

Hi Inge, It has been years since I was in Antwerp. Over half a life ago after my secondary school exams I was a waitress for a week in the Indonesian restaurant my 2nd cousin ran there at the time. And I visited it for a day about 15 years ago. I haven't seen wide-legged pants either, staff at Rosmode told me it was not coming either. My new Cambio Melinda trousers are the widest available.

Waving to Heleen, hoi! I didn't know you were Dutch. Hmmm, do you ever visit Antwerp?-)
Also: fingers crossed that the weather starts to improve soon, high time for 'rokjesdag'!

Angie, I haven't seen a store in weeks, but as soon as my travel guide is finished I'm going to have a look to see what is happening in the city and I'll be sure to report back.
A month ago, the first Spring collections were starting to pop up everywhere. I saw lots of beige and black trenches, quite a few pastels and stripes. Skinnies and straight-legged pants, no wide-legged ones yet. No longer lengths on dresses or skirts either-( Ooooh but definitely more shoes with a reasonable heel. That is good news!

Hi Angie - long time fan, first time poster. Thanks for all your amazing advice and encouragement - you are an inspiration!

In terms of shops, my corner of London is full of brights especially coral, citron yellow and a kind of royal blue. Flares are in every shop, though the fashion editors remain sceptical on account of the soggy hem issue. Stripes are still popular, but they are becoming less breton more Prada-esque with broader stripes and different colours together. The skinny combat trousers from last summer are still around. Silk utility-style shirts also seem to be everywhere, in every colour and every neutral, worn with high-wasted flares and clompy high heels.

Of course, everyone is still wearing long black coats and long black boots as it remains very cold (with the exception of the lady wearing cream faux fur and coral jeans on the underground yesterday).

I knew you are Dutch Angie. That's why I included those 2 words that have no equivalent in English. I don't know if you are familiar with rokjesdag (skirts-day)? It is the first day in spring on which all of a sudden loads of women wear skirts without hosiery. We have a small Bijenkorf in our suburb. I was just thinking of taking pictures of their windows, they are on the outside of the mall, so no problems with security staff.

Mission accepted!! So far my brief observations would be...seeing relatively little of the 70s look so far, except for Mango, which has been going all out since last winter. BORING COLORS, SUPER BORING. but that could be just Germany. They like Dark here. There are a lot of casual, denim-inspired looks. Lots of blazers. Many tailored pieces. Zara actually had a gorgeous coat with a slight military influence. The amount of nautical-influence clothing is RIDUNKULOUS. I love nautical and even I am getting sick of it. Still seeing lots of plaid. Still seeing a heavy American Sportswear influence. I just read an article in the New York Times suggesting this is spreading to Paris as well. Seeing lots of classic pumps, but the super-duper platform, crazy high pumps too. But now a lot of classic pumps, which I was not seeing before. Those sandals with a cuff around the ankle like you showed, I think, in your Israel post a long time ago are suddenly popping up in stores everywhere. Seeing a lot of narrow leg pants, not many flairs. A lot of florals still. That was big last summer. Boots everywhere, also spring/summer boots. Lots of dresses still, not as many skirts. Lots of chino-esque spring trousers. Lots of ruffles, surprisingly enough.

I take it upon myself to visit a more hip section of the city and report back here! I have to say that the weather is only slowly warming up now, so there won't be much spring street style for another few weeks.
