Such a shame! I've loved hearing how certain companies have stepped up to take care of employees during these strange times, too bad Sephora didn't

Sephora is so gross , and I lose a little bit of my self-respect every time I go in there. Which is far too often . Staff turnover , lack of cleanliness ( I’m sure that will change ! ) and overcrowded aisles that are so close together make it a nightmare to shop in . But it’s where the good stuff is

See, this is why I supported Bernie Sanders. I'm not a communist, just someone who's tired of corporations oppressing their workers. Every decision seems to come down to money, it's so depressing. But as long as I can vote, I'm going to fight the power.

It *is* actually a grotesquerie that corporations go on forever IMO. Way back at their inception, they were suppose to have a limited lifespan, whereupon the owners became personally liable again.

I feel very vague about how labour unions in the US became so weakened. I see all the recent things, yes, but what happened to my dad’s union? That was back in the late 80s. I suppose I should just ask my mom, an economist. Another side comment... when I was working multinationals, so so interesting to see the same company accommodate European labour law, which is so much stronger, and leave the American-side to go hang...

The working poor of this country have always been overlooked. They make too much to qualify for help, but not enough for basic needs. It’s really a crime. Single Moms who must chose between food and rent , Families who live in filthy hotels, or worse yet in cars...with children.
I agree with Shevia...so much needs to be fixed in this world. It’s been going on for decades and decades.

I am not surprised either. I volunteered at a holiday “store”. That mostly served the working poor And recent immigrants. These people work at least three part-time jobs and have no benefits. Many worked at big stores like Walmart and need help, during the holidays to get gifts and special foods. If a family member needs medical help they may end up being homeless. Some people think these people are lazy. That is so not true!

Well, I have been a member of several unions and have willingly paid dues. I also know that some unions have overreached, even to the point of corruption. However, many corporations are exceptionally corrupt. Nobody talks about getting rid of them, though.
In my experience, most people who criticize the labor movement (who did bring us the weekend, by the way) might not understand how and why it’s good for people who work.

My dad was a member of a retail clerks union. And I remember it’s end but not how that came to be.

The sad thing is, when I was a grocery cashier, I remember the local trying to unionise our store... but they were thugs who couldn’t negotiate better than minimum wage and wanted a lot in automatic dues... so much that the part time people would not have been able to afford working for our store.

Not a surprise. When I was in college in the early 1970s, I worked retail. I was a member of the Retail Clerk’s Union. Even as a part time college student, I made a decent wage, had a schedule at least one month ahead of time, and had a guaranteed number of hours each week. This is what America lost when organized labor was flushed down the toilet. It’s a shame, really.

That is the way everyone does it in this country across the board. I’ve told y’all my story about being a bad contractor? I was sent to a site where it turned out everyone in the fab went to a church run by the same order of nuns back home (I got a tour of the convent which was cool). Well, my client contact, this engineer gave a little soapbox at dinner about how women should stay at home. He and his wife managed it financially, etc. etc. I totally snapped and upbraided him, my customer. I asked him how many of his workers in the fab he ran got full-time hours and thus benefits? Yeah, he eventually left that company and came to work at mine. But of course that’s a personal gesture that doesn’t actually help anybody.
