That’s probably why dry cleaning is perferred. Usually if it washed with total immersion and dried slowly and evenly, it does not stain. I have gotten stains on silk from washing that dry cleaning can not get out. I think the garments dried unevenly. But I may try washing again in plenty of water and drying more carefully. We have very low humidity so the wash dries very fast. If I had your second-hand shopping prowess I wouldn’t even be worrying about it. Those SAs were not about to help me! I started out with the coat (there’s one in the window), thinking I’d ask if it could be further reduced, and that getting “manager permission” might take a while, during which I’d peruse the rest of the store. They were highly incensed! First one made so much noise about it that another came over and joined the chorus, until a third SA came from the other room & looked on with wide eyes. Weirdly, none of them tried to show me the coat’s merits or convince of the higher price—they were just upset. So I learned something about what not to do while shopping clearance sales in Germany. I usually worry about how I’m representing my country when I offend people in that kind of situation, but their accents suggested they are also not native here. I’ve switched the finds around so that 3-6, in order of preference, are the ones I’d like to get second hand (size 6 US/ 36 EU, in case anyone wants to help). A false plain would be good too. German customs charges are crazy, so I’d have to either get it from the EU or do it in the USA. Kkards, it did cross my mind that parachuters probably did not care what color their parachute was, or if it was splotchy, as long as they landed safely. I just had my son test it—he gets “women’s double breasted trenchcoat” in rosewood (kinda blush) same as me. Must be limits on where people can use that link. The photos and the first 3 finds here are the transitional jackets I own. Finds starting with the hot pink Kate Spade jacket (still love that one but never saw it at my price) are others I’ve considered over the years. Trends I see are that I’d like something a little warmer (but not a heavy winter coat), a little longer (but not full length—more like 35-42” with the hem between my wrists and my knees), and somewhere in the spectrum of berry colors (or maybe the colors of leaves & stems on the berry plants). They aren’t all rain jackets, but would be fine for my needs—maybe 20 minutes, usually much shorter, in gentle rain. Most of them are classic with a twist—pattern, a ruffle, faux fur. The “twist” on the Escada one was the bright gold buttons. We might be going back to the US for a week or two in Sept-Oct, and I might get it there. Or I could get one here. I want to stay under $200, preferably well under that. I’m not in a rush to get it, but it would be nice to have for the rain in October this year. I am so amused at how diverse this forum can be (shows it's really very subjective), but I love that color on you! You should expand your "berry colours" to "flower" or botanical garden! Fuchsia and frosty baby pink is superb on you! With that said, I am not sorry you left that coat in the store. If anything, it looks to "proper" in lack of better words. To classic a cut, boring and conservative to your Free Spirit style. If I were you, I would look for something coarser, thicker, more textured in this colour. Have no idea what they used for waterproofing.  I used to have cloth coats waterproofed at the drycleaner and the results were meh.  So I guess it can be made water resistant and you carry a good umbrella.
