No direct intel on the tumi. But Zappos lists it as up to a 15 inch laptop

The MZ Wallace will definitely fit a 15 inch laptop with room to spare. #1 is my pack bought at the beginning of 2017 and used for my daily commute until the about 5 months ago, when I switch to a different mz wallace pack. #2 is everything that was in the pack. And I could have fit more. Laptop used for demo is my antique 15” MacBook. Smaller work laptop gives me even more room.
I think I’ve just talked myself into the blue lacquer one LOL

I use a nylon backpack made by Kipling. It’s all nylon and has a slot for a laptop but no padding for the laptop so you have to add your own (I use a sheet of bubble wrap). It keeps it very light. The straps ARE padded. It’s sort of halfway between sporty and dressy at least in my opinion. Got it at macys but I bet you can also find it on amazon. I’ll post a find later, I don’t have a good signal right now. UPDATE...see find below. I think there were a few similar models in slightly different sizes so make sure to get one that fits a laptop.

I have the Tumi backpack which fits my huge laptop and lets me carry it along with all the other stuff I need on to flights. For me, having a briefcase was not cutting it as my laptop was heavy and my back was suffering. It looks much nicer than a standard backpack and I've gotten positive comments on it.

I understand what you mean about the between-the-boobs problem, but can’t comment, as I’m not built to know. Apparently the link I pasted in didn’t work. Sorry about that! What I mean by “sling bags” (and I just googled and saw that several variations came up, so I see your confusion) are bags that I first heard of as a response /solution to the way people’s backs ached after they carried backpacks that had two straps on just one shoulder. So the weight was redistributed and a type of bag developed that fits more on your side and just has one strap. I’ve never used one, but one side is usually higher than the other, so I guess you have to decide when you buy it which side you’ll carry it on. Here’s one example: https://www.ebags.com/product/.....id=1304537

They are both from Nordstrom. Neither of mine will fit a laptop though.

Rebecca Minkoff may have larger sizes of the same type. Regardless of the size, it is the design that will make getting a laptop in and out difficult. I was merely trying to suggest that you consider backpacks. They have been FABULOUS for my back/shoulder.

Best wishes.

Rachel, too many steps alas!

Kkards and Sterling: those look nice. If they can fit a laptop, I am in!

FashIntern: you mean like a crossbody? For some reason those don't work for me. Boobs get in the way and they keep bumping around on my hip.

I have to agree with KKards. When my shoulder/back bother me, I switch out my tote for a backpack. Less attractive, but oh so much more comfortable. I use these.

i think ergonomic combined with tote is an oxymoron....
if the pain is really bad, i'd try a rolling case as rachy suggests...or go with a basic black backpack....
i like this tumi convertable one....or there's the sort of boring tum one...but if money was no object, i'd get a patent one ('cause nothing says dressy like patent), like this Stella McCartney one....

Does such a thing exist? Or a backpack that looks ok with formal clothing?

I generally carry a Tumi Voyageur tote as my work bag (structured, nylon, zips up and has feet) but with a laptop in it, it is getting heavy and exacerbating my shoulder pain.
