Check out a website called Barking Dogs. It's filled with ideas about shoes for fussy feet. I just got some Mephistos ($$$$) but they are great. I like Danskos, Sanitas, Birks, Vionics and Born.

I also like Naot, Ahnu, and some Dansko and can't wear Birkenstocks. Have you checked out barkingdogshoes.com? You might get some other good brand ideas there.

Vionic? I haven't tried their other shoes, but I like their flip-flops.

Sounds like my feet. I find Salomon a good fit for that foot shape (I also have a pair of water shoes by them). I also have the other two shoes pictured in my Finds and like them for lots of standing and walking. Earthies/earth can also be good but are usually just a smidge too wide for me in the heel. I don't have any sandal recs-- I find them hard to fit and can't wear open toe to work so mostly stick to good quality flip flops with a high arch for weekend wear.

I have a high arch and have found both Timberlands and Borns comfortable at different times, so another vote for those brands.

I like Naots, although some of their styles have too much of an arch for me. My foot is very flat, which means it needs support but not too much, as the arch wants to be low. The Naot footbed is cork that sort of molds to your foot. I can only wear their sandals and boots though, not regular shoes as they are all too high volume for me.

Some Dansko footbeds work for me, although not all of them and a lot of their styles are also too high volume for me.

What works best for me is actually non-comfort (but comfortable) shoes like Borns, for example. I add a black superfeet insert (the black ones are the lowest arched superfeet) which gives enough arch support and have the bonus of taking up some of the excess volume in most of my shoes. I also have powerstep inserts which are a bit more heavy duty but not too high-arched.

I love Timberlands, which have a very comfy padded footbed w arch support. My Danskos fit my foot well too, although I find them a bit too stiff for walking a lot (more than a couple miles a day). But for mainly standing would work well. (For what it's worth, I have a high arch & instep too & don't find Birkenstocks comfortable. My toes are short though!)

I was going to suggest Keens. They have moderate arch support, imo. I'm curious about the Ahnus, but I haven't tried them.

Going another direction, what about Danskos? Still a slip-on, with a rep for good support.

What shoes do you prefer for travel / standing long periods?

I have some Spenco slides that I love, and I'm looking for some additions. My Mephisto Allrounders are pretty good, with some Scholls gel insoles in them. Tevas work well for me, but I need a closed toe solution. (I haven't yet tried the Teva find I've appended)

Crocs and Birkenstocks didn't work for me (finds appended for other folks); my narrow foot has a high arch and long toes, with a high instep. It's a very pretty foot, aesthetically, but not practical for fitting into shoes with a ridge at the toe (Birks).

I'll be trying some Keens, the Teva and the Ahnu. What else should I look for?

I was surprised to not find more than one thread in the Forum history.
