I love this dress. I love how you've styled it. It has a geek chic quality to it at times that I love. The mustard yellow houndstooth is so versatile in your hands. I am not sure I would have been so inventive. You are an inspiration Ingunn. I'll have to find a printed dress and do the same.

If I were forced to pick a favorite I'd go with #3

My favorite is #1 no doubt. I also like #4 and #5 with the blazer.
I suppose #2 will make sense IRL because the dress and the blue elements echo your hair and eye color, which doens't come trough in the pictures.
In #3 the red trench seems to make the dress lean more to the yellow side but maybe it is also a question of lighting.

This is a spectacular find. I love the dot detail on the tight in #5 with the blazer which is my favorite of the grouping. I like how you have rolled the sleeve of the white shirt in #3 as well.... and the low contrast look in 4. Okay, apparently I just like then all!

I love this dress on you Ingunn - I think the fit, pattern and colors are very flattering on you. I really like the stylings in all outfits in #3, #4 and the first outfit in #5. They have a crispness and simplicity to them that works really well to my eye.

I love that dress for you, Ingunn, and think you have done a great job of styling it. My favourite of these is the first in #5. It's simple, yet fresh, and it looks "movable" if that makes any sense --- always one of my outfit tests.

The combo with the striped top underneath is unexpected and fun. And I really love the looks in #4. (The new coat and boots look amazing, by the way.)

But I think, ultimately, that this dress might be at its very best without an underlayer, and without a topper (other than a coat or the blazer or maybe the denim jacket). Similar to my new blue dress, it's a great dress, in an eye-catching pattern, and it's quite enough on its own. It has presence, and so do you!

I think you have done brilliantly Ingunn. The only version that doesn't fully work for me is the bomber jacket. It's probably just my personal preference but the silhouette looks just a little off too me. All else is very creatively styled and looks just fabulous.

#2 with the blue is an unexpected colour combo but very attractive.

What a great dress! Love the white shirt and dark tops best. Black blazer works great. Not a fan if the striped shirt. Pattern mixing may be possible though tricky-- think would need to go dark and subtle, like a dark paisley blouse.
Super score!

That dress is fab for you Ingunn. I absolutely love 4 and 5. The Burgundy and Black are lovely. 1 and 3 are neck and neck for me I like the crisp white shirt against the bold pattern. In 2 I like the look of your whole outfit with the Denim jacket over the top and the scarf echoing the blue tones, but I'm not wholly convinced by the blue stripey sleeves next to the hounds tooth when you have your jacket off; but to be honest I think you look pretty darn good in all iterations.

This is such a great dress! I love the bold houndstooth and powerful colourway. I am surprising myself in preferring the burgundy and black pairings. While the white, including the stripe, looks nice I am not sure you "need" it. For me, the golden highlights in your hair harmonise with the gold in the plaid.

Some time ago I posted a casual fall capsule including a thrifted houndstooth dress in mustard and black. Some of you commented that the light grey booties were too cold valued for the warm mustard and black dress, and I agree to some extent, so here are a few alternatives. The dress is really comfortable, and I've played a little with it with some Angie advice in mind:

How To Wear Colours That Don't Love You Back
The Item - Outfit - Capsule Test

My shopping list this fall included a patterned dress to replace an old wrap dress that I've worn to death. I liked this dress instantly because it has great fabrication, a bold pattern and a versatile shape. Houndstooth is on trend AND a classic pattern, so how could I not love that? Initially, I worried that the pattern was too bold, and it wasn't in my most flattering colors, but I thought I would give it a bash and "make it work"! How? By adding something bright near my face, and/or incorporating trends I like, and by examining the true versatility of this dress in my wardrobe through the item - outfit - capsule test.

Here's what I tried:

I chose two turtlenecks in black and burgundy, a silk blouse in cream, a crisp white shirt and a striped tee in black and white for layering. I added brown heeled booties, black chelsea boots, tall cognac boots and tall black boots and also black pumps. I have several toppers that work with this, too: Black blazer &bomber, denim jacket, parka, stone trench and red coat.

#1 Layered with the silk blouse and paired with lace tights and brown booties. Trench and black tote bag. This is good for work.

#2 Layered with the striped tee, black semi-opaque tights and shiny Chelsea boots. Topper - denim jacket and a light blue scarf. This is great for week-ends.

#3 Layered with the white shirt, paired with polka dot hose and black pumps. For outdoors I added black tall boots and the red coat. I can use both my white clutch and black tote with this outfit. I can wear this both for work and for going out with friends (dinner party etc).

#4 Layered with the burgundy turtle neck, combined with brown semi-opaque tights and cognac boots, parka and cognac messenger bag. This is a casual look to me.

#5/6 Two versions: 5 is smart casual with black blazer, polka dot hose and Chelsea boots. 6 is more casual with a black turtle neck, black bomber, black tights and cognac tall boots.

My conclusion had to be that this dress is workhorse material, and that at a very reasonable price. Which version is best in your opinion? Did I succeed in making the pattern and colors work for my style and coloring? Thanks for reading and looking!

Have a great fashionable weekend, everyone I'm off to an offline mountain cabin, but will pop in when I can.
