Mine are like shoes - they come off after I've been home for a while and get put on again as I'm getting dressed in the morning.

I originally started taking them off because I'm not a hand-jewellery sort of person and wasn't used to them. But now they are a great way for me to stop biting my nails at work, they give me something to fiddle with instead! And I feel a bit naked if I'm out in public and not wearing them.

My wedding ring I wear all the time- it's a fairly simple band so I don't worry about losing diamonds or anything getting stuck in it. My engagement ring I no longer wear. It's also a fairly simple ring, but it has a pearl that sticks out and gets caught on things.

I take mine off every night and then put them on in the morning before I leave the house for the day. I have 2 different spots where I keep my rings - one upstairs and one downstairs - and they are always kept in one of those 2 different spots (a small glass box downstairs and my grandmother's jewelry box upstairs.) I force myself to ALWAYS put them in one of those 2 places so that I never lose them or panic for a few days because I can't find them. I frequently change out my engagement ring for a couple of other rings that my husband has given me over the years - an emerald with small diamonds or a sapphire with small diamonds. I love both of these rings and they look great with my wedding band!

I wear my rings all the time, taking them off only to make meatloaf and throw clay pots on the wheel. Then I can't wait to get them back on again. I like how sparkly they are after taking a shower. Gardening, I wear gardening gloves to protect hands and rings. If I don't wear gloves, then I may take the rings off but usually forget.

When my husband and I got married, I made him promise to never take off his wedding ring (and he hasn't, for 20 years)! He made me promise the same, so we chose very plain gold bands with no detail or stones that would get dirty.

I wear my engagement ring almost 24/7. I sleep, shower and swim in it (my watch, too. It's waterproof). I might take it off if I was going to be digging in the dirt or mixing up something messy in the kitchen. If I'm driving in the car and think of something I want to remember to do when I get home, sometimes I'll switch my engagement ring to the opposite hand (like tying a string around a finger) to remind myself. If I put on lotion while I'm out somewhere and take it off momentarily, I always hold it between my teeth while I rub it in because I'm too afraid to lay it down anywhere.

Some really sad, and sweet, stories on this thread! I don't have an engagement ring (I'm not into them); my SO and I just wear plain platinum bands. I *never* take mine off, and now I really don't even notice it's on. I don't even really think of it as a ring, just as a part of me.

Lyn, that's cute. I know some people are just not ring people, and I think I'm one of them - I had a hard enough time getting used to a watch, and I don't do bracelets, because I hate having a lot of *stuff* on my hands.

If I ever have an engagement/wedding ring, I'll bet I'd wear it regularly, but it would take some adjustment.

A bit off topic, but a couple summers ago, my dad was going overseas to India for the first time for business. He had only flown internationally once, to France, and was VERY worried about potentially retaining water and having his wedding ring stuck on his finger - he had been wearing it all the time for so many years that he could hardly get it off. So he sent it in to get it resized, but didn't get it back from the jeweler before departing for India. We all teased him that on his first international trip by himself, he conveniently was without his wedding ring for the duration of the trip!

Morethanbeige, that's terrible! I'm so sorry. Something similar happened to me in high school with a ring my boyfriend gave me. I was heartbroken. Now I try never to take my rings off in public, and if for some reason I have to, I either slip it onto another finger or put it in my mouth. I know that sounds kind of gross, but I never forget it! : ) Most times I can just wash my hands with my rings on though.

Louise - you might want to consider buying a chain necklace to put your rings on when you need to mix up stuff like playdough at work.

morethanbeige - what an awful thing to have happen at work. I'm like you - pretty much only taking rings off when making meatballs or something like that.

Angie - just read your post and Louise's follow up reply re: four rings, aloud to my husband. You know...just to put ideas into his head.

I wear my constantly as well, even though I've heard it's hard on your rings to sleep in them because they may catch on your bedding. I don't think mine are any worse for the wear though, the only time I had issues is when my engagement ring got too thin in the back and broke, but I had it fixed easily enough.

I think if my rings were larger or more valuable I'd probably take them off more.

I wore mine 24-7 (we deliberately chose very flat settings) until I started working out. I found they cut into my hands and made it hard to grip overhead weights etc. Just started to wear them again, but they'll likely come off when I start working out again.

I wear mine almost all the time, round the clock. I will take them off if I'm making homemade meatballs or something icky like that, but my husband and I have a tradition - if one of us takes our ring(s) off, we wait for the other one to propose and put the ring(s) back on. My husband lost his wedding band one day while gathering up leaves in the backyard - took us a day to find it, but I got down on one knee and "proposed" to him and put the ring back on.

If I take mine off, and place in a bowl on the counter or something because I'm doing something extra-icky (usually mixing something with my hands), when I've washed up, he gets down on one knee and "proposes" to me all over again. The funny part is that our dog, a giant black lab, sits right next to the person down on their knee and wants to be part of the whole proposal thing. He wiggles right in there and wags and sometimes even puts his paw up.

Anyway, it's just our little tradition - a way of saying that we want to marry each other all over again.

Is that silly?

I feel naked and abnormal without the rings on. I wouldn't be able to sleep or relax. Like MINI says, it's like they have become part of my body.

I only wear mine when I leave the house. And since I work form home, I don't leave that often. I have horribly dry skin and have to put lotion on every time I wash my hands, so it would be a lot of putting it on and taking it off. I know how I am and I would constantly be forgetting where I had set it down if I wore it at home.

I was thinking that I was an anomaly until I read Kim's response. My wedding rings are like my shoes. I put them on in the morning (together with my watch) before leaving the apartment, and take them off as soon I get home in the evening, right after I kick off my shoes. (We are a no-shoes indoors household). Hubby does the same. If it is a Sunday and we are just relaxing at home, I will never put on my rings or my watch.
I don't lose them though, because I always take them off and put them on in the exact same place. They live in a little ceramic bowl on my dresser.

My mom wore hers for 60 years without taking it off!

After she gave it to me, I wore it pretty much all the time but took it off for heavy exercise or cleaning. Ironically, the day the stone disappeared was a day I was especially careful with it, taking it off for my kettlebells class. (The stone was in it then).

I do not have an engagement ring with a stone (of my own), just a simple band, which I wear all the time.

I can't sleep with rings on, so I remove my rings at bed time...or while sitting around watching TV in the evening... and I dont' put them back on until I've gotten myself "done up" for the day. If I don't go anywhere for the day, it wouldn't be uncommon to never put them on. Sometimes I get out of the house and realize I forgot to put them on. Sometimes I can't find them when I'm ready to go... Once I couldn't find them for several days and finally found them in the pleated part of the foot rest of my recliner..LOL.
I cook in them unless I'm mixing up meatloaf or something else messy, and I normally wouldn't take them off just to wash dishes or do light housekeeping.
So, as you can see I'm not terribly anal about when and where I wear my rings. I aim to wear them every day but it doesn't always happen.

I recently lost mine last tuesday was when I noticed it was gone... but I never wore it much because of the setting.... I like the look of just a band... I probably won't replace it but I would love to get a new wedding band with diamonds in it....

I wear mine all the time, and only take them off to moisturise.
