<p><b>Sharan</b> I am happy my post resonated with you. Yes, it is interesting how sorting through literal mountains of clothes can sharpen one's taste.<br />Thank you <b>Lisa</b>!<br /><b>Olive Green</b> What a lovely thing to say!
<p>Jaime, you always look of the moment, wearing your amazing curated pieces, the best of the past few decades.<br />Last year my resolution was to make the everyday items better, or to identify the stars and propagate them.&nbsp;<br />Took some of the little bumps out of getting dressed and on the road, from shorts to keychains.<br />Hope you find the hero items and wear the heck out of them.<br />Some things in life should not be hard.&nbsp;

<p>Jaime, I enjoyed your wise reflections here. I appreciate your sentiments about style as a balancing force; I feel grounded in a way by reading and participating here, too. It's interesting to read that your work at the thrift shops has made you more selective, and as Suz noted, it does make sense. I think they are lucky to have you, with the deep and innate style sense you bring to your work. Focusing on essentials is a worthy goal. It will be fun, as always, to see what you find.&nbsp;

<p>Your finds are amazing and you have such a great eye for treasures — I know you are excellent at your job and it translates to your smashing style! Those jeans are perfection. Keep on keeping on, and may the new year bring us all more peace.

<p><div>Thank you so much for your warm responses. They really brought tears to my eyes. No I will not speak much about the conflict I am living in - both externally and internally - because it is such a hot topic and I do not want to bring it to our safe and beautiful place. But your incredible empathy and understanding deeply touches me.</p>
<p><div>Thank you <b>Dee</b>, agreed that YLF is a precious oasis of civility.</div><div><b>Helena</b>, thank you! Thrifting essentials, because they are so specific, is a whole other ball game.</div><div><b>Lisa</b> - You make it sound so glorious !</div><div><b>Lisa</b> (LJP) - The Prada coat was, to be fair, a (underpriced) consignment store find. I have a thing for Prada Sport (along with everyone else).</div><div><b>Cookie</b> - And I salute your recognition - thank you.</div><div><b>pirouette</b> - Thank you - it is amazing what people can get used to.</div><div><b>Lise</b> - I do hope more boyfriend style jeans come around.</div><div><b>Irina</b> - Yes the hunt for essentials is a whole other ballgame. Fun that you once did the sorting!</div><div><b>Roberta</b> - You are so right, you cannot imagine what kind of weird and icky stuff I see. It makes me especially grateful for people that donate clean clothes in decent condition.</div><div><b>Carla</b> - wow thank you! Maybe, I should post my finds more often.</div><div><b>Suz</b> - Exactly! Once upon a time I would pounce upon every cashmere sweater I found. Now I have to be a cashmere snob .</div><div><b>Bonnie</b> - Happy to share a goal with you Bonnie! In the last couple of years I have found that the classic basic jeans (Levis, Gap) are what work for me.</div><div><b>cat2</b> - Yes exactly! People consign or donate their statement pieces, their one time event pieces, but their perfect jeans and tees not nearly so much because, as you say, they wear them to the ground.</div><div>Thank you <b>kkards</b>! I hope to see you posting more too.<br />Right back at you <b>Brooklyn</b>. And thank you.<br />I so appreciate your support <b>Sal</b>. Thank you.<br /><b>Christel</b> So nice to hear that you have sorted too and understand how it changes how you see clothing.<br />Thank you so much <b>Ket</b>. You are very kind. And your thought about scarcity thinking when it comes to essentials is very intriguing.<br /><b>kellygirl</b> Your style is fabulous and I think we overlap a bit. I still remember when we wore the same crossover blouses .</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Angie</b> - Special thanks for your warm support through all these years. I am very touched and tickled by your words. I do feel well appreciated by my manager, who, by the way, is Dutch! Thank you for creating this wonderful place. I will never have the words to express how much I appreciate it and you.</div></div>

<p>Jaime, I always love reading your posts and your insightful, supportive comments. You are funky and artsy and lovely and warm -- all the things that make you and your posts so wonderful. I'm sorry the last few years have been so tough. You have never said much, and have always encouraged me so well and warmly. I send you the warmest of hugs &lt;3&nbsp;<div><br /></div><div>I love that you're focusing on the essentials! I think those are so easy to forget about. I know I do, not giving them the budget or time they deserve even though I know they would make me so utterly blissful. (Part of it is worrying I'll find an essential, and then I won't be able to replace it easily when it wears out. Terrible scarcity thinking, I know.)</p>
<p>Cannot wait to see more of your posts this year of 2026!&nbsp;</div>

<p>Your essentials goal spoke to me. I have seen people assemble awesome second hand wardrobes, but I have always wondered how they deal with essentials. The high end consignment store near me has gorgeous evening wear and quirky designer pieces for day. But I have always wondered where the wardrobe glue comes from. When I have a good quality essential, absent a size change, I wear it out.

<p>Oh<b> Jaime.</b> I can only imagine how tough it's been living through a war. You are resilient, hopeful, fortuitous, trouble shooting, and it's absolutely remarkable how your brilliantly kind and emotionally intelligent attitude shines through it all. VERY IMPRESSIVE,&nbsp;</p>
<p>This:&nbsp;</p>
<p><i>"It has been an impossible few years and style is what has helped me keep my mental and emotional balance by giving me a focus and a lens to look at the world".<br /></i><br />I relate. So very relieved that you had an effective and soothing distraction.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I hereby crown you Queen Best Silver Asymmetrical Mop of Curls on the Planet &nbsp;Having met you in person a few times - lucky me! - I can attest to how much this style - with smashing hoop earrings! - &nbsp;SUITS YOU! It bounces quietly and gracefully as you stride, creating a sense of poetic calm. Fully of personality, quietly statement-making, and soothing. Like you!&nbsp;</p>
<p>Your dual thrift store job has excellent benefits! They are awfully lucky to have your skillset! You find extraordinary things and wear them with conviction and a happy heart. Rocking these '90s jeans, and super cute bag! Case in point.&nbsp;</p>

<p>These are fabulous finds!<br />A couple of decades ago, I worked for a few months in the same position at a thrift store as you. Found a few fantastic pieces and wore them for ages afterwards. Great job!<br />Good luck with your essentials, I think it is often much harder to find a specific essential item and hunting it is not fun.&nbsp;

<p>I have been inspired by all the latest end of year posts to try to gather my thoughts and share my own. It has been an impossible few years and style is what has helped me keep my mental and emotional balance by giving me a focus and a lens to look at the world.<div><br /></div><div>So...I have found many new interesting sources of inspiration on substack and otherwise, while continuing to be sustained and inspired by Angie, YLF and this forum. I am working in two local thrift stores doing the sorting and deciding what gets into the store and how it is priced. It also gives me first dibs on what comes in. Quite a fringe benefit. </div><div><br /></div><div>Ironically perhaps, this has led to me buying less. I would say that I have become super picky and only buy true grails for myself, and most of my favorites are not even from my own stores. My most worn new-to-me winter items are all second hand: 1. vintage Jean Paul Gaultier bag, 2. 1999 Prada Sport winter coat and 3/4. (some recent outfits wearing) Gap girlfriend jeans. Only the Gap jeans are from my workplace.</div><div><br /></div><div>My goal for next year is to focus more on my essentials - the perfectly fitting jeans, the comfortable walkable shoes, day to day earrings and the soft underlayers my skin is demanding. I am not saying I will not pick up anything fun or funky, not at all, but want to invest more of my budget on the essentials.</p>
<p>Thanks for reading and happy new year!</div>
