Mustard and green are such gorgeous colors on you, Kari! I especially love outfit #1, and the dress is beautiful too! It looks like an interesting bird print, from what I can see.

P.S. I love rats! The dumbo ear rats are soooo cute!

Suz, they really are sweet pets, I kid you not! Just think of a rat as a more intelligent hamster with a long tail. My rats would cuddle with me, lick me, come running when I clicked my tongue. One of my rats had to go into surgery to have a benign tumor removed, and the vets were so sweet to her - one vet assistant shared her lunch with my rat while she was recovering.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related

Looking at some of the other YouTube videos, I realize I really could have done a lot more with training with my pet rats when I was a kid. (At the same time as I was growing up, I was going through obedience training/4-H showing with my dog.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related

That being said, while my parents were in full support of my having pet rats when I was a kid, since then they had a pretty nasty experience with rats invading (and dying in) their crawl space. It's long since been cleaned up, but from all the time my dad spent crawling around down there, I don't think he could tolerate a pet rat in his house again!

We'll see what happens! We saw one place today that we liked. It's a bit smaller than our current place- 1 medium sized bed and bath and HUGE living room compared to 2 small beds and baths and a medium living room. We will have to think about whether it works for us or not but we like the location. In Seattle generally the 2 beds/baths are either above our price range, or in a really dumpy area, or very out of the way from conveniences and transit.

I've never seen so much yellow on the forum as I have in the last day or so. Or maybe I'm just noticing it because *I* wore yellow. I love it on you Kari, it's especially fab with your hair. I like the first, tailored look, as that's what I've come to expect on you, but the second is like the new "soft/structured" that Angie has been talking about. Super fab for both looks. *waving to Lady Mustard*

It will definitely be a different experience living in the city, but we won't be right in the heart of downtown Seattle - we'll be quite a ways on the outskirts if we find a place in the area we're looking at right now. It's an area where a lot of our friends have settled and is a little more neighborhood-y and less congested/noisy (not to mention a heck of a lot more affordable) than living in the core city area.

Dianthus, I do have a yellow blazer, actually! I just haven't been wearing a lot of structured jackets (minus the white blazer) lately. It is a mustard cord blazer with 3/4 sleeves. I tried it once (just in my house, no photos) with the raisin skirt and it felt like too much yellow, but I do like it with the blouse I featured here. Perhaps it's time to revisit that piece. Thanks for the idea!

Yes, rats - seriously! I had pet rats when I was growing up and they were so sweet and smart. They are like the "dogs" of rodents in terms of their personality. Both of my rats were very affectionate and loved to hang out perched on my shoulder or in the pocket of a hoodie sweatshirt, and would lick your hand while you were petting them. Now, I wouldn't do this right away, but after about 5-6 months, my rats got to the point where I could put them in the middle of the floor and click my tongue, and they would come running to me. B. is very interested in getting a couple if it's not feasible to get a dog right away - it was actually his idea.

(High five, Shannon!)

Now if only I could train my rat to cook too, Ratatouille-style...

Love the Halogen skirt on everyone, even though I couldn't wear it well, and the second dress is really fun and special. I also am attracted to movement in clothing.

They are both beautiful outfits. Yellow is so nice for you and I hear you on the dreary days. It has been cloudy, cool, and drizzly here for a week or more.

Have you ever considered getting a yellow blazer? Now that I think about it, you really don't wear blazers much. I was just thinking it would be cute with the dress and your yellow skirt and bag work so well in your wardrobe that a jacket would likely fit in too.

Such GREAT FUN outfits, Kari! I've always found yellow and black a difficult combination to even imagine, let alone pull off in real life --- but here you are, a beacon showing the way to do it playfully! I think the contrast being softened by brown or other colours in the printed dress is key. Thanks for the lesson, and happy house (and canine/rodent) hunting!

I needed a bit of sunshine to round out a dreary, drizzly week, so I suppose I subconsciously reached for yellows on Thursday and Friday when I was getting dressed.

#1: Navy and mustard floral patterned loose silk blouse (sheer, with a white cami layered underneath) tucked into a yellow Halogen seamed ponte skirt; wide brown braided belt; brown hose; cognac riding boots.
I was actually quite happy with this outfit - any excuse to pull out a Halogen pencil skirt is a good one for me, and I love this gorgeous floaty blouse that my sister gave me for my birthday this year. However, the outfit didn't photograph well; it was too dark to take a natural-light photo outside, and the focus of the indoor lighting on the top half of my outfit makes my brown hose look a LOT darker and more chocolatey than they are in real life. In actuality, they are several shades lighter and less opaque.

#2: This dress and I made peace after a trip to Las Vegas in December. It's not an everyday foolproof dress; it is sheer so I need to layer under it, and it's a little more delicate than I'd like due to the shiny embroidery. But I love the feeling of the skirt swishing and floating as I walk, and it's just a fun piece. (I am kicking myself for forgetting to wear it during Mardi Gras week!)
Black chiffon midi dress with colorful floral/geometric print and shiny gold and green embroidery; black hose and low-heeled booties; black slip and turtleneck layered underneath for modesty and warmth; silver pendant necklace; and Lady Mustard (my beloved handbag) came out to play too.

Tomorrow, my partner and I are going apartment hunting, as we are both keen to add a dog (or, if that's not possible right away, rats) to our household and cannot do so where we're living today. Despite both of us growing up in the Seattle area our entire lives, neither of us have actually lived in the city... until now, we hope. It's a new adventure!
