I believe i've worn everything i bought this year at least once or twice. But i have a lot of clothes from last year that have not made a reappearance, probably because of this site, i realize they weren't as flattering as they could be. Looks like it's time to make a donation!

I think my tunics and leggings did not get as much wear as they could have. oh! I thought of one! I do have a very pretty turquoise blue tunic that never got worn. I was supposed to take it to the tailor to get the arms taken in a bit (slips off my shoulders) and i never got around to it. Maybe i should do that before summer is over...

I also probably have quite a few pairs of summery shoes that haven't gotten wear this year but i love shoes and have way too many i'm sure so that's ok by me.

I'm back - after a lengthy dinner & drinks watching the olympics and then a long drive in miserable rain trying to find a concert that was supposed to happen but we couldn't find the venue. DH is snoring now, and I still have a tiny bit of steam left. (I never seem to sleep as good as he does).

When I wrote this post, I had several items in mind, and the one that stands out glaringly among the rest: a white linen dress from BR. It's lined and has a lot of structure. It's gorgeous and I do love it but the weather has sucked so much in Boston (tonight someone told me this is the rainiest summer in 40 years; DH commented that we might as well be living in Seattle.

I would've taken it to Paris - and it would've been nice and cool on the few 100 degree days we had - but white just wouldn't have cut it on the metro. I'm not sure I'm giving up on this dress yet: next summer may be entirely different. Or it would work if we went someplace tropical for a getaway.

There's a shift dress - black with white polka dots (all in different sizes - large and small) - that I meant to wear in Paris but never did, because our routine included frequent picnicking/lounging in gardens and on the Seine; the dress was too form-fitting to be able to lounge on the ground with any sort of decorum! I think it will stay however and I will find use for it someday, since it fits so nicely and is fairly classic cut.

I have a pair of BR seersucker navy and white striped walk shorts I thought I'd get more use out of. I did force myself to wear them before our Paris trip - and I did like them, but not enough to take on the trip. However, I am going to try to squeeze in another wear or two (nice change from denim or white clams).

I have an orange sleeveless collared shirt from AT that I bought after being inspired by someone here who had something similar. I have worn it only once. I think it is lovely, and fits great, but there's something about it - maybe it's more appropriate if I worked in an office and not at home? This one I'm definetly going to try to wear at least once or twice more.

And I do have a few ATL tops that are definetly more Spring than summer. I try to wear them, but they are too hot when it's humid here. Unfortunately, we barely had a spring and seemed to jump right into a wet-yet-hot, yucky summer. :-(

There are two skirts I haven't worn at all. One, I think, is too "work like" for my current lifestyle. The other I have tried on and *almost* worn on several occasions, but ditched at last minute. I think I need to just choke it up and wear it and see how it works.

Then there's a lot of things from past seasons that I haven't worn at all this year. One exception is the navy top I wore on the plane in Paris (and actually wore again with the BR skirt). That's definetly a keeper. The rest... may need to be culled.

I *did* wear my white jeans! Just not as much as I expected. They were perfect for a work occasion (off-site meeting). But too hot for most days here. I am not giving up on them - they will work great next spring. Just took me too long to find them and then get them hemmed.

There's more but that's just off the top of my head. I have been trying to rotate through everything. Just certain things I keep passing up even though it's next on the rotation list, which is why I started this thread!

Good question! To answer the question, I went through my summer clothes. While doing that, I got rid of four tops and two bottoms. Also I found one capris that need to be shortened, several tops that I'm not sure how to wear. I'll take pictures and post for advices. Thanks Shiny for the challenge!

Shiny, very interesting topic. I'm glad to say that I've worn everything I have for my summer wardrobe. I pretty much started from scratch though this year after a big weight loss over the past year. I tried to build a small but functional wardrobe and I think I was able to do so. I've been keeping notes on things I would like to change for next summer so it will be interesting for me to consider this topic at the end of next summer.

*laughing* which is very good for me. I had a long valium induced sleep and a good session with my physical therapist. Funny how a physical therapist can appear to be the most attractive man on the planet when you know he can help put you out of your misery One of my favorite tops is an AT - white cotton, gather at waist and then flares out. I will take pictures and post since I intend to wear it next week!

Fun topic! Right now the only summer things I can think of that haven't been worn are both from the Goodwill. One is a denim sleeveless Gap shirtwaist dress. It's too long to be the ideal length and hasn't been shortened yet. It's also lost it's crispness and seems blah. It would be a pretty good Mom On The Go dress because I could get by without ironing it. For your challenge I'll pull it out and try it again. It will probably go back to the Goodwill.

The other unworn item is a pair of black strappy sandals with heels. They are comfortable, I think. For the challenge I'll make an effort to wear them to see how comfortable they are. If they feel as good as they look I'll keep them as they may be just what I need for a dressy occasion, but I've tended to pull out the nude colored version when wearing this sort of shoe this summer. I'm rethinking black shoes in general.

I have several because it hasn't been that warm in Seattle and I've been mostly indoors in places where the air conditioner's been blasting. But great timing on your question Shiny since last night I just realized I hadn't yet worn my favorite top and had laid it out to wear today. Unfortunately I got laid up all day with a severe case of vertigo so it all went out the window.

I have one cobalt blue dress that I have not worn yet. Hmm, now that I think about it, I think I can apply Angie's mom-on-the-go dress formula to it... I'll have to try it out for going to the Saturday market tomorrow!

I haven't purchased any "summer only" items besides a pair of bermudas for work. I haven't worn those either because I haven't ironed them!

I can proudly say that I am not guilty of it but I have a very small wardrobe. I haven't worn a couple of old dresses because they have spaghetti straps and I'm still in my nursing bras.
Angie, I made similar mistakes in the past, but with sandals, especially high heel ones - those got very little wearing!

Fab quezzie! I’m intrigued by your challenge, Shiny.

Bravo Tanya. A good strategy.

My answer is: not one single item by the skin of my style teeth. We are currently having a heat wave (90+) and AT LAST my orphan dresses came out to play. I have also worn older Summer clothing multiple times. Some of that batch is still amongst my favourites.

I will admit I’ve made mistakes in the past –purchasing too many Summer items and shoes that don’t get enough wear. I learnt my lesson a few years ago. Seattle Summers are short and it takes a long time to heat up. Hence I have few hot weather clothes. I can’t wait to hear what others say. Hurry back Jennifer!

Very interesting question Shiny!

I have no summer items that I haven't worn yet that were bought this summer( other than tank tops), I was challenging myself to try to wear everything I got. But I do have a lot of items that I've worn only once And I have quite a few summer items from previous years that I haven't worn at all because I simply liked new stuff much better. I'll go trough them at the beginning of next spring and get rid of everything that i do not think I'll wear again.

This is slightly off the topic, but isn't the weather here absolutely awful this week? Rainy and cold. I have been wearing long pants whole week, and colors&styles that I'd call "early fall". I haven't planned to do that yet, at least not till mid September, I was hoping to have one more month of summery dressing. But the weather is not collaborating.

Oh, and I don't want to hijack this thread, but I did post all the measurements of those Lanky jeans on their thread. I know that you are probably not interested, but I felt bad returning them before you tell me so. So let me know what you think, otherwise I'll send them back on Monday.

I know most of us are focused on Fall fashions, but I got to thinking today about the coming weeks. Summer is officially over on Sept 22 I think. It will probably snow on halloween here in Boston, with all the weird weather we've been having... but I digress!

My question for the group - no matter what climate you are in - is this:

What is in your closet that is a truly summer-only item, that you have not yet worn? And why haven't you worn it yet?

(By truly summer, I mean items that can't be layered under a jacket or pressed into some other use in the fall.)

I have a lot of such items, and I'm thinking of challenging myself to see if I can wear each one at least once before summer ends. If I can't, then I'll have to do some hard thinking about whether they belong in my closet at all. And why I bought them in the first place.

In some cases, we've simply had such miserable rainy weather... other cases, the items are occasional wear that I think are safe from the cut. But then I have some items that I *could've* worn... but never did. Many in this camp includes clothes I loved in previous years but since YLF my tastes have changed; those are easy to edit out. But I also have things that I bought new, and it's too late to take them back.
