That's why I love the Stylebook App. I can group my daily recorded outfits/clothing items in any way I wanted or helpful -including the one you said. Lists can help, too-brilliant idea, just am more a visual person myself.

Star, good to know another list-maker!

I do remember Greyscale’s thread. I had one of my dad’s shirts for years, which probably fit that same qualification — one size too big from what would “fit” me in a men’s shirt. I think straighter figures have an easier time making these looks work — it’s really hard for me to get it right with big boobs and big hips, LOL. What looks cute and easy on other women looks…all wrong on me. Maybe I could pick up a cheap thrift store men’s shirt to try a side button addition as an experiment. It’s too iffy to spend much money on for me!

I think your all-blue ensemble sounds so cute!

Janet I have always been a list maker. At 12 years old I had a must have clothing shopping list! Supposedly to be funded by my meagre weekly pocket money - don't recall actually getting to buy anything off the list, but the list making was such fun :)
Did you see Grayscale's thread about oversized male shirts? She said she tends to buys a man's shirt in one size bigger than she needs. Actually I had a pale blue man's shirt in my early teens (my Dad was a shirts salesman for a while) that I loved to wear with my blue converse or navy clogs, and baby blue poor boy's cap and jeans - alot of blue LOL.

It’s a great idea! I tend to simply note these things in my mind, or act on them fairly quickly, but a written list is such a good idea (I am a compulsive list maker in other areas of my life!).

I love the idea of altering or adapting a men’s shirt. I keep seeing social media ads for one company who makes a shirt that buttons up the front like a typical men’s shirt and also has buttons on the side to wrap and cinch it, and I love the idea but they seem pretty expensive. I’d try it with one of my husbands castoffs if only he wasn’t a full foot taller and 70+ lbs larger than I am! It results in a comically oversized look more like a dress — not my goal, LOL!

I think it is brilliant that you are open to trying lots of styles to see what works. It could be interesting if you record what doesn't work/does work because you will see a pattern emerging that will help defining your style and will help with purchases going forward.

I am not a detail person but try to reflect on ideas about how my wardrobe or style is going. My latest is that I should try a style out and see if I like it and not to duplicate too much. The only stuff I really keep are inspiration pictures which I keep on pinterest or in a visual diary. I probably should keep a picture diary of what worked well...not sure where I would keep it.

This is a great idea Star. I have a small list in Notes on my phone called “Clothes to get”. It only had 4 items on it and I got 3 of them, although one thrifted item I think is a fail. It only cost $7 so if I donate it back not such a loss. Otherwise it is just constant looking at my clothing lists as I track my wears that helps me not to forget things.
I should probably have a “do not buy” list as well. I do try to take the clothing lists with me if I am going to a store for a serious look so I know what else I have that may be too similar to something that catches my eye. Since I am trying to overall reduce the size of my wardrobe not increase it!

It the same thing but I make shopping lists for things I see that I could use and what needs to be replaced. Right now I am wearing a pair of dressy flats in metallic silver and a bit of black. They will not last another season but I like them and wear them a lot. They need to be replaced with something that will serve the same purpose.

I also have a do not buy list. Anything made of polyester tops this list because it feels too hot on me for summer or even spring wear.

Sounds great.

I do something similar. At the end of each season, I review my closet and make notes in a book where I keep a lot of information and inspiration re my wardrobe and style.

In particular, I make notes of what I will need to acquire before NEXT summer, fall or whatever season is ending. This is very useful, as I keep much of my wardrobe in the attic and consequently on a daily basis only see items that are suitable for the present season. I often refer to the notes in my book, so I know well in advance what I'll need for future seasons and therefore can make a purchase if a special offer suddenly turns up.

Interesting! - so lots of us are like-minded and keeping some type of record (practically or mentally).
LaPed I tried DH's shirts briefly and I think the are going to work. So if the trend is still going strong next year let's rock their shirts!
Katerina Great idea about your DH's woolen suit waistcoats, I wish mine had some to borrow. I look forward to seeing your creations.
Jaileen You seriously do something similar with your veggie garden? :)
SF Yes I can relate. Besides taking notes when interviewing, I would do a summary immediately afterwards while fresh in my mind. I think that your interesting grouping packing away method seems more unique.
Sal My notes also include things like no more items because old habits die hard :)
Cat2 I get you. In a new season I am happy to realise I have some current trends already in my closet only to forget about wearing them! I think I will add these types of items to my list too as and when they pop up - good idea!
Nikki I store my fashiony stuff on OneDrive as well as my laptop.
Kaelyn Hello List Twin - high five!
Thanks Suz and Shevia and CardiffGirl for your input.

This reminds me of sitting down to rewrite lessons/in-class exercises immediately after I finished teaching, which was always much more effective than waiting until that point the next time I taught the course.

With clothing the way I tend to do it is by how I group things when I put them away.

I tend to do a single year-end review and brainstorm a list of style goals and clothing needs for the upcoming year, but I can see how doing a reflection at the end of each season could be helpful. By the time January rolls around I can barely remember what I was wearing in July, let alone what worked and what didn't. :)

Stealing ("borrowing") DH's unworn shirts is a great idea. I've been considering doing the same.

That is a good idea!
I don’t write lists, but I save a lot of pictures from fashion shows, magazines, and blogs etc. to remember an interesting outfit or colour combination to try to copy. Sometimes, I also take pictures of my own items grouped together to remember a combination and outfit selfies to remember for next time (also the failed ones to avoid :-)). Talking about DHs - I have dug out some of my hubby’s woolen suit waistcoats - he does not wear them any more - to try to style somehow to try the waistcoat trend…. I have not had the time yet, but it is on my fashion “to do list” in my head

I have started making a list like this, too! I recently purged all my clothes that no longer fit well due to weight loss and did a couple of outfit creation sessions to give me ideas about how to use some pieces I want to wear more. I'm also taking note of favorite outfits so I can remember to repeat them. I tend to fall into a jeans + top + jacket (if cold) rut after life gets busy, so I'm trying to be more mindful about dressing myself.

I don’t do this, but I do write out trends and colors in advance of the season when I see them pulled together in fashion publications, so I don’t forget to wear a color or shape I like when it is trending. It can be really annoying to get to the end of the season and realize you missed a chance to remix existing pieces with new ones and be on trend.

Tanya I also have this stuff rolling around in my head ha-ha. But because my winter is so darn long I tend to not remember quite a bit of it. I also pack my out of season clothes out of sight. I get excited to see certain items again forgetting that they were not so great with that specific piece!

This is an excellent idea, and I am sure it is going to be very helpful.

I do this kind of stuff in my head, without writing it down, but I should certainly start writing, as I may forget by the next year.

Hi All

So I have started a end of seasonal style tips list. In a nutshell I am making notes about anything regarding my style this spring/summer that worked, did not work, or what I would like to try in 2022. This may seem a bit too long term but I am going to store it away in my laptop until next year when I break out the Spring/summer clothes. I decided to share this when I read Kellygirl's thread Fickle Fall where she commented that it often takes her a while to get into her style groove at the beginning of a season. Well I have exactly the same story. And to make matters worse for me spring and fall are so short that I just feel like I am finding my groove and it is over.

So instead of re-wearing outfits that were just Meh the previous year (because I have forgotten they were Meh) I am making a list. Good outfits (ones that make me feel like me), Meh outfits/items, any other points eg: that sleeveless knit I had forgotten that was so great - remember to wear it in spring with a Tee under it (as recommended by KKards) and in Summer with a cami, those poly dresses that I thought were too warm for mid-summer and when I actually wore one remembered they had cool and soft linings that work in the heat (Duh, they worked in Africa!). Another example, I have been thinking about outfits with oversized mens shirts (ever since Greyscale posted one and looked fabulous in it) and I realised DH has quite a number that he is not wearing - cotton in shades of denim, cotton ones from India and beautiful colors - Hello these are sitting in the closet! So making notes to remember to try make outfits with those. And many more ideas that I won't bore you with further that will help me get a stylish result more early into the season.

Do any of you make this type of a list? Could it be helpful?
