Thanks Lisa, SF and AmyIsabella.

Thanks Bijou. That's a good suggestion about lightening up the jacket. I think I need some more light neutrals in my winter wardrobe. I realised last weekend I have 2 white tops. Then I go straight to darks (burgundy, ink, dark green and lots of black).

Thanks Lyn. I have taken up your suggestion and posted a floral collection

Both embroidered items are lovely but I can't stop staring at that jacket, what a great piece! I also really like how you mixed stripes with the flowers in that outfit too.

No wonder you have such great style when your 15 year old pieces are this lovely! I love both looks and think that the florals on your leather moto keep the jacket looking feminine despite the studs and hard edge shape. The juxtaposition of floral and hard edge is lovely. If I owned this jacket I would wear it with blush, greys and blues to pick up the colours in the flowers. I love your brown boots, they are the perfect bookend for your hair.

Wow, so fab over and over again! You can link to Angie's today post, your embroidery is also a floral, and I'm sure, instead of your long boots you could wear it with summer peep toe bootie-sandals, in summer, too !

Angie, thanks! I have tried it with a burgundy top. I wore it with black skirt, black boots and black tights. It was a bit too much black. Even though I like black (obviously!) the expanse of black plus the studs and zippers on the jacket just pushed the look too hard edge for me. Lighter bottoms, or even just lighter shoes/nude tights, should help I think. I will try jeans next. And I also have a green dress I can try it with

SL, thanks. I am so glad that you don't see Heidi. I am much more of a Pollyanna Your comment about the pattern of the skirt serving as a frame for blackness is far too existential for me to cope with on a Friday. I will ponder it tonight when I have had a glass of wine And you are right about burgundy and green - good memory!

Emily K, thanks. I never caught the US series of What Not To Wear, but I loved the British one. You are right about the pattern. The graphic nature gives it an urban look, but the embroidery gives it the folksy touch. You know, I also love fringe. I have this fringe bag that I love (and it's also graphic!). I have to restrain myself from going fringe crazy when fringe is around.

Thanks Dianna and Classically Casual.

Thanks Lisa. The jacket is a little farther outside my comfort zone than I thought too! I am not seeing anyone wearing anything similar. Although it was available in a local department store this winter and it sold out fast. I am sure I will figure it out.

Thanks Sally. My Bailey is from a trip to the US (2011) too. I haven't worn it much in the last couple of years but I couldn't resist trying the angled stripes with the floral. And I enjoyed wearing it again. You should try it with your jacket.

Thanks JG, BD, JAileen and Xtabay.

Sterling, hi! I have been only dabbling in the forum for the last few weeks. It is end of financial year here - a very busy time for me at work. I have to catch up on all these 30/30 posts Thanks for your comments.

You made me laugh with this comment --"I think I have a folk streak. But my urban side generally beats it into submission." I can see this about you. The pattern on the skirt, especially, is so graphic that I can see it appealing to a wide range of modern and urban tastes. Did you ever watch What Not To Wear? The episode with Tiffany? She has a fitted, black blazer with loooong fringe everywhere and Stacy and Clinton agree to let her keep it. "YOU like it because of the fringe--WE like it because of the shape," they say. I think this is the best type of eclecticism--when both sides can be satisfied completely by different elements in the same piece.

I really like the embroidered skirt- surprising myself as I say that. It really looks "authentic" and not trendy/try-hard. I've seen that jacket in person in stores here - I wouldn't have a hot clue how to style it either. But it's a little far outside my own comfort zone age-wise , so take that for what it is

These look terrific Brooklyn - how fun to have this older skirt and it is still fab on you, and still fits, a winner all around.

I have a Bailey 44 dress purchased in the US - they weren't really popular here but I have not worn mine for a while now. I haven't thought to wear mine with a jacket but my new black jacket might work perfectly!! I have always gone full bombshell!!

The floral moto is great. I love it with the dress and brown boots but would also wear with jeans or denim culottes or similar. I think bootcuts or slim jeans would both work. Or with a denim skirt and the same boots?

You look good in A line skirts. I get no Heidi vibe from this, no I do prefer the top embroidery covered #1, because in #2 the all embroidery makes me think of a frame - a frame that frames nothing but black - ok, could be contemporary art :)
The moto looks great on you, the florals do soften it, maybe it could be further softened paired with burgundy or green (colours you wear if I remember correctly).

I really like the skirt and wouldn't have though about Sweden or milkmaids if you hadn't brought it up.
I like your bold choices and how you're making florals work, even in the winter!

Thanks BC! I think that it is why I hung onto the skirt. It was so pretty I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it (trendy or not).

I love all of it! I've done my fair share of embroidery by hand, so you could say I really like it, no matter if it's in style or not.

I know that embroidery is (surprisingly!) polarising but I have always liked it. I think I have a folk streak. But my urban side generally beats it into submission.

Exhibit A:

I bought this A line embroidered velvet skirt about 15 years ago. It's a good quality cotton velvet and lined. I haven't worn it for some years but, as both embroidery and velvet are "back", I decided to resurrect it.

I remember when I bought this skirt I was concerned about the apron effect of the embroidery. A bit Swiss milkmaid I used to wear it with a long top to cover the top part of the pattern.

This time around I have decided not to worry about that! I wore it with a short top so that the embroidery shows. I am going full folk, folks! If I could, I would braid my hair around the crown of my head to complete the look.

Exhibit B:

This is the embroidered floral Moto jacket that I bought late last year. I am finding it more difficult to style than I expected. Most of the outfits that I have come up with have leant a little too hard edge for my liking. We are in the coldest part of our winter now, so I am wearing black opaque tights and black shoes a lot, and that doesn't help.

Anyhow, I was happier with this combination because the lighter boots and the stripes softened things (to my eye anyway). Plus... pattern mix! I am going to count it as a triple pattern mix because I wore a floral ring (last pic). I love finding new ways to wear floral.

The dress is an older Bailey 44 dress. I am sure many of you recognise it. I would buy another if they were still around. I wore it with a Zara knit top layered over the top for some added warmth and to de-bombshell it.

Your thoughts welcome
