I just discovered another pretty eyelet top at Anthro = https://www.anthropologie.com/.....all&a

It doesn't come in black, or I would nab it. White, a rich yellow, and aqua - and it is ON SALE.

Late to this, but as someone whose mother and sister love Chico’s I will say that, yup, ever once in a while I see something and think, wow, so good…but I will say that I generally find the cut and sizing not to work for me…

I do want to throw this shirt from the Gap into the mix (& I believe it comes in petite)
https://www.gap.com/browse/pro.....&ap=7

SW Ann - good to know about Chicos. I need to put my dislike of the merchandising and SE staff aside and keep checking in there!

Jules I totally get your comment about high summer being so short. The stores and sites have been chock full of sleeveless dresses, shorts and tanks for so long, but I have to resist stocking up because they don't get worn. Speaking just abou the US, I guess a lot of places have longer summers than we do here in NE, so they are aiming at those buyers. On the flip side I've started seeing small amounts of fall stuff in stores this past week :-)

I love eyelet and am enjoying all the pretty items in this thread! I used to buy something eyelet almost every summer and I’m always tempted. I love the variety of possible patterns. But my closet is overstuffed and our high summer is short, so I’m being very choosy. Blue Jay’s RW&CO shirt is a nice one!

In this time of difficulty finding "good retail"--Angie's advice rings in my head every day--"leave no retail stone unturned". I find things at Chicos, mostly tops, and some dresses. People are always surprised when they complement my top or dress and I say "chicos!"....I am often surprised, too!!

Chris987, this:

"there may be pieces in a store that are perfect for you even if the overall vibe is not".

YES!!! Here are some examples of precisely that:

The patterns from Spanish brand Desigual are generally not for me - black is front and centre, and I don't wear black. Yet I scored awesome jackets from them this year!!! Red and Green. Workhorses! (Finds #1 and #2)

Everlane's palette is generally not my preference. Muted and very neutral. But their jeans work really well for me! (Finds #3 and #4)

Athleta is not a place I buy items unless they are for yoga. Yet their navy bomber is perfect for Summer travel (Find #5)

The palette at All Saints is usually one that doesn't work with my style. Again, very black-based. Yet I found a perfect mesh top for my brown suit from the brand (Find #6)

Keeping an open mind about brands is a good way to go.

Angie, I definitely agree with leave no stone unturned, and after what I've heard here I will look more often at Chicos. I think there is another lesson I need to remember: "there may be pieces in a store that are perfect for you even if the overall vibe is not". As Laura said they do have both items that "run small" and true petite sizes. I think I've even seen small petite sections in the stores near me. Good info overall Laura! I didn't know they originated on Sanibel island ... no wonder they are into a lot of color :-)

Love this thread and so many pretty tops!

Here to say that yes, Chico's does petites. You can also see in some of their product descriptions where they'll note that a top runs petite, usually meaning it's shorter than their usual cuts. I love their t's which are very nice quality. Since they started on Sanibel Island, they have a resort vibe to their designs which works well where I live, They also do a beautiful job on their embroidered jeans. I have less luck with their dresses unless I can size down in a petite. Hope that is helpful to someone!

good luck cat2 I've had just one Maggy London dress and the quality was fabulous, even though it is polyester which is not your thing.

BlueJay that's a really nice shirt! The lace top I have has a similar breeze effect although it's tempered a little by the cami I prefer to wear under it.

Agreed Jaime!

Joy there seem to be as many white options as there are black so you should be able to find something.

That's great advice on Chicos, delurked. Wow ... "it does feel like they design for a much shorter woman overall" ...I know you are taller than me ... clearly I need to give them a look more often. I will acknowledge that my issues with them include their merchandizing (the stores are full of tunics, super bright colors, loud prints, and big bold jewelry ... all not my thing at all) and their SA's all seem to be in that old school mode of pushing the hard sell and telling you everything "looks really cute on you". Your pieces are not in that vibe at all!

Suntiger yes crochet is another similar vibe.

I've had luck with their pants, but Chicos tops run Really boxy.
Another option could be crochet. I was inspired by the recent accessory post, and picked up a similar looking (but light brown) crocheted sweater on Big Warehouse. Should be good for spring and fall.

Chris - I've had great luck with Chico's dresses (shift dresses have always worked for me), their Zenergy jackets, and some of their bracelets. I know they get a lot of side eye on this forum, and I can understand there is an overall "look" that I don't necessarily resonate with. But I do think there is a place for individual pieces into your wardrobe, and if the price point matches your needs, it may be worth a try. I'm pretty shocked at how much I own from them, once I put the finds below. I got a few of the bracelets from Poshmark, which I find a good place to shop from if you already know what you're looking for.

That said, I'm not sure why their tops rarely work for me. Though we have fairly opposite body types, so maybe they will fit you better. It does feel like they design for a much shorter woman overall.

And as Angie was talking about bling recently, I'm getting most of my bling from their bracelets right now.

Love that top Bluejay. It's a nice look.

Nice blue one Suz!

Hah Janet, it IS funny to hear you say "Chicos one is cute". I'm more classic than you but I too would not typically have spoken those words. Something about the Chicos vibe does not appeal to me but obviously never say never. Anthro is a good idea too. I have a lace short sleeved top in a peachy beige from last year that I get a lot of compliments on. One friend asked recently (jokingly) if I was channeling JLo with her see-through tops! (I had a cami underneath).

Oh, that Chicos one is cute! Now there’s a phrase I’ve never said before. A bit more classic but really nice — I suspect you could size up or down depending on the effect you’re after. The Allsaints is quite roomy! I could have gone down a size easily, but I got a US 8 but it’s all that was available and I liked the oversized fit and the SA reassured me that it looked quite intentional.

It seems there’s a lot of this style around, so I think your timing is good. If I see anything else promising, I’ll share it.

Maybe Anthro?

I have my eye on a blue one from Zara. I own an older lace top from J. Crew in cobalt but I only wear it in winter because of the fabrication and fit. It would feel too warm in summer and maybe scratchy.

I also found this one at TJMAxx (also at Nord Rack) with a knit body, puffy eyelet sleeves (not super puffy), and a knit sleeve cuff - it was a little too snug and long in the torso for me.

Ooh, I am also looking for a black eyelet short sleeved shirt and haven't found the right one yet. Maybe someone from Fab Nation will help me out. Ann Taylor has one that I like but the sleeves are very puffy and I already have broad shoulders, thank you. All Saints is very cool but too spendy for me. BR has a knit version: https://bananarepublic.gap.com.....ge-content Gap has a men's version that is a possibility. https://www.gap.com/browse/pro.....ge-content

I LOVE that AllSaints eyelet top Janet posted about, that she found after her meet-up with Angie. (Thanks for posting Janet!) I noticed some other fabbers liked it too. I thought I'd start a post about this so we can share possibilities.

I found a similar one at Chicos, with a lower price.

https://www.chicos.com/store/p.....?color=001

The chicos one comes in black AND white. It also is not really eyelet, it's a burnout style. Similar but not exactly the same. Maybe less edgy overall.

Short sleeved tops like this are unlikely to get a lot of wears for me since my summers are only 3 months long, so I'm more inclined to the Chicos one price-wise, but the AllSaints one has very cool ragged sleeve and body hems and embroidery where the Chicos one is much more basic. The AllSaints one looks more oversized than the Chicos but of course the fit depends on what size you order.

I personally want black, but a lot of these tops seem to come in both black and white

Has anyone found other good choices?
