Diane --

Well you set the bar VERY high for elegance so I'm blushing, thank you! I am RATE (for lurkers: stands for Rough Around the Edges at YLF) with hair, nails, and personality so I do try to balance it out. And yes, the new bag has a lot of "slouchy structure," and for a non-bag person I'm a little too excited about it, ha!

Lyn -- Thank you so much, you and I are a mutual admiration society. I have better luck searching "dresses" for items I feel are too short than for tunics -- have you tried that?

Three of them of then (#1-2), (#4), (#5) -- are actually hi-low hems but they're still a little short in front for me for work/everyday without an underlayer.

[Below is a photo I took after buying #5 last summer. BethAnn if you're still reading -- see I have the lighter footwear waiting for dry weather again!]

I've been wearing hi-low for decades and it's a good style for my legs so I'm ok with the overload. :)

Momo --

Thanks much; you and I definitely share similar tastes in prints from what I've seen. What can we say, we're brunettes who look better in curved shapes than geometrics! Glad to see you, Diane, and others like print #3 a lot, too.

AGirl -- Awww, thx lady. You know what a pain it can be to try to get photos when the days are short. Maybe you and I can both share a few more (hint hint) as it warms up? Though if I do that you YLFers will see how I may need an intervention when it comes to animal prints....

Love your tunics and PRINTS , and they certainly love you back! Noticed, they are all on the longer side, to the knee, and this is rare to find for me unfortunately! I love the layering over the pencil, and the sleeveless one looks charming over a long sleeve! Very creative!
Oh, and all these shades of blues/grey are your signature!
Very cohesive, very put together, very well done! Your posts are always delighting me!

You have such a lovely refined and elegant style, Vix, lovely to see you!. I'm loving your prints, particularly the animal one and the Art Nouveau inspired one (reminds me of Alfonse Mucha's work). The new bag looks gorgeously pliable and sleek too. I think it's great too, that your tunic's can do double duty as dresses, which must help you with getting plenty of wear through the seasons with your skill for layering.

Bijou --
I'm glad you like the bag! I've been "looking not-looking" for a multi-season weekend bag for several years but....I dislike cross-bodies but there's just something about hobos and buckets I love. Hopefully this will work out well!

Unfrumped --
I love layering, so thanks! Every so often it all goes to hell but I find it solves more problems than it creates.

Brooklyn --
Thanks! #3 and 4 feel the most simple/serene to me, which I love for warmer months.

Re if I have a mood board for my spring colors -- yes and no!

I don't know if you were born with the style gene (seems like it from what I see!) but I wasn't, sob. I only started learning to dress myself and wardrobe plan about 10 years ago.

This year I was kind of on auto-pilot since I wasn't starting from scratch. Did the closet audit, started looking at what was out there. My plan's template, tweaked for this year:

Simplify integration into my existing work/play capsule by sticking to variations within my color palette

Cherry-pick spring/summer color trends by focusing on cool-toned shades that I'm drawn to

Make my grey hair grow-out + transitional weather less of a PITA by expanding my collection of prints/patterns that mix dark and light colors

Add trends that appeal (obviously tunics and shirtdresses!)

Keep my three style personas happy enough by choosing items that could combine into Contrarian Classicist, Minimalist Magpie, and/or Persnickety Bohemian

xpost -- Angie -- Thanks much, I will take that! Sounds better than "Menopausal Madness" which is part of the selection's backstory.

Peri -- Thanks and right back at you. I'm glad to have been around more...don't want to miss whatever gorgeous colors you show!

Marble -- Thanks for the thumbs up on the prints! I'm really happy with these. They'll do til the deco fabrics from Downton Abbey show come my way. ;)

BonnieG -- Thank you! Will look forward to seeing your experimentation!

Smittie, Nancylee, LisaP, BethAnn, Ms Maven -- Thanks for supporting the tunics-over-item. It's very vintage Trinny (of Trinny and Susannah) but works well with my proportions -- and as Lisa P noted helps bridge the gap when it's too cold/wet for bare legs!

ps To my partner in blue-hued crime -- I do belts occasionally and carefully. Short waist/busty = danger zone. I hear you on the potential with the l/s animal print -- esp because it's a lot of print! And I do have tall grey boots but they're half suede so I only bring them out when dry. Soon!

I no longer think of animal prints as prints. They seem to go with everything a solid would, except for perhaps an overly flowery print and I'll bet someone like Ms Mary could make that work.

The dresses over pants look great--the dresses are just the right length to look proportional. I'm not a big print person except for scarves, but I think yours are a great selection. I like them all on you.

oooh! Vix post......yay!

You do tunic over trousers better than anyone I know. I loved those pairings. The lengths of the tunics (and your gams) allow you to wear them as dresses with equal success --- a real double win!

The first new tunic is a newer twist of the animal print trend --- and I love the mix of light/dark elements. The second reminds me of a salwar kameez --- very elegant and international in feel.

Your travel look in 5/6 is full of my favorite blue -- so I love it for that alone. I think you could pair it with lighter footwear, too, for a more summery look. As your fabulous grey finishing growing in, you would be a great candidate for light grey tall boots --- honestly, they would be smashing on you.

Also --- do you "do" belts. I think the tunic in #1 would lend itself to strong belting, too.

The dress-as-tunic is such a great idea, and it actually provides a solution to the what-do-I-wear-right-now question when the snow is pretty much gone , it's brighter out, but still too chilly to wear bare legs with dresses. I have something very similar to the dress you are wearing in #2 - bought late last summer and not worn yet. Wearing it over black tights or leggings and layering a black tank under it would be perfect right now! Anyways, I really enjoy your photo layout style here - nicely done !

Chiara and Jenanded --

Thank you! I feel very put together in them, though looking at the photos I worry a bit about being more "Chicos" than "chic" but oh well! I'm a total sucker for pretty and floaty, so thanks for that too, Jen.

Rachylou and Barbara Diane --

Thanks; I just couldn't get all Funny-Face-excited about New til I hit on uber-feminine, easy/breezy "somethings" to break up the monotony of my neutrals. I have that Persnickety Bohemian side that rears up now and again -- its version of a lab coat?

[RL -- I love the Pantone stuff. Equal parts "oooooh" and "hmmmm/but wait?"]

Hi YLFers --

Since I've been putting my .02 in on various planning and color thread, I had grand plans to share my attempts to create a spring capsule with you all. Enter lack of light (RAIN!) and time....

Having gotten a lot of use out of the 2 tunics in #5-6 last year, I decided to look for similar things I could layer as needed -- in prints with light/white to help tie in my grey grow-out.

Please imagine the shirtdresses and tunics swapped around and put over standard neutral black/grey work wear -- dresses, skirt, and pants

[TBD if I work up to a cropped pair of pants!]

I know prints are a love/hate thing, so no worries if you're on the "hate" side!

***

#1-2: large black/brown/white animal print shirtdress layered over black knit pencil skirt and wool sweater + new moss brown hobo (bought to mark a milestone and b/c I'm busting out of my go-to bag (in #5-6)

#3: Indulging my love of art nouveau-y prints and muted shades from my palette + grey pants + silk longjohns (top) for warmth

#4: Interrupted by a phone call! Small grey/black/white sleeveless shirtdress + grey wool sweater + grey pants (+ "sensible" chunky heels I've had for a few seasons)

#5-6: Prior share from my trip this fall -- tunics and fav old small bag!

#7-8: For fun -- Pantone Spring 2016 + how my usual spring/summer colors have fit in with past Pantone spring shades
