I am starting to finally look my age, but I have spent decades being confused for someone far younger, which you'd think would be nice, but is actually quite annoying and frustrating. I got mistaken as the nanny rather than the mom routinely. In business I got mistaken as less experienced than I actually was, based on initial impressions. I got carded not just at bars, but buying nicotine gum -- you have to be 16; I was friggin' FORTY.. and with my teens.. and the clerk still thought I was *younger* sister... this is happening less and less these days, as my skin/hair is finally catching up to my age. </p> <p>Needless to say, I'm VERY sensitive to this. I have made it a lifelong practice to try and dress my age. But when you are only 5' and size 14 jeans in the children's section of places like Old Navy work on you... well... you wind up with some of those in your closet. </p> <p>Which is the only reason my eye says "no" to the embellished jean idea -- it has nothing at all to do with trends.</p> <p>But then I see them on you, Mo, and I read this thread.. and I have to ask: why is this any different than the whole sequin trend? </p> <p>See, I like the white jeans on you because I can totally see doing that for a holiday type party.
