Peri..the cycling undies are from My Alibi....myalibiclothing.com. I do wear them under loose track pants. Just remembering that they were pricey though...maybe not a good solution for every day unless you wear undies inside them.

Thanks for all the advice. But wow, I really want to solve this without pads! Ask me the one great thing about menopause...the absolute only good thing about it. The one single plus in all the badness. Not having to wear panty liners. To go back to that seems really unfair!!!

Caro, that probably isn't supposed to be funny, but wow, it is. Yogurt in your britches?! I'm allergic to dairy, but probably not by contact. But don't you start smelling like spoiled milk after a few hours?

I think my first plan is to return to my doctor. My second plan is to try and find some nice looking soft knit pants that aren't skinny fit...as soon as it gets cool enough.

Thanks for the support and the company everyone.

Great advice here already about irritants & underwear I would also try a really mild soap too like olive oil soap or one made with goats milk.

I was on long-term antibiotics & then pain kiilers & ended up with all sorts of allergies & itches. Yoghurt REALLY helped me. It needs to be the plain sort with lactobacillus acidophilus - they are the good bacteria that help with any sort of infection. I would recommend washing the sore area & putting the yoghurt all around the vulva & into the vagina - it is messy but if it is going to work you will get instant relief. You should also see longer term benefits if you do this 3 or 4 times a day for a couple of days. Good luck :)

If I wear biking undies for a long period of time I get yeast infection issues, so be careful if your girls need to breathe... I have seem the cotton liners like Claire mentions in a local organic baby goods store here so you might find similar at a like minded botique in your area. I know that gramacci and royal robins are two gear companies which make gusseted pants which should like it might be a good starting place. sounds soooo frustrating sorry you are having to go through this

This sounds so painful and frustrating, Peri. I have no solutions, only commiseration. I like Traci's suggestion to analyze the articles of clothing that do not cause problems and back up from there, aiming for a more stylish but still comfortable version. It's a shame about dresses...hmm. The footwear issue is another obstacle. I keep thinking there must be some shoes other than gear shoes that would work. On the same "back up from what works" principle -- focusing on the details that MAKE it work and finding those details in the more fashionable article. Still, dresses in winter aren't great because you would need hose, which might cause more problems.

I have crotch issues from time to time, so I can relate! It helps to have higher rise jeans and I second the pad/panty liner solution. Disposable pads have a plastic cover which can exacerbate yeast problems though. You can buy (or make) 100% cotton pads for this purpose.

Many workout pants have a crotch gusset, which I imagine would be more comofrtable for you. Also, many lightweight pants have narrow seams that can "cut" into the body a bit. Thicker seams, or even better, lined pants might alleviate this a bit.

Jeanie, I would like the info on the bicycle undies. Never heard of that. Are they the level of padding of the shorts? That would look pretty awkward!

The pants that are okay are my baggy gym clothes. The pants I wore yesterday had the same level of bagginess but the gym clothes don't have a thick seam so maybe that's what I need to look for. I really want to hunt down some ponte pants when I get a free day.

I agree with the other ladies' wise advice. I also wanted to expand on Janet's point about irritants in underwear. I found out exactly this way that I am allergic or sensitive to oxy clean. (I know! Oxy clean! But actually if you google you find some accounts of babies getting irritated when their cloth diapers have been washed with it.) In my case it didn't cause pain, just itching (drier and more on the outside than with a yeast infection but similar itch level), but maybe something similar is exacerbating your previous condition. It apparently left enough residue on my underwear to be irritating. Nowhere else on my body got itchy even though I washed other clothes in it too. Rewashing all the underwear again with just my normal detergent (all free and clear) got rid of the problem. I get a similar itchy reaction if I use certain harsh soaps for more than a day or two (I think it builds up), and I'm also truly allergic to sarcosinates, which are used in many body washes and sulfate-free shampoos. In the last case, I get itchy all over, so if you had a strong allergy like that you'd probably know. Still, it's worth it to take a look at all cleaning products that are coming in contact with your body and underwear, especially if you've switched recently.
I hope your problem goes away soon! No fun at all.

Just brainstorming here.

Have you tried all different sorts and fabrications of underpants too? Maybe it's less about your pants and more what happens to the underpants under your pants when you sit?

Are there any pants that work? Like even loungewear? Not suggesting ;you wear loungewear all the time, but having a sense of what works at the extreme end may allow you to work backwards to something reasonable? If loungewear works I'd look at a pull on ponte pant or soft harem pants.

What about one of those donut pillows? Maybe it's a pressure issue when you sit? Does it still happen when you sit w/o pants on?

Have you tried going all the way past slouchy and into harem pants territory? Is there any way to work that into your style. Some of the soft cotton jersey harems look so comfy.

Ouch. No clues as to what the problem might be, just chiming in to say there's no need to be embarrassed! Might it be a cyst (swollen gland)? I know there are two glands named Bartholin and when you get a cyst there, I've been told it really, really hurts.

http://www.patient.co.uk/healt.....nd-abscess

It could be any other swollen gland. They might get hard, and then one day a sort of pimple appears, only it's not a pimple. And if rubbed, it does hurt.

Could it be a bladder infection? I get this way when I have a UTI. If it feels better after using Pyridium (you can get it over the counter, now), my guess would be it is some type of cystitis. The lower part of my urethra will get irritated if my urine is just a little bit off and pant hurt.

Laura...yes, I've been diagnosed with that...but for about 15 years. The pants problem is new.

Ironkurtain...yes to the undies! No commando here! It is internal. My theory is that now that something is irritated it has just decided to stay that way. But my doctor can't find what is irritated.

Sarah, I wish dresses were an option but as I've whined many times about my shoes, as bad as they look with pants, I could never wear a dress and the gym shoes I need for walking. Maybe with colder weather coming I can find some loose ponte type pants.
