unfrumped, I'm with you--I don't feel fab in typical navy. When I got some pieces at AT that were a blackened navy (what Angie is saying is ink blue) I did feel fab.

Sveta, WOW! Where did you find this? Cobalt is my favorite color of all time. But if it veers toward electric, I'm not sure I mind. There's a shade I think of as "royal but not cobalt"--don't know the technical difference--and it's not nearly as good.

Natalie's color is cobalt - dark blue with a lot of red in it - my favorite! What we often call cobalt is electric blue - lighter and brighter. Navy is a very dark blue and ink blue is almost black-blue.
See the picture: bottom row left to right:
navy
cobalt
ink blue
electric blue

It is interesting how important is such a subtle difference in a shade of blue. Cobalt is my best blue, followed by ink. Navy is OK but often too dull - and electric blue is too light and bright

I'm totally confused, so I'm with you.
I had thought ink blue was a bluer, richer blue than navy, so what do I know.

What I have learned though is to give up on names and just try to look at the color! I don't wear typical navy well either--it's not really enough of an improvement on black to make a big investment--but I'm finally learning that some blues may be good for me, after I've eschewed them for years. Brighter navy and medium denim-y blue can work and so I'm keeping a lookout for some of those as an alternative to black and even to gray.
More options!

Pesky blue. With my blue problems, could I even see the difference between navy and ink?

But if Angie tells me ink is blue/black and a form of navy, that would make a lot of sense to me. Although admittedly, I've been thinking of it more along the lines of what Natalie posted - esp. in the sense of it being a truer blue.

I notice Wikipedia has an entry for Navy blue but not Ink blue. InStyle also had a tear-out card on Ink a few months ago.

Most navies I run across lately are so dark, that it would be impossible for them to be any more darkened...they already are so close to black, so I was thinking that ink was definitely lighter, maybe closer to GP's swatch. FWIW I think that dark navy is really hard to pair with black. They are so close that it looks like I made a mistake dressing in the dark. I wish I could find more ink out there because I think it's much easier on my complexion, too!

Yes, this one is tricky. While the two names are certainly marketing-driven, I do think there is a shade of difference between the two. The colour above would be ink blue--the colour of the cap of a blue ball point pen. This is the colour that is so popular matched with black right now! Navy blue is darker, and can even be confused with black in dim light, so... I guess that's your answer! Good question and now we are all a bit wiser!
