I think they'd be pretty low key, but I'm influenced by Star Trek. We all need jumpers!

Hmm. A chance to design the future! I'd project into the future to design the costumes, based on the plot premise. And my projection would be... people will have really shoddy clothes in 140 years for a variety of reasons...

We saw it today too! I enjoyed the Mad Max in space vibe. The drab colors of LA were also typical post-apocalyptic to my eye. I like this look so I would not go nuts designing futuristic outfits that could turn out to look weirdly dated - at least for this kind of storyline.

Saw Elysium today and really enjoyed it (despite considerable violence factor). It is set in 2154 and I was struck by the fact that people in the film dressed basically the same way they do in 2013 (except maybe the materials are more futuristically engineered, but this is hard to appreciate on video). There was some interesting body modification but the outfits were not particularly space age.
If you were doing costumes for a movie set 140 years in the future, would you keep clothes low key or try to predict future (waaaay in the future) trends?
