Featherwitch, I’m so pleased that experience worked out for you. I haven’t yet purchased anything from the Renew website but I’m pleased with the idea. That dress is so cute and will look great with leggings. The scarf is lovely too.

ChrisM, I agree with your thoughts about EF fabrics. Particularly, I think the Tencel knits do not hold up,well. I’ve had lots of pilling issues. They also hold onto stains. The crepe or ponte knit pieces wear brilliantly though. And I have loved the silk knit pieces I have.

Staysfit , isn’t that curious, your experience with EF cotton? What a bummer. I haven’t tried their tanks in cotton, only silk, silk knit and linen knit, all of which hold up well.

Here is the scarf. (Please excuse the ironing board. It's way too hot to wear a scarf right now.)

I am pretty sure the dress was dry-cleaned before it arrived- it was professionally pressed. The buttons are all well sewed on, no loose threads, so in general, quality stuff. Unless you were inspecting it very closely, you wouldn't have seen them.

I think they also do some reconstruction, re-dyeing, etc out of items the are damaged.

Greyscale, info please on your magic smell removing product.

I have a renew item I bought at the EF outlet but it had another name then. I didn’t realize it was “pre-worn” until checkout. I find the outlet hit or miss, some favorites and sometimes nothing.

Glad you had such good success.

I’d been wondering if EF Renew items were ‘like new’ / refurbished or if it was more like the usual consignment experience. Sounds like the latter - thanks for sharing your experience! I swear by my magic odor-removing detergent for used clothing, since there’s so often that thrift store smell, or someone else’s perfume, or detergent scent that bothers me. But once I’ve washed things, good as new.

And it’s satisfying that the spots came out - maybe people figure if they’re passing the item along anyway, why go to the extra effort beyond just regular wash.

Anyway, I’m a big fan of second hand clothing, so I’m glad EF started this.

Great finds! I have several EF items, mostly knitwear but also footwear. Her colors and fabrics are great. I have to watch shapes and also not get sales goggles.

I’m glad you found some nice items. I find EF to be hit or miss, especially their cotton tanks and cami’s. I have some silk tank tops that are going on 4 years that see fairly regular use. My experience with EF cotton tanks and cami’s however, is that the straps start to stretch out after only a few washes and eventually fray even though I wash in cold water on a delicate cycle and hang dry by folding over a large rounded hanger so the straps are not stressed. I have better luck with tanks and cami’s from other brands. I haven’t been able to sort out why I have this problem when so many people rave about EF cotton?

I love it! I’m not familiar with EF Renew - I usually get my EF fix via eBay.

Sterling is right - her fabrics are lovely - I am a big fan of her silk and organic cotton. I have to watch the shapes, but that’s the same with anything. I avoid her viscose/rayon, but again, I avoid rayon across the board, so that’s not so different.

Nice find!

Two recent experiences with Eileen Fisher to report!

First, KnittingGene's post on the thread about EF silk tees lead me to Eileen Fisher Renew. I quick browse suggested I needed this silk plaid shirt dress and a shibori dyed scarf that I have been lusting after for awhile. They both arrived this week. While the items were laundered, they needed to be washed again. The scarf had a bit of a thrift store odor, and the dress had a few small stains that were very hard to notice. Both items washed nicely, the dress stood up to some gentle spot treatment, and were in fine condition otherwise. The savings were pretty good over new, so I am satisfied. Now to find a belt to add waist definition to the dress. It's a little short for my taste, so leggings or tights will be required! The plaid makes it more of a fall piece anyway.

Second, I was browsing at Nordstrom Rack this evening and found two EF camis. A red one was marked for less than $15-- nothing wrong with it, brand new. I even asked the Sales Associate if that was the right price- he told me yes, and I didn't argue. Mine now! Sometimes you get lucky...
