Keturah - I *adored* your WIW!!! Love love love! I'm really trying to get this look to work for me, which is one of the reasons I ordered these EF pants. But there's something goofy about my lower half that makes pants (all pants) problematic. It's not just short legs. I think it's that I really have no hips. You'd think that would work but the more pants like this that I try on, the more I am concluding some hips are needed to make them hang right. Or maybe it's not my hips, maybe it's waist to hip ratio (my waist is not slim).

Sorry Joy I have not yet gotten the hang of this collecting thing. Here is the link
http://www.eileenfisher.com/Ei.....awstring+S

They don't look like that on me though. Maybe it's my belly. I don't know. I do know they are insanely comfortable ... enough I don't care if I never wear them out of the house. If I adopted them as PJ bottoms and slept in them and lounged around, I'd be happy with this purchase. It's just that my mental space for "PJ's & loungewear" says... machine washable.

I do have niggling hunch that if they shrunk a bit in the wash they may fit better for wearing outside the house. They need to shrink lengthwise (all over) not width wise (that part is fine).

Usually I would start with the most conservative care and then become braver after I have some idea of how the fabric behaves.
That said, I agree that gentle cold cycle isn't much different from hand washing except if the spin cycle does a number. so what Joy said--mainly avoid the dryer heat.

If it were me, since we're talking about pants, I'd baby them and probably hand wash. I like babying my wool. But that's just me. Others may have better experience with EF wool.

As for wearing them out of the house... I took the plunge and wore men's sweatpants (styled as track pants) to work. I loved them, and that's saying a lot because I don't wear loungewear all that much. http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ts-to-work

If you're going to wash them on delicate, you may want to also put them in a lingerie bag as well. I've done that with a few of my hand wash things and and it seemed to help.

If you don't mind a tad shrinkage, I think you would be ok with cold water and delicate cycle. I would tumble them in the dryer on no heat to get rid of wrinkles, then hang them to dry. Can you collect them or provide a link?

I bought the Eileen Fisher Merino wool slouchy trousers. QUESTION: do they have to be hand washed or can you machine wash them on delicate cycle? And, can you toss them in the dryer?

Not sure I'd wear them out of the house... they feel like lounge wear. But Oh MY how comfy cozy & warm they are for lounge wear!!!

I am going to very likely keep them but just curious about the maintenance. It says on the tag to hand wash. Which is a lot of work for lounge wear.

I don't mind if they shrink a tad -- they are a little long and baggy (I got the PP).

I've always babied my merino sweaters but I toss my Smart Wool socks in the wash & dryer without batting an eye and they come out just fine.
