Thanks Stylefan. Fit is okay - it looks a bit tight in the photos, but it isn't like that IRL (at least I didn't think so), mmm, I'm having thoughts on this now....maybe not having the top button done up is going to be better. Tags are off now, so hey ho, I will need to work it out.

Thank you Skylurker, Tanya and Dianna. I was also thinking I can hide the bling a bit with a scarf when it is too much.

Thank you for the encouragement to have a go with the denim jacket. This one was delivered mid week and I am really pleased with it. It has enough stretch to have a snug fit on the arms, but just enough to not feel overly roomy. Went out for coffee early with DH and it was perfect for an easy Saturday morning. I should have taken a photo but it was just too early!

I am going to be interested to see how often I wear it. I am hoping that it becomes a weekend regular.

That one is super pretty. It looks much more fitted than a classic denim jacket. I think you will find a classic version eventually, and at a much lower price than the EF. But if you do see an EF in petite, it's worth trying!

I tend to wear my mid-wash distressed denim jacket in spring/ summer/ fall. I wear my white one in summer. And I wear my darker mixed media one (with leather sleeves) in late fall/ winter. That is purely personal though and also climate related for me.

Thank you Mijana, I think cropped or short will suit me best, but there are a lot of longer ones in the shops.

Thank you Inge, I liked the darker wash too.

Thank you Sterling. Coming to my waist would be important.

Thank you Skylurker. Really good point and that made me think twice about it. I like my waist to be defined.

Suz, thank you, yes, I think I am shorter, by about 10 cm (5'1").

Thank you Angie. I kind of thought it had potential, thank you Suzanne.

I went to the EF store today and they had none in stock, nor were going to get any. I saw what you mean Suzanne and Suz about the sizes. They seem quite roomy. Then with Skylurkers comment, I felt more uneasy and then with Suzanne's very sensible comment on the EF price, I was put off.

I have seen this one, which may not be at all right, but it has a waist, a bit of stretch in it, and I like the detailing at the neck. It is a small size, so I think will have a better chance of fitting.

It is a lighter colour, which may mean it is more spring and summer than darker denim. I have ordered, on line, with free returns. I will see how it goes and let you know. I am not sure I have the inclination to try on a lot of denim jackets in stores, and at least this way I can have a bit of a play and see what DH says and YLF say and then make a decision.

I am also mindful of the need to take a topper to holiday in Indonesia in 6 weeks time, and I am pretty bored with my ponchos - so this may just be good timing. May be not, we will see.

Sincere thank yous for your assistance, really helpful and very timely.

As a petite, I think one does have to try things on. Classic denim jackets, even though they have a similar look, have so many tiny variations in cut, fabric, and proportion. That said, I've had similar experiences to Suz--EF is too big for me, in fact even the petites don't fit me (I am a petite, short and short-waisted).

The other thing is, EF prices are a lot to pay for a classic denim jacket IMO. There are a zillion makers to choose from to get that general style. Unless a denim jacket comes in a really different silhouette or has really unusual details, I wouldn't pay a lot.

Like Suz, I have one from Old Navy, but in green. I think it was originally priced at something like $25? Less than $40 anyway, I'm pretty sure. It's of better quality than I expected at that price. I also have a blue one that I thrifted--another option, since there are decades of denim jackets out there already. Finally, I have one that has some unusual details and departs from the completely classic silhouette, so I didn't mind paying a little more for that one.

Oh--and none of mine were billed as cropped, but they work. They're not too long. The ones that are supposed to be longer than usual don't work on me though, I can say that.

To me, "clean lined" just means something has simple lines, an uncomplicated silhouette.

Ha! Cropped for me means it comes to my waist for sure...and then some! Sterling, the woes of being shorter and short waisted are not the same as the woes of being tall but we all face our fit challenges! Jane's problem is likely going to be that cropped may be too long for her.

I like the jacket a lot but it's all in the fit. I am about your height I think? (Around 163 to 165 cm) and for me, EF promises to be too big even in the smallest size, unless a petite size.

One of my denim jackets is from the children's section of Old Navy. One is from the Bay (a department store, store brand) and is billed as cropped. One is by Lucky and is a longer jacket (at least on me).

Clean lines probably means no distressing/ embroidery or extra seam or pocket detail beyond the classic denim jacket features.

I would welcome comments on the denim jacket below. I don't really know where to start on buying a denim jacket and haven't had one for many years.

This is cropped but I'm short, so I would think that is good.

It says it is clean lined - please do you know what this means?
