Nice editing process Nadya! I am dying to see that foxcroft top on someone though I'm going in Friday afternoon so hopefully they will have it so I can try. I used to be soooo bad about never returning anything. I have really changed my ways and easy returns is now at the top of my list as far as shopping options. It really gives you the ability to be more considerate of purchases in areas other than.. does this look good on me. I don't know why it's taken me so many years to figure that out.

Just wanted to add my kudos that you're so discerning about your shopping. None of us have unlimited space in our closet, so everything we add to it has to really earn its keep.

Great insights, Nadya. I also often cannot make decisions in th store and have to take things home to ponder and play with in peace.
I hope your NAS items you keep will be real workhorses for you!

These are fantastic insights Nadya and I think you should be applauded for really considering all your purchases so carefully. This is how we avoid closet orphans. And definitely try the Foxcroft shirt on again!

Nadya -- the same thing has happened to me. I've already created a return pile. After I hung everything in my closet and spent a few days looking at it with everything else I have, I've decided to return the teal Halogen knot sweater. It was the only teal thing I own, and I realized that I just don't like the color all that much. And while I like the sweater itself, it annoys me that it's so low which forces me to wear a cami under it. So far, those are the only 2 items under consideration for return.

Great insights! I also wear more pattern on my upper half and keep my bottom half very simple. For myself I tend to add pattern with my scarves and only recently started adding some patterened cardigans and sweaters.

That's some very smart and analytic thinking, Nadya! And paying great dividends already. Well done, you!

I think a great return policy really makes a difference to how satisfied a customer is with her purchases, finally --- that extra time for trial runs makes ALL the difference. Wish more stores understood this, especially in my neck of the woods.

I haven't been able to shop, so I've made myself a model in microsoft Excel, with a ranking and a price. That way I can balance the price against how much I want the item (in some cases I'm tempted to say "need" but that's not REALLY the case, is it?). Sometimes it might be better to buy 3 smaller items than one really expensive item, depending on how much you really will wear the expensive item versus the smaller items, you know?

Very smart! One thing I've learned here is that it helps me to take the garment home to ponder it rather than trying to make a decision right there in the store. Thank goodness for great return policies.

Great insights :)

The Foxcroft tencel denim shirt at the NAS is on my top picks list. Most of my clients bought it - some in both colours (blue and grey). It is heavenly in my book.

Loving your thought out honed style approach!

Great insights, Nadya. I'm like you with the tops -- I tend to have more basic bottoms, and let the "interest" come through printed, distinct tops. I'm trying to mix is up a little, but this is a go-too formula for me, too!

I bought more at the NAS preselect that I can keep, but had hit the wall and was tired so I bought a pile to bring home and contemplate. One of those items I've already posted about - the teal leather jacket. (Mine!)

It was a good exercise to prioritize the rest of my items. One thing I realized is that I wear the heck out of my more distinctive tops and wear my basic ones less often - so back goes at least one, and possibly both, of the v-neck sweaters. I think because my bottoms are pretty basic, I really find patterned or otherwise distinctive tops MORE versatile.

I also bought the Munro leopard slipper flats. I have good luck with Munros, and I've already gone worn out two pairs of leopard ballet flats so this seemed like a nice update. But when I thought about what I wanted to wear them with, I realized it was mostly skirts, or pants I've hemmed for 2"heel boots. So back they go, and in their place I ordered a pair of leopard pumps - that are cheaper :-).

Finally, like Abie, I'd been stalking a Foxcroft tencel denim look shirt that never went on sale. The NAS had a similar one so I snagged it. But I realized I was settling - this one has some style differences (sleeve length, pockets) that I just don't find as appealing. So while it was similar it was, also, settling. Back it goes.

As I said - this has all helped me be more focused in terms of what I really wear, where I get the most bang for my fashion budget. It wasn't on the things I'd assumed it was. Thanks, YLF, for all the lessons you've taught me that help me be more discerning now.
